Chapter 1207: Meeting again

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

A week later, the three departed, bidding farewell to Raven and the Lion’s Fang. They had helped the group settle in the aftermath of the great battle that led to the fall of the Ruler of Gluttony. Even now, they still struggled to fully grasp that such a feared being had truly been defeated.

"So... where are we heading?" Vashno asked.

"Mine Valley," Eztein replied.

"Mine Valley?!" Vashno and Doranjan exclaimed, eyes wide with surprise.

Eztein nodded. "The Dragon Council is still active, but it’s quite different from before. The heads who assisted us previously didn’t survive, so the structure of the Council has changed."

"I’ve been in contact with them for the past few months. They’re the ones who gathered information for me," Eztein explained.

"I see..." Vashno and Doranjan nodded, their expressions grave.

That battle in the past had nearly wiped them out.

They didn’t even know how many had survived. What they did know was that most of the people of Astros had fallen beneath the demons’ claws.

"I told them our boss is still alive," Eztein continued. "We just don’t know his exact location."

As for how he knew Souta was still alive, it was simple.

The parasites inside their bodies could still sense the presence of the queen and king parasites. If that presence ever disappeared, their upgraded parasites would react immediately, instinctively trying to ascend and become a queen or a king themselves.

But that hadn’t happened.

Which meant only one thing.

Souta was still alive.

A Captain-class parasite was on an entirely different level from an ordinary one. It possessed far greater stamina, granted a much stronger boost, and could store vastly more energy within its host.

Doranjan and Eztein had both upgraded their parasites to Captain-class. As for the tier above that, they had yet to reach it. Only Vashno had succeeded and he had named it a Commander-class parasite.

At that level, even severing his head or destroying his heart wouldn’t be enough to kill him.

However, the resources required for such an upgrade were immense.

This was also the reason Vashno was still stuck in the Seventh Shackle Realm. He was currently at the ninth enhancement. He could break through at any time, but he was determined to reach the tenth enhancement first.

"The Dragon Council, huh?" Vashno muttered.

All of Souta’s people knew that he was one of the Nine Heads of the Dragon Council.

It was an organization formed by Governor Ray, with Souta as one of its founding members. It had no single leader, each of the Nine Heads acted according to their own interests, yet still supported one another when it mattered.

Loose, yet strangely well-coordinated.

"What happened to them?" Doranjan asked. "Did they get hunted down?"

"A little, but not to the point of extermination. The Dragon Council no longer has a headquarters like before. They meet in secret now. As for the details... I don’t know much either," Eztein answered.

Souta was one of the Nine Heads of the Dragon Council, so the organization had inevitably been affected by the aftermath, especially since three of the Nine Heads had assisted him in that battle.

While they were flying, Doranjan suddenly stopped midair.

"Wait."

Vashno and Eztein paused and turned toward him.

Doranjan looked down. "Look. There’s a familiar face."

Following his line of sight, Vashno and Eztein surveyed the vast forest below. Amid the sea of trees, they spotted a lone figure lying beside a small pond.

"That’s..." Eztein’s eyebrows rose.

"What? Do you know her?" Vashno asked.

Eztein nodded and immediately descended. Doranjan and Vashno followed right after.

The three of them landed beside a small pond, their gazes settling on the unconscious, beautiful woman lying on the ground. A pair of wings extended from her back, clearly marking her as an angel.

"She named herself Esriel. Doranjan and I encountered her in the secret realm," Eztein explained.

Doranjan nodded in agreement. "I thought she had perished. I haven’t seen her since then."

They observed Esriel for a while longer, but there were still no signs of her waking up.

"So what should we do?" Vashno asked. "Wait until she wakes up, or wake her now?"

"Let’s just bring her with us," Eztein suggested. "We can ask her some questions once she wakes up."

The others agreed, and they carefully picked her up.

Their journey continued with one additional companion.

Soon, they left the land between the Angels and Fallen Angels. Esriel showed no signs of waking up, so they continued their journey.

Two days passed in the blink of an eye.

Eztein, Doranjan, and Vashno were now inside a room, with Esriel lying on the bed. All three of them were watching her in silence.

"Just who is she?" Vashno muttered.

Eztein and Doranjan remained silent. They knew very little about her; they had only encountered her in the secret realm.

A day earlier, while they were flying, Esriel had suddenly released a terrifying wave of energy.

It was overwhelmingly powerful.

"What’s your dream level?" Eztein asked, glancing at Vashno.

"[Dream Power II]," Vashno replied.

Eztein nodded and turned to Doranjan, asking the same question.

"[Dream Power II]," Doranjan answered.

Eztein sighed. "We all have the same dream power, yet none of us can see her dreams."

If it were any other individual, they would have been able to observe the person’s dreams and even manipulate them with their dream power. However, Esriel was different. Whenever they tried to peer into her dreams, it felt as though they were staring into a vast, empty void filled with nothing at all.

"Her level is entirely above ours," Doranjan said with a serious expression.

Eztein and Vashno nodded in agreement.

Esriel’s eyelids suddenly twitched. After a few seconds, her eyes slowly opened, focusing on the unfamiliar ceiling above her.

"Where am I...?" she muttered.

"You’re awake," a voice sounded beside her.

Esriel turned her head and saw three figures standing by the bed, all watching her. Still drowsy and unable to think clearly, she could only stare at them in silence.

After a moment, her memories caught up with her.

She abruptly sat up and asked, "What happened to the secret realm?"

"It was destroyed," Eztein replied. "The Ruler of Gluttony appeared and devastated the land. In the end, the Angels and Fallen Angels joined forces and successfully slew him."

"What?!" Esriel’s eyes widened in shock. "The Ruler of Gluttony... perished?!"

Eztein nodded.

Something inside Esriel shattered. She lowered her gaze and stared at her hands, the memories of what had happened to her in the secret realm flooding back.

Vashno and Doranjan stared at her, both realizing that something significant had happened to her. They remained silent, choosing not to ask any questions. There would be time for that later.

Soon after, Eztein, Doranjan, and Vashno left the room.

...

An hour later, the three of them returned.

"How is it? Do you remember what happened?" Eztein asked.

"I don’t know much," Esriel replied. "I think I encountered members of the Gluttony Army, and then I lost consciousness."

She deliberately omitted most of the details as it was far too confidential to reveal.

"So what do you plan to do now?" Vashno asked. "Eztein and Doranjan told me that the angels branded you a traitor."

Esriel raised her head and looked at him for a moment before shaking it slowly. "I don’t know."

"There’s also something else," Doranjan said, staring at her intently. "The burst of energy you released while sleeping wasn’t weak. In fact, it was overwhelmingly powerful. Who are you?"

"I’ll tell you the truth..." Esriel paused, lowering her gaze. After a moment, she continued, "Esriel is my real name, but I go by another name as well. Charla was the name I once used. I was once a General of a Dominion."

Eztein and Doranjan didn’t grasp the full significance of her words, but Vashno was different. Having spent time in the land between the Angel and Fallen Angel Factions, he naturally knew more about these two Holy Lands.

A General of a Dominion was a high-ranking figure in the Angel Faction, an incredibly prestigious position reserved only for those at the Tenth Shackle Realm.

A Tenth Shackle Realm expert.

No matter the faction, anyone at this level commanded immense authority.

"You...!!" Vashno stared at Esriel, his eyes wide with shock.

Observing their reactions, Esriel realized that only Vashno truly understood the weight of her revelation. Eztein and Doranjan looked confused, so Vashno explained the significance to them. Upon hearing it, their expressions mirrored Vashno’s shock.

"Then, how did those angels—" Eztein began, but Esriel interrupted him before he could finish.

"Those angels? Of course I could have escaped. I’m just waiting for the right opportunity. I didn’t expect you to step in and help me," Esriel said, a faint smile gracing her lips.

Eztein and Doranjan were left speechless. They had never imagined that the person before them was a powerhouse at the Tenth Shackle Realm.

It took several minutes before they could even begin to accept the truth.

"So... what are you planning to do?" Vashno asked.
