Chapter 4491: The Web of War

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Far away from human civilization, an enormous number of webships converged upon a single point in the -o—o-o- System. The sheer quantity of ships was not the only eye-drawing part of the grand convergence. The quantity of webships that the arakai had chosen to deploy also boggled the mind.

The webships of the arakai were visibly different from the warships of human civilization. The biggest difference was the engineering paradigms. Each webship was a ton of components held together by processed arakai web, and covered up with even more protective web. It held the entire structure together and kept everything glued together.

The arakai had chosen to deploy one hundred webnoughts, nearly a thousand battle webships, more than a thousand webcarriers, and nearly ten thousand battle webcruisers, along with many more destroyers, cruisers, and smaller webships.

RUMBLE

The very web of space and time quivered under the extraordinary amount of firepower that was rapidly gathering into a formation unique to the arakai. Unlike human forces, the Arakai Web Civilization didn’t adopt a modular hierarchical taxonomy. There were no squads of ships that neatly fitted into fleets, that neatly fitted into armadas.

They adopted an integrated network taxonomy.

Their armies were structured like webs. There were no truly separate units, in that regard, although there were nodes and nexuses. The mighty webnoughts that stretched nearly thirty kilometers in length served as nexuses themselves. Each webnought was equipped with titanic guns and laser barrels that were several kilometers in length themselves, with enough power to render entire moons asunder.

Their structures were webbed with the finest webbings woven from the Divine Mothers themselves. It was almost impossible to destroy one of these mighty webships through ordinary destructive power.

They were surrounded by nearly ten battle webships, each of which was just shy of ten kilometers in length, that came with supermassive artillery capable of inflicting damage that was on par with that of senior Martial Sages.

Spreading outwards from the battle webships were numerous smaller webships, along with countless kinds of logistical and support webships. The arakai had nearly an endless number of webship classifications, each with their own specialized purpose, developed in a remarkably rich astronaval doctrine.

Human civilization’s foundation and accumulation was shallow in comparison to the thousands of ship classifications that the arakai had deemed fit to develop.

They all came together in a giant web of war.

But at the very center of that web was one distinct vessel that was the core of the entire army.

A webship that was so extraordinary that it beggared belief.

It stretched nearly a hundred kilometers in diameter, large enough to have its own field of gravity. What was shocking, however, was that the vessel was not shaped like the other webships.

It had a body from which six different appendages wrapped in arakai web stuck out, spreading many kilometers into space. Each appendage had several joints along its entire path, allowing the appendages to fold and reshape themselves.

As a whole, the entire vessel resembled a six-legged spider that stretched for a hundred kilometers in all directions!

This was a mothership.

It was the brain of the Web of War that the arakai had prepared, the ultimate commander that would not lose sight of the war despite having to manage millions of combat assets.

This one, in particular, was known as the Web Bringer.

Within the massive vessel, in its command room, sat a Divine Mother who had chosen to bravely partake in the war despite the risks that came with it against their particular enemy.

Divine Mother —o-o—o, a member of the War Faction and the leader of the -o-ooo- Cell, had ultimately accepted the responsibility of commanding the War of Web in the Arima III System.

She was a younger Divine Mother, but more fiery than most of her sisters. Her long, web hair lay spread across her body, while her web stinger curled above her in the air, pointing in the direction of her intense gaze. Her body was covered in a more vibrant golden fur, while her six spider eyes on her face blazed with determination. She rested in a web hammock at the core of the vast command center, overseeing hundreds of thousands of arakai.

However, —o-o—o wasn’t merely commanding; she was also fulfilling her duty as a Divine Mother. An aperture between her legs constantly secreted a sticky white fluid, each of which was composed of microscopic eggs, at a shocking rate, which naturally were funneled along automated systems that carried the eggs away to specialized incubation cultures.

They would become the future generation of arakai, blessed with her genes that would eventually give birth to the Divine Mothers of the future. She constantly consumed sustenance to fuel her rapid reproduction, never once taking her six eyes away from her rapidly mobilizing War of Web.

BZZZT

A projection emerged in front of her featuring a familiar and much older Divine Mother, with intense eyes that didn’t match her age.

It was Divine Mother ——oooo, the leader of her War Faction.

"Elder. Sister. ——oooo," —o-o—o greeted her elder sister with great respect and admiration.

Although they were technically sisters, the age gap between them was extremely great, so much so that the former was old enough to be the latter’s ancient ancestor. Yet, age did not matter in arakai society.

Only power, and only the power of webs did.

"Little. Sister," the leader of the War Faction began. "You. Have. Undertaken. Great. Pains. To. Avenge. Our. Fallen. Sisters... But. Do. Not. Grow. Arrogant... Our. Enemy. Is. An. Abnormally. Potent. Civilization. Led. By. A. Craft. Administrator. With. Great. Miracles. At. His. Disposal."

The older Divine Mother felt the need to temper her young sister’s mind. Even though the leader of the War Faction herself was extremely war-hungry, she was also worn with age and experience. She understood that simply trying to crush this new enemy with blind force would lead to failure.

—o-o—o sharpened her six eyes at those words. She didn’t like the deferring caution that her older sister showed to the heretic race that had killed three of their sisters, but she heeded her words nonetheless.

"I. Will. Take. Care... but. Their. Fates. Were. Sealed. The. Moment. They. Chose. To. Attack. US."
