The combination of his newfound enlightenment and the Eye of Prophecy was extraordinarily potent. Together, they allowed him to straightforwardly find the solution that he was looking for without any problems. He didn’t even need to scour alternative ideas; both the enlightenment and the prophecy radically narrowed down his options until he had one or two solutions to all the genetic incompatibilities that arose. His growth in regards to mastery of life and mastery of biology had been so astronomical that he could deftly overcome any impediment, rapidly forging a brand new and anatomically different nervous system as his brain established direct connections with each and every single evosapien cell in every single organ in his entire body, save for extreme exceptions like blood.
It was rather ironic that what should have been the most complex and difficult system to replace thus far ended up being the easiest because of how much he had grown in the past fourteen years.
Within six months, he completed the entirety of the painstaking replacement process.
By the time he was done, his lived experience of the body had changed so much that he felt like a different person physically.
"It’s like I was reborn into a new body."
He knew because he had experienced just that ninety-two years in the past. If not for the other half of his body that was homo antithesis, he would have turned into an entirely new lifeform.
He momentarily paused, moving on to the perilous next step as he explored the new sensations of his body. His brain received messages from each and every single evosapien cell.
His sensory understanding of the world also rapidly evolved. It allowed him to perceive the world in ways that he couldn’t even have imagined before. It allowed him to perceive the world from the point of view of the cells that comprised his very existence.
"My body..." he murmured. "It’s a world of its own for each cell."
It was like the surface of a planet for them. They could not even fathom that they were part of something much, much larger than themselves. Each cell was only concerned about its immediate surroundings and its basic functions and metabolism. Now, they were simply getting in contact with HQ; Rui’s brain.
It was a truly fascinating perspective of the world. He realized that because life was complexity that prevailed, it was possible that there was more life to a person than they might have imagined.
"Does my body have conscious experience independent of my brain?"
It was possible. His body was composed of countless cells that interacted with each other chemically, creating an environment of sustained complexity. They acted differently to different chemical signals and could store information passed on to them, albeit in a very different way.
The notion that his body had its own conscious experience independent of his brain was a fascinating one. If true, it showed that there were still wellsprings of potential that neither he nor any other pathwalker had managed to explore.
Still, that was something to consider in the future.
"Now... for the final step."
The most lethal of them all.
Words could not describe just how absurdly lethal it was to replace half of one’s neurons and glial cells with evosapien neurons.
Over the past fourteen and a half years, he had created a predictive model of half of all neurons and glial cells in his brain. His mind palace, now as large as a supercontinent, was filled to the brim with predictive models on each and every single neuron in his brain.
Not just that, he had even saved the locations of each predictive model across the sets of neurons that contained the information of those memories. He had done this so that there was no chance of him destroying the predictive model of the neuron that he was going to replace when he destroyed that neuron.
In order to ensure that there were no overlaps of that fashion, he had saved the location data of each model. When replacing neurons, he would need to ensure that he wasn’t destroying the information on how to accurately replace them with identically functioning neurons.
The consequences of that would be disastrous, of course. In the worst-case scenario, he could end up losing his Martial Soul.
"My ability to use quantum gravitational tweezers is also limited inside the brain."
That hampered his speed a bit, but not too much since he didn’t dare to throttle through this process as if it were routine work. He intended to go neuron by neuron, no matter how much time that took.
He first rested a bit, falling asleep as he got used to his new body. He allowed his Mind and Soul to rest and recover from the consequences of the Realms of power before proceeding with the process without any further delay.
The first neuron was the scariest.
It had hundreds of connections.
He needed to ensure that the information of the predictive model was not contained within the neuron he was about to replace, after which he would slowly start to sever the neuron connections, before placing an evosapien stem cell within it.
The stem cell would automatically transform into a neuron, at most requiring some chemical prodding.
The moment it turned into a neuron, Rui would need to start manually forging the exact same bioelectrical and biochemical molecular bonds forged with the old neuron.
The evosapien neuron would need to act identically as the old neuron to all incoming signals or otherwise. Thus, Rui would need to refer to the predictive model each time, ensuring that the causality of the new neuron was equal to the predictive model.
He began.
He held his breath when he removed the first neuron.
Nothing changed in his consciousness or conscious experience.
He didn’t experience pain or any other changes.
One neuron was very small in the big picture.
"This can work."
His eyes sharpened as he decisively went through with the procedure, inserting the first evosapien neuron into his brain.
