As the war and the various machinations of its participants continued, Rui remained immersed in his medical cocoon. He remained immersed in the metamorphosis that he had endeavored on, ensuring that the process went smoothly.Over the past year, he had carefully embedded evosapien stem cells across the less vital parts of his body in the various systems that composed it, ensuring that when his old cells died, half of them would be composed of new cells.
He had focused most of his efforts on his outer flesh, quite literally fleshing out the process and learning the ropes of integrating foreign flesh into an organ system like the epithelial system.
He could have accelerated the process and also embedded the evosapien stem cells across his body over the past year in the manifold, but he had already decided to err on the side of caution this time. It was a decision that paid off.
"So many complications."
It truly exceeded his expectations, even if the Eye of Prophecy had warned him of them.
Turned out that integrating different evosapien stem cells in a human body was not just complicated because of rejection from the human side of his flesh, but also rejection from the evosapien side of him. Something that was so simple and obvious in hindsight had somehow eluded him earlier. It should have been obvious that if his human side had issues accepting his evosapien side, then his evosapien side would naturally also have issues.
The evosapien stem cells he was integrating into his body were accustomed to being a part of a different body and different biochemistry, even if they were genetically compatible species.
The biggest problem that emerged was that his flesh began developing several autoimmune diseases spontaneously. Autoimmune diseases are essentially diseases where different systems of the body attack each other due to a malfunctioning biochemistry.
The evosapien stem cells were unfamiliar with several proteins in their homo antithesis physiology. This caused them to treat those proteins as foreign entities and begin adapting to those proteins spontaneously.
"I should have spent more time honing this out with the Divine Doctor."
Even though evosapiens were genetically compatible with homo martialus of the Panama Continent, it didn’t matter all that much because Rui was not homo martialus, he was homo antithesis, in accordance with the nomenclature that Mother Vyia of the dark elves had come up with.
He could still reproduce, but only because the most crucial part of his reproductive system had been left homo martialus. The rest of his body was homo antithesis, which was neither genetically compatible with homo martialus or homo evosapien.
This caused him to run into problem after problem in the very first year of his metamorphosis!
"Thank god I decided to go slow with this and experiment with my skin and outer flesh first."
If he had carelessly applied this process to his entire body, then all of his organs would have erupted in civil war. It would have been an autoimmune disease so extreme that perhaps not even the Divine Doctor would have been able to cure him.
Regardless, he was confronted with extremely niche microbiology and biochemistry problems that he simply was not qualified to deal with in an academic manner. This meant that all his knowledge was not able to help him find a solution to this problem that was rapidly causing his skin and flesh to war against each other in civil conflict due to incompatible proteins and amino acids.
It was extremely dangerous. Even though the skin and flesh were not the most vital or important organs compared to the heart, lungs, or brain, they were still highly significant to the sustenance of his life.
If he had failed to overcome them, he would undoubtedly die of mass cell death in his skin and flesh.
Thankfully, he had the Eye of Prophecy.
When juiced up with Megamind, he could exponentially accelerate a trial and error of various solutions, skimming through millions in a single session before arriving at an appropriate solution.
"Using quantum-gravitation tweezers to force the evosapien stem cells to adaptively evolve to be able to accept, parse, and metabolize the proteins of my species."
It wasn’t easy to do so when he was surrounded in a medical cocoon, but the medical cocoon was built for Martial Sages, meaning it deployed precious esoterics and some dwarven structural engineering to withstand Sage-level power.
Still, he needed to hold back, or else he would destroy the entire cocoon.
He generated the quantum tweezers within his body, relying on his Martial Soul to control his cells to generate the tweezers in between them to influence the genetically mutating nucleus, and cause it to change enough to be able to get rid of the biochemical incompatibilities.
There were so many such biochemical incompatibilities that it took him almost eighteen months immersed in the medical cocoon to iron each and every single one of them, so much so that he lost track of time when completely immersed within the medical cocoon.
But slowly and surely enough, he fixed each and every single acute and medium-term problem that he could detect with this method, overcoming the fundamental incompatibilities that he had underestimated.
His flesh became increasingly evosapien; Anthean evosapien.
It meant that it became increasingly transparent, revealing his internal organs within his body. The process freaked out the medical team, who were observing the changes within his body with the sensors spread across the surface of the medical cocoon.
By the time he had fully overcome all the problems and issues that came from incompatibilities and had fully acclimated to an evosapien skin and flesh, two years had passed.
They passed in the blink of an eye.
He had no watch. No indication of the passage of time in recurring periodic cycles like the day and night. Nothing. He could have kept an internal clock, but he didn’t want to put the pressure of time on himself at this moment.
Over the past two years, his schedule had been mostly sleep, then metamorphosize, then sleep, and then metamorphosize. He dedicated most of his waking time to the metamorphosis process.
