It was not enough for the arche race to violate the taboos of the human race. They had gone ahead and violated the taboos of their own pan-racial galactic community as well!
According to the alien controller as well as Gloriana and a bunch of other experts, the archeshell construct turned out to be an unholy fusion between a human mech and an alien phase lord!
Such a reckless and unthinkable combination should have produced an unambiguous failure.
Yet the fact that it was able to stand before them and power its alien systems indicated that it possessed at least part of its intended functionality!
There was a huge range of possibilities between absolute failure and total success. Where this archeshell contraption fell into remained to be seen.
However, as long as its place did not veer too close to the former, then it could absolutely pose a significant threat to the Apocalypse Wardens!
"There is good news." The Saint Commander said. "The other boarding teams have progressed steadily through the blockades and remaining fixed defenses. The first to arrive will be able to enter the central hall within several minutes. However, I have ordered them to remain on standby and conduct other preparations just outside. They lack the firepower and defenses to fight against this new threat directly."
That was probably the best decision that she could make. Ordinary infantry troopers could not defeat an ordinary mech unless the latter was controlled by a moron.
That said, their situation was not completely hopeless.
Whatever monstrosity the arche had cooked up, it was currently confined within a single hall. It could not easily move away and snipe the human soldiers from afar without getting out first.
Even that may not be a wise decision as doing so would only make it vulnerable to the human mechs and warships floating outside.
In fact, no matter how strong this archeshell mech may be, many people doubted that it could defeat a single ace mech, let alone a superdimensional one like the First Sword Mark III.
What was the point of putting on this show?
The would-be arche god freely addressed everyone's doubts, as if he wanted to leave his mark behind in this galaxy.
"#$&$&$&@."
"MY ORDERS INSTRUCT ME TO DESTROY MY GOD VESSEL TO PREVENT ITS EXPOSURE. I MUST DISAPPOINT MY LORDS ABOVE, BECAUSE I DESPISE WELCOMING DEATH AS A MORTAL. IF I AM TO DIE TO YOUR HUMAN WEAPONS, THEN I SHALL DO SO AS THE CLOSEST FORM TO A GOD THAT I CAN MANAGE."
The crystalline 'mech' that was made up of hundreds of interlocking and partially fused archeshells gradually increased its emissions.
Its internal activity rose while its archeshells all shone brighter.
To multiple human observers, it was as if they beheld an alien and warped version of the Amaranto Mark III!
However, unlike the archemech that weaponized the power of light in a material fashion, the alien construct only glowed bright for other reasons such as aesthetics.
What was much more concerning was the fact that it also produced notable spatial activity!
This unholy machine partially possessed the traits of a phase lord, which made it all the more confounding.
Nobody knew how the arche had managed to do it! The best theory they came up with was that they haphazardly fused their traditional phase lord ascension ritual with a crude attempt at creating their own Carmine mech!
Such a crazy combination should have failed outright, yet due to unstable factors such as conducting a bloody sacrificial ritual, the aliens somehow lucked out and managed to produce a working device!
Now, it appeared that the alien leader had stalled long enough to gain a measure of control of his partially 'divine' form.
"#@$#$&@$."
"FAR TOO MANY OF MY BRETHREN LIVE AND DIE WITHOUT GETTING NOTICED BY THE RED OCEAN. THIS IS THE CURSE OF OUR RACE. I SHALL NOT FOLLOW THEM. WITNESS ME. BLEED FOR ME. REMEMBER ME. IF I CANNOT LIVE AS A GOD OF MY RACE, THEN I SHALL LIVE ON AS A GOD OF YOUR RACE."
Before anyone could figure out what he meant by that, the archeshell construct finally took action!
"He's fast!"
The bizarre alien construct violently vibrated before he began to run forward at a pace exceeding everyone's expectations!
Instead of blundering forward with slow and badly coordinated limbs, the large construct dropped to all fours and charged forward as if the alien leader was controlling his own body!
That was not all. Another factor that boosted his speed was the weak spatial warping effect that acted on his artificial form.
Though the warp bubble was not as large and strong as that created by a proper phase lord, it still made a significant difference, especially when fighting against a bunch of infantry troopers!
The alien arrived so quickly that only ten or so Apocalypse Wardens managed to evade to the sides in time.
As for the remainder, they reacted quickly enough, but their evasion speeds failed to bring them out of their adversary's trajectory in time!
CRUNCH!
The collisions produced loud impact noises as the unlucky Apocalypse Wardens got smacked by the enemy and uncontrollably flew into the air!
Their flight only lasted for a brief moment before they collectively collided against the closed gate to the rear.
Fortunately, due to their superdimensional armor, their armor remained mostly intact, though it had become minutely deformed due to being subjected to strong kinetic impacts.
"What is your status?!"
"We are still alive. The inertial dampeners failed to fully cover our bodies, but… aside from suffering bruises, we are still able to fight."
The Apocalypse Wardens might not be body cultivators, but they did not need to be when they mostly relied on their combat armor for protection.
The power of ultra-modern human technology and an obscenely high budget neatly compensated for the shortcomings of traditional qi cultivators.
As the stricken Apocalypse Wardens gathered their wits, their comrades did not remain idle. They all aimed their transphasic hyper armaments at the obvious target and opened fire!
Dozens of energy beams, energy bolts, kinetic rounds and even micromissiles struck the archeshell mech from multiple angles.
They initially struck the torso, only to see it withstand all of the attacks without suffering any meaningful damage.
The Apocalypse Wardens diverted their firepower to the joints and other probable weak points.
"Our attacks are hardly getting through! These archeshells are even tougher than the ones we have cracked before!"
The crew of the archecruiser had purposefully deshelled the remainder of their officer cadre in order to provide the alien machine with the strongest physical defense that they could manage under the circumstances.
Even so, the durability of these archeshells exceeded everyone's expectations by a considerable margin!
What was going on with this archeshell mech?!
As the resident expert in archetech, Gloriana felt frustrated by her inability to understand what the arche had made!
"This does not make any sense!" She shouted over the command channel! "According to the limited sensor readings and what we can estimate on the material composition of the officer archeshells, they should have shown signs of damage by this time. This degree of durability exceeds the level of high-quality transphasic hyper alloys typically used in the construction of RA first-class multipurpose mechs!"
"Do not forget about the spatial activity." Saint Commander Casella Ingvar reminded the female Senior. "Could that play a role in enhancing its durability? This is supposed to be a partially successful hybrid between an archemech and phase lord, correct?"
"That is an overly simplistic and deceptive description." Ves responded as the local expert on phase lords and spatial manipulation. "The machine possesses traits of a phase lord, but we have not quantified to what extent. From my limited observations so far, I can tentatively conclude that the construct is not larger than it looks. Its true body has not inflated, and its internal components are not shunted into extradimensional spaces. It also very clearly lacks a spatial barrier. What I am able to ascertain is that a moderately powerful spatial field is constantly acting on the structure of the archeshells. This strange field is acting on or maybe even resonating with the phasewater integrated into all of those high-quality shells. I speculate that this is the source behind the abnormal durability. There may be other unknown effects."
The good news was that the archeshell mech did not inherit the ability to enlarge its shape, thereby becoming a much bigger problem!
The bad news was that they were not dealing with a known quantity, but a radically new and different biomechanical construct with lots of mysteries!
The Apocalypse Wardens had never been trained to face such a mysterious enemy, but they did not give up or attempt to flee.
They stood their ground and fought, not because they thought that their adversary was weak, but because they believed in their own strength and training.
After the opening attacks, they quickly adapted to the circumstances and began to split up to prevent too many of their number from getting attacked all at once.
The archeshell mech noticed the changes and simply chose to respond by focusing its aggression on a random pair of Apocalypse Wardens!
This time, the alien monstrosity did not charge at full speed. It deliberately controlled its rate of advancement so that it would not overshoot by the time it caught up with its targets.
The creature then utilized its most primitive method of attack by stomping down on its forelimbs!
"@$&$!"
"DIE YOU SHELL-LESS BEINGS!"
One of the Apolapse Wardens managed to jump away in time to miss the giant crystal limb.
The other only managed to get halfway out! Before the lower side of his armored form could get clear, the enemy's limb had already arrived!
This time, the impact was too strong!
The archeshell mech had deliberately put its own weight behind this blow, thereby causing the superdimensional combat armor to finally succumb to an extent!
The Apocalypse Warden suffered massive damage, and all of his augmentations and cultivation attainments could not save him from the agony of feeling his legs getting pulverized!
The other soldiers frantically tried to relieve their injured comrade by opening fire or charging forward with their superdimensional hammers, but their responses were not fast enough to save their unlucky comrade!
CRUNCH!
This time, another crushing limb cracked and partially flattened the upper side of the trapped soldier's body, thereby causing the squad of elite cultivator soldiers to suffer its first real loss!
"BRING DOWN THE HAMMER!" Their officer called!
Even as splotches of red human blood stained the undersides of the archeshell mech's forelimbs, the Apocalypse Wardens simultaneously gave up on their attacks and charged forward while raising their superdimensional hammers!
They collectively sent their companion spirits into their hammers. This heated them up before they combined forced to project a giant hammer made out of flaming energies yet again!
The giant flame hammer only floated above everyone's heads for a moment in order to absorb a sufficient amount of energy.
Though the Apocalypse Wardens would have preferred to pump more energy into this extraordinary form, they lacked the time, skill and comprehension to do so efficiently enough.
"DEATH BEFORE RUINATION!"
"RUINATION BEFORE DEATH!"
With these twin cries, the flaming hammer of doom descended onto the archeshell mech!
The would-be native god responded by assuming a very typical defensive posture for his race.
The archeshell mech remained on all fours but retracted its head and limbs into its thick and hardened shell as much as possible!
The giant oval shell composed of dozens of high-quality archeshells proceeded to shine brightly as the spatial field concentrated its power into them. Other energies also diverted to the upper shells, thereby producing additional effects that the sensor systems systems on site could not fully register!
BOOOM!
The loud impact and fiery explosion echoed throughout the entire hall!
The surviving Apocalypse Wardens briefly took a brief. They had invested a considerable amount of energy into that last attack.
Yet as the dust and fireball settled, the archeshell mech came into view once again.
Aside from scorching the surface of its upper curve, the alien super construct remained undamaged!
This was the first time the Apocalypse Wardens witnessed an enemy withstanding the power of their extraordinary combination strike!
