Amare sniffed, sleeping on their bed, determined to make sure Ria would ask her to whoosh next time. "I carried for nine months!" She complained to herself. "I'm the one who has a special bond with her, and yet…!"She formulated a plan to grow even closer to Ria than Rui, so that she could give him the smug grin that he shot at her last time. Much to her surprise, however, she sensed Rui teleporting to them before their long 'whoosh' session was over. WHOOSH
Rui returned to their royal chambers with a stunned expression, holding Ria close to his chest in both his arms. Amare immediately grew serious, narrowing her eyes. "What happened?! Is Ria alright?"
"Ria…" Rui spoke to his daughter with a stunned tone. "Tell mama what you said. Say it again!"
Ria tilted her head with a confusion, simply staring at her father before turning to Amare.
"We wand wader."
Amare's eyes flew wide open with shock. "We want water?"
"We wand wader." Ria pointed to a jug of water in the royal chambers. "Wader."
Rui and Amare turned towards each other with stunned expressions before exploding with pride.
"Ahhhh, our Ria is so intelligent and brilliant and adorable!" Amare exploded with pride and ecstasy, plucking Ria from Rui before showering her with kisses. "One moment my precious angel of brilliance, I'll give you a little bit of water!"
"She's truly our daughter." Rui nodded with a serious matter-of-fact expression. "Indeed, she has inherited our genius. To be able to utter an intentional sentence at the age of just eight months! If not genius, what can that possibly be?"
He suspected, of course, that the vibrations he permeated her with were also responsible for her accelerated cognitive development more than his genetics, but it was all the same, as far as he was concerned.
"By the way…"
Amare's tone was stern.
She directed a glare at Rui. "She said, 'We want water,' when she wanted to water. 'We' want water, why did she say 'we' instead of 'I?'"
Rui stiffened. "She picked that up from you," Amare growled. "Because you're constantly saying 'we' and 'us' and 'our!'" Rui averted his gaze silently.
"I will not have my daughter pick this up from you!" Amare cajoled him sternly. "From this day forth, you will go back to speaking normally! If people hear her say 'we,' they'll think she has been raised to be arrogant, condescending, and haughty, even though she's an angel from the heavens themselves!"
Rui winced. "Yes, but 'I', the brain consciousness, swore to the body-consciousness that 'I' would never again ignore its existence. Saying 'we' is a way for 'me' to acknowledge its existence even in our speech."
"I. Don't. Care." Her tone was unyielding. "Our daughter is picking up the wrong manner of speech from you. Tell your body-consciousness to suck it up, because our daughter is more important than it being acknowledged every time you speak."
Rui grimaced. "…Fine. I'll go back to speaking normally again."
"Good. Say 'I want water,' Ria. 'I want water.'"
"I…? Wand wader?"
"Yes! You're such a good girl! You're so smart! Yes, you are~"
Ria laughed, enjoying the praise that her mother smothered her with. Rui simply smiled with a satisfied expression, watching his wife and daughter coo with each other happily. The past eight months since Ria's birth have passed by in the blink of an eye, before he even realized it. He had been so drowned in his love for his daughter, wanting every moment to last as much as possible, that the very flow of time itself seemed to sadistically do the opposite and accelerate away.
Seconds seemed to pass faster when he held his daughter in his arms, as if her very presence warped the fabric of space and time. Altering the information dimension to make time pass faster. It made him more anxious about truly living in the moment, each moment he spent with her.
It also renewed his appreciation for the time he had.
Once he gained immortality, his value for time had all but begun to fade. Especially when all the mortal people he loved had already passed away. So what if years, or even decades, or centuries passed by? He had infinite time, essentially.
But then came Ria.
A singularity that warped his perspective of the world and turned it on its head. No longer was time as worthless as it used to be.
His daughter was growing fast, faster than normal babies did. It meant that he truly needed to cherish every passing second, for it would never return. Clearly, Amare had understood the same truth, choosing to appreciate each and every moment they spent with their daughter.
Sometimes they would cheat and slow down their perception of time itself so that they could enjoy each moment for longer. She would spend hours, and even days, holding Ria in her perspective when merely seconds and minutes would pass in the real world. But more than simple exposure, they wanted to spend as much time meaningfully bonding with her as they could with each passing moment. Rui and Amare were in a friendly competition for just that, spending as much time as they could bonding with her. They each had their advantages over the other. Rui couldn't always be with her when he was at work as the Emperor, while Amare needed to sleep and recover, something Rui had completely overruled the need for. Eventually, Ria herself grew exhausted, growing drowsy.
"Ah… does our precious angel want to sleep?" Amare smiled at her, placing her in her cradle, snugly wrapping her up in her little blankets. "Alright, baby, go to sleep."
She kissed Ria on the forehead even as droopy eyes closed, tired after all the excitement.
Amare heaved a breath, unable to even take her eyes from her daughter. She moved towards Rui as they held hands while she rested her head against his shoulder.
"She's growing up so fast," Amare murmured. "It feels as if I just take my eyes away from her, she'll become an adult."
Rui nodded. "That's exactly how I feel."
Amare turned towards him with a suggestive glance. "…Once that happens, we can have another baby."
Rui smiled at her mischievously. "That sounds fun."
