Chapter 212: Azakh-Turs Rage
Roots twisted and knotted in front of Seo-jin, hundreds of them writhing over one another like a nest of snakes. They grew so fast the eye struggled to follow, splitting, thickening, and knotting together as chunks of meat and green sap splattered across the floor.
He barely saw any of it. His mind was still stuck on the moment before.Broodlings could survive almost anything. He knew that. He had watched them crawl away from wounds that should have killed them a dozen times over and return later as if nothing had happened. But what he felt through the broodlink hadn't been injury.
The connection had simply vanished.
An explosion shook the clearing somewhere ahead.
His first born.
Some distant part of Seo-jin registered that Pain had tried to intercept the boss again and gotten launched for his trouble, but the thought barely lingered. The roots continued to writhe in front of him while the broodlink remained silent.
Snare was gone.
The realization settled deeper with every passing second.
The charging demon tore through the clearing toward him, shredding debris beneath its feet as it came. The flesh cavern shook around them, but everything felt strangely distant. Muted. Slow. The screaming roots, the shaking ground, the approaching bossnone of it seemed important anymore.
It was about to attack Seo-jin, then the demon stopped.
Its massive eye widened. For the first time since its birth, the creature looked genuinely terrified.
Violently, it threw itself backward. Its legs dug trenches through the flesh-covered floor before it launched away from Seo-jin entirely.
"WHY?!"
The Cradlebloom's voice exploded through the chamber.
"ATTACK! ATTACK! KILL! PROVE!"
"No!"
The answer ripped from the demons throat. Raw and terrified.
The flower screamed again.
"KILL! KILL! KILL!"
The demon shook its head violently.
"Quiet!"
Its body trembled.
Because in that brief instant, as it rushed toward Seo-jin, it had felt something. Some instinct buried deep inside its blood had seized hold of it and screamed a warning so loud it drowned out everything else.
If it completed that attack
It would have died.
Back at the center of the clearing, Seo-jin still hadn't moved.
Bloodlight drifted from his body in thin strands that rose from his skin like smoke. More followed. Then more. The air around him began to ripple, and the flesh beneath his feet trembled as a low crackling sound spread through the cavern.
His head remained lowered.
His breathing remained slow.
Steady.
The roots continued writhing in front of him. In his grips, Butcher's Wrath trembled. Across the clearing, the newly born demon stared without moving.
For the first time since entering the class quest, the battlefield had gone completely still.
Then Seo-jin slowly lifted his head.
"Pain, Panic...Snare..."
Soft at first, but rapidly growing louder, the wailing of what sounded like tormented souls began to swirl around him. The sound came from nowhere and everywhere at once, circling through the flesh cavern until it rattled in the bones.
A sound that paled to his voice.
Something had broke free. Unshackled. Standing now wasn't Seo-jin, he wasn't the Broodfather, he was Azakh-Tur. His words bled out like magma.
"My eyes...you took my eyes."
Dragging a hand down his face, Azakh-Tur's claws carved five bleeding lines through his skin. Blood ran between his fingers, but he didn't notice.
At that same moment, far outside the class quest, the rest of the brood was still dealing with the aftermath of the cultist battle when every one of them froze.
Hex. Bile. Widow. Tomb. Sim. Fang.
All of them felt it.
A pressure deep in their souls. Not fear or danger, something much worse. It felt like the world itself had begun to crack.
"ATTACK! KILL!"
The Cradlebloom's voice sounded shredded now. Every word came out more strained than the last as the cavern walls vibrated from the force of its screams. Chunks of flesh shook loose overhead and splattered onto the floor.
None of it seemed to affect the demon. Its eye remained locked on Seo-jin. Sweat steamed from its body. Its breathing had become ragged. Every muscle was drawn tight as if it were standing before a predator.
"You took him from me."
From Seo-jin's back, Tiamat and Bahamut slowly stretched outward. Bloodlight dripped from their mouths like saliva, splashing against the meat below as both serpents turned their gaze toward the boss.
Their eyes burned.
Then they roared.
"YOU TOOK WHAT'S MINE!!!"
Bloodlight detonated from his body as he threw his head back and roared. The sound shook the clearing, drowning out the Cradlebloom and everything else.
The flesh beneath his feet reacted instantly.
Exploding outward like a living tide, the meat covering the floor began to convulse. Bone spears punched through the surface. Rows of teeth forced themselves into existence. Guts burst free and dragged across the ground while wet growths swelled and ruptured one after another. The smell hit hardrot, blood, filth, and death flooding the air until breathing itself became unpleasant.
The cavern screamed. The floor screamed.
Everything screamed.
And in the span of a few heartbeats, the Maw had arrived.
Still caught between reason and instinct, the crab demon twitched uncontrollably. Trapped between fear and survival, unable to decide whether to fight or flee, it finally cracked. Its giant eye, bloodshot and wide, suddenly darkened to black. The golden veins running across its body followed suit, dimming as its muscles swelled beneath its shell.
"I am the true demon! I am superior! You do not frighten!"
One moment it was declaring its strength. The next, a shadow fell across its face.
Azakh-Tur was standing directly in front of it.
BOOM!
Before the demon could react, a foot buried itself in its chest. Air and blood burst from its mouth as the kick launched it backward like a rocket.
BOOM!
Still airborne, its path changed abruptly when Azakh-Tur caught up in a blur and drove another kick into its ribs. Chitin cracked. Flesh tore.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
Again and again, the demon pinballed across the cavern. It smashed through fallen root ribs, gouged trenches through the flesh-covered floor, and scattered chunks of meat with every impact until it finally came to a stop as though it had struck an iron wall.
Azakh-Tur had caught it.
One hand wrapped around the demon's throat.
Cracks echoed through the cavern as the muscles in its neck twisted and snapped beneath his grip.
"Does it hurt?"
The boss tried to strike back, but every attack was intercepted by the serpents. Fang and scale crashed against fist and claw in a blur of impacts. Poison spread from the punctures left by their bites, dark veins crawling through the demon's body like frost creeping across glass.
As the boss thrashed in his grip, somewhere beneath the fury and loss, a spark of realization began to flicker inside.
Seo-jin's arm bulged as he tightened his hold and lifted the demon higher.
"You are an imitation. A last-ditch attempt from a dying weed."
Then, with a violent twist, he hurled the boss. Its body shot upward, angled directly toward where Panic was waiting.
'Drop now.'
Still airborne, the crab demon had no way to alter its course. Wind roared past its body as it flew. It could only brace for impct, but it wasn't expecting to hit anything before the ground.
Panic had been instructed to climb and wait above the battlefield in the shadows until he received the signal. Originally, the plan had been simple. Surprise and blind the boss.
Now he could feel the Broodfather's rage pouring through the broodlink like a drug.
The plan had changed.
Blinding agony exploded through the demon's skull as claws and feet drove into its eye. Flesh tore. Chitin cracked. Screams ripped from the demon as Panic dropped and latched onto the massive eye mid-flight and started ripping.
"Pain!"
One shout from Seo-jin was all it took.
Fire flared, igniting the darkness, flames erupted across the broodling's body as he charged toward the demon's landing point. The boss hit first, its back slamming into a wall of meat hard enough to shake the cavern. Before it could draw a breath or reach for the broodling clawing at its face, another impact followed.
A crushing force hammered into it. Green blood splattered across the wall as Pain's horns punched deep into the demon's stomach.
Roaring, the boss lifted both arms to crush Pain, but two sharp impacts punched through its wrists and stopped the attack short.
The last thing it saw before Panic finished blinding it was the Broodfather standing directly in front of it. The serpents from Seo-jin's back had coiled around its arms, locking its wrists in place.
"I am going to kill you now, then I am going to finish off your mother. And once you're gone, I will forget about you. Your existence meant nothing. Think of that as you die."
As though the words had awakened something deep inside it, the crab demon's bloodlust erupted. The air trembled around its body. Still skewered on Pain's horns, the broodling grunted and dug his feet deeper into the flesh beneath him as the boss's strength surged.
"I refuse! I'll kill you!"
"Savage Feed."
As quickly as it appeared, the bloodlust vanished.
Pure terror took its place.
Blind and thrashing, it felt the broodling buried in its eye pull free. It felt the burning one tearing at its guts release its grip. More than anything, it felt the shadow of death closing over it.
Endless rows of teeth filled a giant black maw. The jaws opened wide enough to swallow it whole, then snapped shut with final, violent force.
"NNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
The clearing shook. The Cradlebloom's scream was so loud it drowned out the wet crack of Seo-jin's face chewing, then shifting back into place.
"HOW?! LOCKED! DENIED! TRICKS! LIES!"
The voice layered over itself until it became a wall of sound, accusations and questions crashing together from every direction.
Feeling the crab demon's essence settle inside him, Seo-jin focused on Butcher's Wrath, forcing the maces to stretch and thin until they returned to their original forms. Flesh shifted around the weapons as the familiar weight settled into his hands.
"You miscalculated. I'll admit you almost succeeded. It was my rage that brought clarity. You might have retained a part of yourself, enough that it allowed you to fuck around in my body, but underneath all your plans, you missed a fatal flaw."
Eyes glowing, bloodlight began gathering along the edges of his blades, casting sharp crimson reflections across the wet flesh around him.
"All of this is still mine. Even you."
With two lazy swipes, immense flashes of bloodlight tore free from Butcher's Wrath and slammed into the ceiling. Two more followed, carving through meat, roots, and bone until a massive section broke loose. The impact shook the cavern as it crashed to the floor below.
Sticking out from the fallen mass was an enormous purple flower.
The Cradlebloom.
"THIEF! MURDERER! DIE! DIE! DIE!"
As he walked across the pulsing hellscape, tumors and boils burst beneath his talons with wet pops. The air stank of blood, rot, and torn vegetation by the time he stopped before the enormous stalk.
"You should feel proud. You'll be the first thing I've had to kill twice."
"FILTH! INFERIOR! UNWANAAAHHH!!!"
With one hand, Seo-jin grabbed the stalk. Planting a foot into the slick flesh below, he ripped it free from the meat it clung to. Roots stretched taut and snapped one after another, spraying green blood across his arms and chest until the flower finally tore loose.
"DEAL! BARGAIN! TRUCE!"
A sickened sneer spread across Seo-jin's face, as though the meal he was about to eat had suddenly gone rotten.
"I don't bargain with trash."
The screams started again. Bite after bite, green ichor spraying across the fleshfields, the Broodfather tore into the plant and devoured it piece by piece.
Partway through, he felt a weight, a pressure he hadn't realized was there lift from his chest. A heartbeat later, it vanished completely. Whatever barrier the Cradlebloom had forced between him and the system had completely broken.
Along with the rush of familiarity came something else that made the final bite all the sweeter.
Something familiar pulsed through the broodlink.
Too bad his system panel demanded his attention first.
Flaring to life before him, the crimson screen brought a strange sense of calm. After everything that had happened, it was one he needed as his eyes moved across the golden script.

The panel vanished.
A moment passed...a few more, then still nothing happened.
"Huh? What"
BA-DUM!
His body pulsed.
This time no panel appeared, only a voice. It wasn't the system's. It felt ancient, rising from somewhere deep inside him. The voice shook his bones and sent a second pulse through his body.
'Azakh-Tur... Broodfather... Brood King!'
Seo-jin hit his knees. All feeling vanished from his limbs.
His vision, and his body, had filled with bloodlight.
His class advancement had started.
