The destruction that the sentinel army unleashed was considerable. The sentinels were a powerful race of humans descended from generations of breeding between the tekvores and giants. They were considered to be one of the most successful interracial hybrid species, compared to less successful hybrids. One of the starkest weaknesses of the giants, until recently, used to be their overwhelming hunger as a result of their path. They were among the strongest pathwalkers in terms of raw potential, but they were deeply bound by their mental afflictions, leading them to have the most primitive civilization of the six races, save for the minority of their population that was rational. This weakness had been negated by the rational mindset that tekvores would often develop, especially as they progressed with their technological integration. In contrast, the weakness of the tekvores was that they had a limited amount of volume within their normal-sized bodies within which they would have to figure out how to stuff a large number of components. This constraint was lifted with bodies that towered ten meters in height.
They obtained the best of both worlds while leaving out the worst, making for an extremely powerful breed of pathwalkers. So much so that they managed to spawn one of the most powerful pathwalkers alive.
"Behold my power." Sentinel Prime’s cybernetic eyes flared with a blindingly bright light as he thrust his fist forward, unleashing a tremendous amount of damage upon starboard of an interdiction vessel.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
A devastating explosion erupted in outer space, spreading outwards for several kilometers in end. Sentinel Prime emerged unscathed, gazing at the ruins of the vessel, before immediately pouncing on the other vessels around him.
He and his people had but one goal.
"We must destroy the interdiction force."
The interdiction force was the limiting factor when it came to how close a wormhole could be opened. The only dominant asymmetric advantage that the humans had was their pathwalkers. In order to get as many pathwalkers to destroy as many ships, they needed to be able to get as close as possible with as few losses as possible.
The interdiction force was the single most limiting factor in that regard. The leader knew that if they could destroy the interdiction force in its entirety, they would be able to deal with the rest of the invading army much more easily.
The sentinels behind him had already rushed to destroy the smaller vessels of the interdiction force while the top-ten pathwalker restricted himself to the heavyweight vessels.
BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM...!!!
The sentinels charged forward, their plasma propulsion systems thrusting them forth through outer space. The sentinels had especially adapted to combat in outer space because their bodies were equipped with propulsion systems that could be adapted to deal with spatial environments with much greater ease compared to other combat systems.
Sentinel Prime himself charged forth as the plasma engines on his back propelled him forward with great speed, allowing him to build up momentum. The biggest problem with space combat was that leverage was nonexistent, thereby limiting offense to the strength of one’s combat propulsion systems.
It was why the sentinels were especially equipped for this particular mission.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!
Sentinel Prime smoothly destroyed another vessel with a single fist laced with plasma, shifting his gaze to a capital interdiction ship that led a squadron of sub-capital ships. His cybernetic eyes fell on its shining hull, gathering data on the strange new substance that had gotten the admiralty in a panic.
His bright cybernetic eyes widened as he realized that it truly was a bunch of protons held together by a binding glue that was extremely powerful. The electromagnetic field it released was so great that it began fraying even some of the circuitry and photonics within his body.
"They say it is indestructible. Let us put that to the test."
He wasn’t supposed to attack the hull. He had been instructed to target components and hatches along the port and starboard of vessels that weren’t covered in prothanite. But he was curious to see if the tempered invintium in his fists, strengthening with electromagnetic field binding technology, could inflict damage on it.
Crackling with intense plasma, his fist struck the hull with tremendous power.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
His glowing cybernetic eyes widened with shock as the hull remained intact upon his blow. Even though he had struck with the power to crack a moon in half, the prothanite hull remained entirely intact. Not only had it remained intact, but it didn’t even budge upon the power that he had inflicted upon it.
CRACK CRACK CRACK...
He felt fractures spreading across his invintium knuckles, causing his expression to slacken with surprise. "Just how invincible is this substance?"
He started to understand just why the armadas he was a part of had failed to inflict any damage upon the enemy vessels. They were dealing with a foe whose foundation in space war was extremely powerful.
"Still, they have never fought against pathwalkers on this scale."
The sentinel army swarmed the interdiction vessels from the sides, avoiding the prothanite hull like they had been instructed.
Instead, they focused on the components that were, and couldn’t, be covered with prothanite.
"Attack the sensors!"
"Destroy that antenna!"
"Damage the interdiction apparatus!"
BOOOM BOOOM BOOOM BOOOM BOOOM!!!!!
Tens of thousands of sentinels swarmed the interdiction vessels from the side, progressively damaging and even destroying vessels with attack after attack.
At this rate, the interdiction force was doomed to be destroyed in the long run.
Alas, their enemies weren’t incompetent. Barely five minutes had passed since the sentinels began their assault upon the interdiction force, and the Web of War had already responded.
BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!!
A rain of laser beams drowned the sentinels with remarkable accuracy and precision.
"Argh!"
"Where is that coming from?!"
"We’re being attacked!"
BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!!
Sentinel Prime’s cybernetic eyes sharpened as a volley of laser beams harmlessly bounced off his tough body. In the distance, he spotted a fleet of small craft starfighters comprising interceptor jets that flew by the sentinels, unleashing a rain of light beams on them.
BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!!
