Rui’s mastery of the flow of power had reached truly extraordinary domains. He gracefully redirected the flow of his daughter’s power by exerting the right amount of force at the right moment, causing her attack to spiral out of control.Ria’s amber eyes lit up with amazement. Normally, she was the one who had the greatest mastery over power, but she got to experience what fighting her was like. Although causality was not the essence of his Martial Art, his phenomenological uniformity allowed him to vastly outstrip even someone who specialized in it.
Yet, Ria was not discouraged. Rather, she welcomed the challenge. Her father was someone she could safely go all out against without any concern. Silly as he could be with his over-affectionate parenting, his attainments as a Martial Artist were unparalleled in history.
That didn’t mean she intended to make it easy for him.
Her amber eyes flared with intensity as a single whisper escaped her.
"Spiraling Heart."
It was an unusual name for a technique. Yet, before Rui could even ask what it was for, he felt the world around him begin to spin a bit in his field of vision, a result of a destabilizing balance. She had applied a flash of torque to his body at the moment of contact in the previous attack, using it to push a set of dominoes that would cause him to fall. Ria exploited that moment to launch a powerful palm thrust to his solar plexus, trying to stun her father when he was off-balance.
Unfortunately for her, that was far from enough to take him down. Rather than deploying some of his more flashy advanced techniques, he chose to simply use the torque she had imparted to him to pirouette out of the way of her incoming attack, evading it with an elegant grace.
STEP
He landed two meters away from her, planting his feet firmly on the ground. But before he could even beckon his daughter with a playful taunt, she had already charged at him, arriving before him in the blink of an eye.
Her fists unfurled into loose palms that hooded like the head of a king cobra, her arms lashed out at her father like uncoiling vipers. Their trajectories were curved and complex, making them harder to predict and defend. The narrow edge of her thin fingers deceived her opponent into believing that the true threat of the attack was its piercing sharpness.
But that was a red herring.
She didn’t strike.
She pushed dominoes.
TAP
The edge of her finger struck his neck with a light tap. An attack that was wholly unfit for a Martial Sage, at least to an unwise eye.
BADUMP
Rui’s eyes lit up as he felt his heart slowing down.
She had struck the carotid sinus, the Vagus Nerve, in his neck that caused a vasovagal response, causing his heart to slow down through his autonomous nervous system. This shut down his Martial Heart and the Realms that depended on it for just a brief moment. Her opponent had a Martial Soul and a corporeal consciousness, however, so it would barely last a nanosecond, if even. She had merely used it to create an opening, which she lunged to seize with a lethal blow to his throat.
"Impressive," her father’s voice was enthused. Not the reaction she hoped for from an opponent she was trying to defeat, but not one that surprised her either. What followed, however, was something defied her understanding of reality.
WHOOSH
Her father disappeared from reality. Her attack struck empty air as she completely lost track of her father.
"Wha—!" She leaped back in surprise. Her father didn’t use his Martialverse against her, which undoubtedly meant that this was the product of a non-Transcendent technique. Her first instinct was that he had somehow teleported away, but teleportation was very conspicuous. It was applied wormholes, after all. Wormholes were easy to detect because of how they warped space and time in a very recognizable manner.
Yet, her extraordinary senses, which were what her Martial Body specialized in, hadn’t detected even a ripple in space and time.
Instead, it was as though he had walked out of reality.
’Did he use quantum tunneling?’ she couldn’t help but wonder. However, that didn’t seem likely either. She could detect the faintest quantum entropic anomalies when searching for the entropic vents of a manifold; not even quantum tunneling could escape her all-seeing eye.
Whatever he had done, it seemed as though it violated the law of causality, simply escaping reality like that. It felt like he had opened a door and walked out of the universe.
"Heh, so not even my adorable precious angel can see through hyperdimensional reality, hm?"
His voice came from behind her, causing her to launch herself away in an instant. But it was too late; her father’s hand grabbed the collar of her Martial attire, while his foot intercepted her ankle. With a single smooth motion, he executed a perfect judo flip, slamming her into the ground.
BOOM!!!
An impact that would have cratered a tectonic plate merely shook the ground as the energy was smoothly absorbed with cutting-edge energy absorption systems. Ria had barely managed to disperse the impact from his attack, still having yet to shake off the shock from how he managed to appear and disappear out of reality.
Still, maintaining contact with her was never a good idea. She grabbed his arm, activating her physiological causality techniques.
"Touch of Corruption."
She could cause heart attacks with a touch. As well as kidney failure and liver failure through chains of cause and effect that were sometimes a hundred layers deep. She could paralyze people, induce hypnotic trances, seal Realms, and even kill people, all with a single touch.
But Martial Corporeals possessed a tremendous amount of bodily control, and her father was on a whole other level even among them. He had reached a stage where even the differentiations between the Realms were increasingly less congruent with the state of his existence.
The Cartesian distinction between mind and body was simply no longer true for him. His Body, Heart, Mind, Soul, Corporeal Consciousness, and even the hyperdimensional extensions of his existence in the higher dimensions... they were all one.
It was more accurate to say that he had only two Realms of power.
His existence and his Martialverse.
Ria realized that she was not strong enough to take on either.
