Chapter 3833: Give Food

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

"Hey, give us food. We need food. Lots of food. In return, I shall make you immortal."

Rui sat at a conference table, gazing at Prime Minister Edward opposite him with a serious expression. The older man simply gazed at Rui with a hint of bemusement in his gray irises. "That’s not how heads of government negotiate with each other, you know? I’m not some common drug dealer selling weed here. Dignity is important for a ruler, remember that."

"Yes yes, very true," Rui replied half-heartedly. "Now, back to the food and immortality. I think it’s a very generous offer. You should accept it."

The prime minister simply shook his head with a dubious snort. "If you think you’re getting access to our food supplies that easily, I’m afraid you’re mistaken. Immortality is valuable. But I have no need for it. I have longevity potions galore. Not to mention..."

His tone dipped as his eyes grew solemn. "At my age, immortality is closer to a curse than a gift. Being the head of government is not a truly enviable position, not if you’ve actually experienced it. It is a taxing job that drains you day in and day out. You will soon understand."

"You can turn off the immortality whenever you want," Rui replied. "And it can make you younger too, something that longevity potions can’t do."

Prime Minister Edward raised an eyebrow. "That is indeed more attractive, but it’s not enough."

"Wars have been waged to gain an opportunity of even prolonged youth, you know?" Rui raised an eyebrow. "It’s very valuable."

"Yes, but not as valuable as food is to you at the moment," Prime Minister Edward remarked with an unmoved tone of voice. "I can do without eternal youth at the moment, can you say the same for food?"

Rui tutted. Just as Princess Ru had told him, Edward would not be easy to negotiate with. In the meeting with the cabinet of ministers and high-ranking government officials, Rui had managed to extract a promise that they would coronate him as emperor if he could secure extra food for the nation.

All he needed to do was convince this old man, but Edward was too sharp to miss how important this was to Rui personally, having already been aware of how important this was to the nation.

"Alright, spill it, what do you want?" Rui heaved a sigh.

"Double the negatron reserves we are getting at the moment permanently," Prime Minister Edward began with an unyielding tone.

"Permanently? You’ve lost your goddamn mind," Rui huffed with a dubious expression. "That’s highway robbery, and you know it."

"Good luck finding food elsewhere." Prime Minister Edward shrugged, standing up.

"We still have the dark elves, old man," Rui countered. "They’re the largest suppliers of food in the world, and they have a virtually limitless supply of everything. I would just rather solve this problem in-house within the Panama Continent before I run to other civilizations and continents. You get twenty percent more negatron matter for the timeframe that you supply us with food."

"Seventy-five percent more."

"Thirty percent more."

"Fifty percent more negatron matter for as long as we supply you food, that’s as low as I go," Prime Minister Edward’s voice grew resolute. "Anything more, and you’ll have to look your citizens in the eye and tell them that you allowed them to starve for a little bit because you were too greedy to part with a smidgeon of the already massive reserves of negatron matter you get every second of every day."

"Fine," Rui remarked. "Immortality and a fifty-percent bump in annual negatron matter supplies until we no longer need your food. In return, however, we want a surplus of high-quality food to comfortably feed an entire nation three meals a day. Let’s throw in the right to demand whatever food we desire at any point. Negatron matter is getting more ubiquitous, but it isn’t that cheap either."

"Hm, pushy, but you have a deal." Prime Minister Edward smiled with a satisfied expression.

"Great, since we can’t wait, can you just bring the Cornucopia here through a world bridge? It will save us both lots of logistical pains."

"The Cornucopia is our national treasure." Prime Minister Edward raised an eyebrow. "It’s not something that we can just let leave our nation that easily."

"You and I both know that absolutely nothing is going to happen to it." Rui shrugged lightly. "If I were the kind to try and use force to steal it, then I would have also subjugated this entire continent under my rule by now."

"Hmph... I suppose that’s true," Prime Minister Edward remarked as he sized Rui up with a once-over. "I don’t know whether to be happy or disappointed by your unwillingness to simply subjugate the weak."

Rui shrugged.

He didn’t care to hash out their ideological differences.

"Whatever. I’ll have an assistant bring two copies of the agreement. Let’s sign it right away. I want to handle this matter as soon as possible."

Soon enough, the two of them signed two copies of the agreement, before shaking hands over it.

"Open your mouth," Rui instructed the older prime minister as he cut his finger lightly with a nail. "Drink."

"Your blood gives people immortality? What are you? A unicorn?" His expression grew dubious as his eyes moved back and forth between the blood emerging from Rui’s finger and his face, as if wondering if he made a mistake.

But he ultimately followed through, drinking a drop of Rui’s blood.

"Alright, enjoy eternity," Rui waved him off unceremoniously.

"I don’t feel any different, and I’m certainly not younger."

"It takes time, but once the blood enters your bloodstream, it will undo DNA degeneration," Rui told him with a composed tone of voice. "You’ll see results over the next few months."

With that, he had fulfilled the condition given to him by the cabinet of ministers and the high-ranking government officials, acquiring a supply of food. They were bound to give him their support and coronate him as Emperor.

"Alright, time to get this show on the road."
