Noa landed another Soul Judgment squarely on the Magic Eye.But after taking that hit again, the Magic Eye did not shriek like before. Instead, it let out a rattling chuckle.
“Little brat. At this point… you still think you can beat me into submission? What a joke.”
Noa retreated and touched down, her breathing slightly ragged.
She lowered her gaze to her palm. The entire hand was trembling faintly.
Those wide-area spells just now had burned through a huge amount of Primordial Force.
And she still had to divert part of what remained to resist chaotic power eating into her.
Which meant her Primordial Force was draining at an absurd speed.
Even Primordial Ascension was becoming hard to maintain.
At this rate, she would be forced out of Primordial Ascension in under two minutes.
And that was only the smallest problem.
Once Primordial Ascension collapsed, and once she lost the Primordial Force protecting her body, her flesh would be exposed to the chaotic power saturating the area.
At that point, the Magic Eye would still win this fight.
And the teachers and students of Saint Heath Academy would not escape disaster either.
The Magic Eye clearly saw her predicament.
“Oh? Looks like you’re almost empty.”
Noa clenched her hand, squeezing out what little Primordial Force she had left.
A white ripple expanded from her again, pushing outward.
“Shut up. Take this!”
She tried to gather power and fire Soul Judgment again.
But halfway through the buildup, she was forced to stop.
The seven-colored light scattered from her hand, and the protective aura around her body began to flicker unstably.
Noa stared at her palm, her vertical pupils trembling.
“Damn it…”
“Hahahaha! Too weak to even launch an attack now?”
The Magic Eye laughed loudly.
“What a reversal, little hero. But even though it’s already bad, I still have more bad news for you. Panic is also fuel for chaotic power. And right now, all of Saint Heath Academy is trapped in absolute panic. Meaning the chaotic power I released is spreading at an astonishing rate. So even if you had more power, it wouldn’t matter.”
Noa swept her eyes across the surroundings.
It was exactly as the Magic Eye said. That purple smoke multiplied like cancer after devouring a target.
“For example, if the chaotic power I release is ten, then after it corrodes a target, that ten becomes twenty, thirty, or even more. Heh… did you really think an upper-tier Void Sovereign would be so easy to force into a corner?”
The Magic Eye spoke coldly.
“From the beginning, my target was never Tucker. Not escaping. Not even how many people I could drag down with me. My target… was you, Noa. The moment your power runs dry, I’ll take your soul. And then I’ll kill the other soul inside you too, while it’s weak!”
Vile. Cunning. Using anything and everything it could.
The Magic Eye was right. This was the real it. This was how a Void Sovereign fought.
Its goal had been Noa all along, and for that, it had played everyone for fools.
“You disgusting eyeball… not a chance!”
Noa stepped forward. If magic would not work, she would use her body.
But the instant her right foot hit the ground, her body swayed violently, nearly collapsing.
When she stabilized, she realized the body formed by Primordial Ascension had already crumbled. Primordial Force scattered into specks of light and drifted away on the wind.
Her protective aura went completely dim, and the chaotic power immediately pressed in.
Seeing that, the Magic Eye’s laughter grew even more unrestrained.
“Ahahahaha! The all-powerful little hero turns into a frail little girl in the blink of an eye. Noa, without Primordial Force, are you really too scared to face me?”
The Magic Eye was wrong about one thing.
Noa formed Chidori in her hand and charged.
“Even without Primordial Force, I’m not that easy to put down! If you lose that special power and become nothing, then you never deserved it in the first place.”
Noa had always understood that.
She was not afraid to trade her life with a stronger enemy. Primordial Force was not her only weapon.
The courage to face the enemy, and the resolve to protect what she loved, mattered more than anything.
“Hmph. Pointless struggle.”
The Magic Eye swung its tentacles, sending them all at Noa.
Noa weaved and dodged.
When a thicker tentacle whipped in, she jumped, stepped onto it, then sprinted along it to close the distance.
The purple smoke had already begun seeping into her body, but it did not slow her down at all.
The cry of thunderbirds rang out. Chidori tore the air, snapped the tentacles surging toward her, and struck the Magic Eye head-on.
“Urgh! — Hiss…”
The Magic Eye stumbled back, grimacing.
“That hurt. Didn’t expect you to still be this strong without Primordial Force. But in the end… it’s just ordinary lightning magic. Compared to Primordial magic, it’s nowhere close!”
After landing the hit, Noa pulled back again.
Her breathing was even heavier now.
The cycle of shaping, circulating, and releasing Primordial Force had always been done together by her and the forebear within her.
So with Primordial Force depleted, it was not only the forebear who was weakened. Noa herself was running low on stamina and magic as well.
“I wonder if I can still activate Night Armor in this state…”
“No, kid.”
Her forebear’s voice came weakly. “Last time you used Night Armor against the mandrill, Primordial Ascension had reshaped your body to take the backlash for you. But if you use your original body now...”
“We don’t have a choice, Noa.”
Noa narrowed her eyes, staring at the Magic Eye, wrapped in purple smoke and tentacles.
“If this drags on, everyone in the academy dies. Chaotic power will spread outside. And then… it will be a catastrophe for the dragon race, for all of Samael.”
Her forebear fell silent for a moment, then spoke softly.
“No matter what happens, I’ll be with you, kid.”
A faint smile appeared on Noa’s icy face.
“Thank you, Noah.”
Noa forced out her last reserves. Scarlet lightning began crackling around her.
But in the next second, her vision went black, and the energy she had barely gathered scattered instantly.
She staggered in place twice before steadying herself, then dropped to one knee, pressing a hand to her forehead.
“W-what… is happening…”
“You still haven’t noticed, little brat? My chaotic power is already corroding your body.”
The Magic Eye sounded delighted.
“Without Primordial Force protecting you you’re just like those people who tried to fight me and failed. You can’t hurt me, and you’ll be corroded in return. In other words… you’re about to die.”
Noa clenched her fist, forcing herself upright. Her body swayed, weak and unsteady, but her gaze remained firm.
“Even if I die, I’ll still!”
“Second sister!!”
“Second sister!!”
“Moon! Hurry! Medical team!!”
Voices exploded in the distance: Aurora, Muse, and a crowd of teachers.
It hit Noa like a thunderbolt, freezing her in place.
There were no enemies here besides the Magic Eye and chaotic power.
So if Moon had been hurt, it could only be because chaotic power had corroded her.
Noa’s eyes widened. Her pupils shook violently.
Cold flooded her entire body, and even her heart seized hard once.
She staggered back a step, her eyes going blank as a tear slid down her cheek.
“Moon… Moon…”
“Kid! Pull yourself together!”
Her forebear’s shout snapped Noa awake.
Noa jerked back to herself. She did not spare the Magic Eye another glance.
She turned and plunged into the endless purple smoke, sprinting toward the cries she had just heard.
She arrived beneath a teaching building. People were gathered everywhere.
“Noa, it’s Noa…”
“Did she defeat the Magic Eye?”
“I don’t know…”
“Senior Noa, your sister...”
“Shh!!”
Noa shoved through the crowd until she reached the center.
In the corner were Aurora, Muse, Hefei, and several medics.
Noa ran over in a daze, pushed past the teachers, and finally saw her sister.
“Moon. What happened? Aurora, what happened?”
Aurora was panicking too, speaking so fast her words stumbled over each other.
“The chaotic power spread and multiplied again, covering the lower-year students. Second sister and I tried to help the teachers hold it back. At first we could barely manage, but it kept increasing, and second sister protected a junior.”
Aurora gripped Noa’s sleeve, lips pressed tight, her voice shaking.
“I-I don’t know… big sister, I’m sorry. I didn’t see the moment second sister got hurt. If I had...”
“It’s not your fault, Aurora.”
Noa’s voice suddenly turned calm. She patted Aurora’s hand, then took Muse’s hand as well.
“You were all amazing. Dad taught you right.”
“Big sister…”
“Big sister, you...”
Noa let go, leaned down beside Moon, and gently pressed her cheek against Moon’s icy face.
She said nothing. She stayed silent the whole time.
