Angel glanced at Dox lightly and said indifferently, "Do you really want to watch a show?"Dox chuckled without directly responding, but instead used the Mind Ribbon to say to Angel, "You wouldn’t kill him anyway, giving him a little punishment to let him see the dangers of the world wouldn’t be bad. If you can’t think of a punishment measure, I can help you."
Angel, however, did not use the Mind Ribbon to reply, he instead spoke directly, "This matter has little to do with him. I was just tricked by Esos."
This matter is related to Esos’s deliberate concealment, so to find the real culprit, you should find Esos. Besides, if you really want Kaier to pay, he can’t compensate with anything good, but Esos is different, he is absolutely a fat sheep, plucking some wool from him would be highly beneficial.
However, he cannot be the one to do it, a middleman must be found.
Ironclad Granny... or Lord Rhein?
While Angel was pondering how to gain some benefits from Esos, Kaier, slumped on the ground, brightened up upon hearing Angel’s words, feeling hopeful, and nodded quickly, "Yes, yes, I didn’t expect the decryption to be so tough. It’s the mentor, yes, it’s the mentor, the mentor is tricking you! You can seek justice from the mentor, I will definitely stand on your side!"
To show his sincerity, Kaier intentionally expressed a righteous indignation towards Esos.
Angel and Dox looked at Kaier with strange eyes simultaneously, not expecting this young man with a fair and clean appearance, seeming easy to handle, yet quite sly.
After Kaier pledged his loyalty, he looked at Angel with anticipation.
Angel coughed twice and said, "You have a point. You won’t need to pay for the potions or anything. However, even though this matter is not closely related to you, ultimately, in trying to decrypt this blueprint, I’ve exhausted a lot of mental capacity, and this blueprint is yours, so you hold some responsibility..."
Angel had not finished when Kaier seemed to understand something and promptly answered, "The profits from the exploration, I can give you ninety percent!"
Angel was a bit taken aback, not expecting Kaier to be so perceptive.
However, Angel did not care much about profits. He only wanted to know whether the wall, in reality, existed, whether the short sword could open it... and, whether the short sword had any effect on the wall in the Nightmare Realm.
"Focusing on profits already, you are too naive," Angel said lightly. "Whether it’s beneficial or harmful inside, it goes both ways. I don’t ask for profits, I only ask for one thing: if the door corresponding to the short sword is found, everything should be under my command. Even if in the end I tell you not to open that door, you must have no objection."
If the door is found, why not open it? Kaier wondered inwardly.
But looking at Angel’s solemn expression, Kaier could only nod, not daring to contradict, as he was just a small Apprentice, and actually a research-oriented type, to explore, he had to cling to Angel.
Seeing Kaier being so obedient, Angel gathered back his previous resentment, returning to sit at the table.
"Here is the blueprint, you can take a look first."
Kaier stood up, feeling his legs were less weak, and stepped forward to look at the unfolded Alchemy Blueprint.
Examining carefully for quite a while, Kaier couldn’t help but nod.
"What, did you find out anything?" Dox asked beside him, he hadn’t seen any clues, could Kaier have understood it? No wonder he is Esos’s disciple, claiming he hadn’t learned Magic Patterns, but actually should understand the Magic Pattern path.
Kaier deliberated for a moment, finally squeezing out a sentence: "It’s so beautiful!"
Angel, Dox: "..."
Dox: "What’s so beautiful?"
Kaier said with admiration, "This short sword is the most splendid I have ever seen, the Elemental Gemstone on it is like a dazzling sun, shedding golden light, and the red shards embedded on the blade elevate its beauty further!"
After listening to Kaier’s praise, Angel said silently, "Although your evaluation is quite layered, I still have to say, that it’s not an Elemental Gemstone, it’s a polished and waxed Nightmare Light Crystal, and the red shards on the blade are not red shards, but Magic Pattern nodes made from Illusion Spirit Diamonds."
After Angel finished, he quietly looked at Kaier.
Kaier awkwardly tugged at his mouth, not knowing what to say.
Misidentifying things is not the most embarrassing for Kaier. The most embarrassing part is, whether it’s the Nightmare Light Crystal or Illusion Spirit Diamond, they are all Space Series materials, and Kaier himself is a Space Series Apprentice, yet failed to recognize them, and babbled nonsense, that’s the most embarrassing.
Beside him, Dox was already clutching his stomach and bending over in laughter, though he hadn’t recognized that polished Nightmare Light Crystal either...
Looking at the embarrassed Kaier feeling mortified, Angel said calmly, "No matter how you feel now, it isn’t important. What you need to do now is to find the materials to refine the short sword."
"I carried some materials with me, including some rare ones, which you can use. However, there are still quite a number of materials missing, which you need to find."
After Angel finished speaking, he waved his hand lightly, and a pile of paper floated before him.
Without any action, without writing, words began to appear out of thin air on the pages.
One page wasn’t enough, it filled up three pages in total, before gently falling down, ending up in Kaier’s hands.
"What’s recorded on it are the materials required to refine the short sword. Those in black font are what I already have, you don’t need to purchase them; those marked in red font, you need to buy from outside."
Kaier looked down at the pages in his hands, each page dense with writing, each material’s amount precisely measured to the gram, and the usage marked... yet it still made Kaier’s scalp tingle.
"Sir, about these materials..."
Before Kaier could finish speaking, Angel already understood his meaning and nodded, "Yes, it’s all for you to be reimbursed. The reason it’s precise to the gram is to make it easier for you to calculate, no need to refer to auction prices, just the market average is fine."
Kaier felt a lump in his throat and his vision darkened slightly.
Under normal circumstances, Angel would only need to note down the missing materials, but he’s listed all the materials, the implication is clear. Kaier had a glimmer of hope, but now it seems he was too naive.
"What, are you not planning to refine it? Or do you want to find someone else to do it? Whatever decision you make is up to you. However, you can cancel the task, but you’ll have to explain to Lord Esos and also pay the task reward," Angel said when he saw Kaier taking too long to respond.
Kaier quickly shook his head, "No, no, I’m just going over the list."
After a long while, Kaier put down the list, took a deep breath, and said to Angel, "Sir, please wait a moment, I’ll go gather the materials now."
With that, Kaier walked out of the Earth Cavern like a warrior about to step onto the battlefield, his footsteps heavy.
It wasn’t until Kaier’s figure disappeared that Angel murmured to himself, "I didn’t expect I was wrong, his reserves are much more substantial than I imagined..."
"After all, he’s in the Space Series, high consumption but quick income. I heard Kaier was involved in repairing some of the deeper other-dimensional spaces in the Sandworm Market, otherwise, how could the Lawrence family allow him to monopolize such a large relic in the Earth Cavern? There’s a deeper exchange of interests there," Dox chimed in.
Speaking of rapid income, Alchemists are actually the quickest. Just look at Angel’s carefree demeanor, you can tell he’s well-off, with a Flying Boat so luxurious it’s enviable.
Even though the Space Series doesn’t earn as fast as Alchemy, they have their own money-making tricks, like setting up spatial extensions or spatial lockdowns for shops, and crafting one-time Spatial Capsules. These are big earners, so if you dig into Kaier’s savings, you’d probably find a gold mine.
On the other hand, Dox himself is truly impoverished. As a Wizard on the bloodline side, costs are high with no steady income. Occasionally visiting the Abyss can earn him some hard-earned money, but that environment is not somewhere you can stay long-term. It’s nowhere near as comfortable as Angel and Kaier who can earn money effortlessly.
Thinking of this, Dox felt pitiful. He was already destitute and had to sell some wine to live. When he finally got a chance to take advantage of the chaos in Guman for a quick score, Angel wouldn’t cooperate.
It’s hopeless.
While Dox wallowed in self-pity, Angel looked at him with a strange gaze, "Why are you still here?"
Angel had wanted to ask this before. Technically, after Angel began decrypting, Dox should have left, yet he and Kaier waited outside for over ten hours, which made Angel curious.
Is Dox just bored? Is this what they call "freedom" for a Wandering Wizard?
Dox: "Why can’t I be here?"
Angel looked at Dox silently for a few seconds, then nodded, "You’re right, you can be anywhere, it’s my mistake."
With that, Angel stopped paying attention to Dox and buried himself in studying the Alchemy Blueprint.
He had already looked over the short sword briefly. He could understand the Magic Pattern and the Magical Energy Array, but still couldn’t figure out why it could be used as a key.
Seeing Angel instantly absorbed back into the Alchemy Blueprint, Dox knocked on the table in frustration.
Angel looked up, "Something else?"
Dox: "Aren’t you curious as to why I stayed here?"
Angel: "Not curious. Whatever decision you make is possible. I’m used to it."
When Angel went to rescue Abulei, Dox had nothing to do with it, yet he tagged along under the pretense of leading the way, when in fact he was addicted to spectating. Such a person acts on a whim, and any decision is normal.
Seeing Angel about to bury himself again, Dox sighed, "You’re no fun, you used to enjoy watching the show too, why the sudden change?"
"I wasn’t spectating; I always have a purpose for everything I do."
"The Twelve Zodiac Palaces?"
"That was to train the Talented Ones."
"I don’t believe you," Dox replied, "Fine, I’ll just tell you then. Earlier outside I discussed with Kaier, if you’re going to explore the ruins, include me. I can be free labor, just some scraps will do, and Kaier agreed too."
Angel: "Oh."
"Just ’oh’? Aren’t you surprised?"
Angel couldn’t be bothered to respond. There was nothing surprising; he could already guess Dox couldn’t endure boredom and would find a way to get involved once he knew about it. He’d likely tell Kaier, Are you sure you want to explore with Angel alone? If something goes wrong, you won’t have anyone to help. Including me would balance Angel’s power, see how beneficial that is.
With Kaier’s character, he’d probably think Dox had a point. Letting him join was only natural, so Angel wasn’t surprised.
As for whether Dox joining was beneficial or not, Angel couldn’t say for sure, so he’d take it one step at a time.
"Not surprised, just hoping this time you won’t be so noisy, and preferably don’t act on your own."
