"We have just received the report from Commander Schoel that Phase I is complete, Madam President."In the command room aboard the Blood Arc, the voice of the fleet commander drew the attention of Arastia. She turned towards the report that Schoel had sent, before turning towards the data gathered from their sensors. "Is the report compatible with the empirical analysis of the terrestrial circumstances?"
"There is a small chance that the report is a little premature, given the degree of unknowns within the planet," an analyst replied clinically. "However, the reality is that while there may be unknowns that exist within Planet Amadeus III, we do not detect anything that is of a particularly great threat. And Commander Schoel has reported that his senses do not pick anything up that is particularly dangerous. He has transmitted the neural record of his senses, and it verifies as much. No spike in his cortex that indicates an instinctive alarm about danger, nor any empirical anomalies in his senses."
The mass proliferation of neural inlays had allowed for the hard problem of consciousness to largely be dismantled. As neural inlays could be used to transmit the data of the mind and experience itself. Allowing pathwalkers to monetize their sensory prowess in a way that could not be done before, allowing themselves to be turned into powerful living sensory combat units that could withstand a lot of punishment that sensory technology would not be capable of otherwise. The data suggested that there was nothing wrong. Pathwalkers could not detect that something was wrong. "In that case, proceed with Phase II," Arastia remarked with a simple nod. "We don't want to waste any time getting to the most important aspects of this mission. The virus must be eliminated as soon as possible."
That was why they needed to earn its approval by delivering a geological sample of the planet that would contain the deep-biosphere bacteria that composed the core body of the virus. The sooner they could destroy the virus within the infected world, the sooner they could succeed with what they had truly come to this planet in the first place.
The resources.
"Understood, Madam President. Commencing Phase II immediately. Preparing for the dispatch of the Cosmobuilder packages, oxygen sequestering systems, food packages, and the geological sampling units."
"Commencing orbital defensive formation."
The Blood Arc immediately shifted, drawing a little closer to the region of Planet Amadeus III, where the pathwalkers had settled and managed to carve out a region for themselves with a defensive perimeter.
The reality was that while the pathwalkers of Gaia had managed to create a terrestrial defensive formation, they were still vulnerable to orbital bombardment by hostile human forces. This was where the Blood Arc came in, implementing what had now become standard protocol in the frontier for operations surrounding ground invasions. Warships would occupy the region of space that was directly above the piece of the land that was occupied by the pathwalkers of the same group. They would implement a defensive protocol that would intercept all attacks from outer space with counter-offensive interception laser beams that would essentially deflect or clash with anything aimed at their pathwalkers.
This allowed pathwalkers on the ground to have some layer of defense against hostile human forces, ensuring that all parties partaking in the ground invasion of an exoplanet would not go scorched-earth every time their own pathwalkers were attacked, preventing the forces of human civilization from clashing within itself and weakening itself against any alien foes that could exist.
FSSSHHH...
Once the Blood Arc took its position in space to protect its pathwalkers, hatches on the warship opened to release the technological and logistical packages needed to form a makeshift temporary base and defend the geological sampling systems while they did their work. The warships gently dropped pods filled with the necessary materials towards the pathwalkers on the planet, allowing them to free fall towards the designated destination.
On the ground on Planet Amadeus III, Schoel narrowed his eyes as he spotted the incoming pods. "Protect them from the homoarachnoids! We can't allow them to get their webs on them!"
RUMBLE
The pathwalkers mobilized, immediately surging towards the skies to defend the incoming pods from the web fluids from the assault of the homoarachnoids from across the planet. Thankfully, because they had destroyed the homoarachnoids in their immediate vicinity, the number of homoarachnoids within range of the incoming pods was fewer than it would have otherwise been, making it easier for the pathwalkers on the ground to protect them.
"Let's go." Ria's amber eyes sparked with determination as she took off into the air, skywalking towards the pods that had already entered the exosphere of the planet. "Those pods contain our living quarters and our food. I'm not about to sleep on the alien blood-stained ground here and eat alien meat!"
That was a sentiment that many shared, of course. The pathwalkers fiercely emerged in defense of the Phase II packages that had been sent their way by the Blood Arc. A volley of web fluid shots emerged from across the horizon of Planet Amadeus as distant homoarachnoid colonies and groups seemed to divert their attention from the other human spaceships that hung around in orbit around Planet Amadeus III.
The creatures were intelligent enough to understand that prioritizing the presence of the outsiders in orbit compared to those who had already entered the planet was foolish and ill-advised, shifting their focus towards the outsiders attempting to establish a permanent foothold on their planet.
And yet, to their surprise, the outsiders prevailed. The human pathwalkers proved to be tremendously powerful in material conflict. The Martial Sages and the Martial Masters, and those of similar ranks among other pathwalkers, proved to be extremely able to stop all the attacks that the homoarachnoids inflicted on them.
They successfully got their hands on the packages that the Blood Arc had sent them, safely securing them before immediately commencing the rapid construction of a base that would allow them to fulfill all of their goals and ambitions.
It was the first massive blow dealt to the Homoarachnoids in the recent chapter of conflict that had commenced with the humans.
