Chapter 7490 Mastering Her Fears

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

"I have spoken to the other saints of the Larkinson Clan about the benefits of coming into contact with key resonating exotics." Saint Isobel Kotin said as she began to pace around the study room with her hands behind her back. "They all told me that those resonating exotics grant more than a strange new application of power. They can change the way you fight on a more fundamental level. This is what I am aiming for. It is not enough for me to resonate with Triton-Remose-B to a superficial degree. I want to master the power of fear and eventually become so familiar with it that I can generate it without relying on material assistance."

That was an ambitious goal.

Ves looked somewhat approving. "It is not unheard of for high-ranking mech pilots to master resonating abilities to such a degree that they can channel it and other related techniques without needing the resonating materials anymore. However, this requires a serious commitment. You not only need to comprehend the concept of fear at least as well as the concept of fire, but also incorporate it into your soul. This is not only difficult, but dangerous. You will change in ways that you may not be able to accept."

Isobel maintained a determined expression. "Whether I like it or not, as long as it is necessary, I will see this through to the end. I need this, Ves. Not just because I want to weaponize the power of fear, but also because I want to conquer my own fears. I am still afraid, have I told you that? When I burned my own body in order to force a breakthrough, I almost did not go through with it due to my fears and apprehension. That… baptism of fire has left a very deep mark in me. I still hold an aversion towards fire. A part of me is afraid of piloting the Promethea Mark II for the first time. Since you are turning it into a 'Bloodfire mech', I can only form a connection by pushing pure hot fire energy into my body. I fear… that I may not be able to bear the incredible heat again."

"Be confident, Isobel. Forming a Bloodfire Pact will be painful, especially if you want to do so with a mech as powerful as the Promethea Mark II, but she is a machine that is tailor-made to your needs and capabilities. We are doing our best to make her latest iteration as strong as possible without accidentally overwhelming you. Your near-complete cybernetic conversion has already turned you into one of the most fire and heat-resistant individuals in the Red Ocean. The intensity of fire energy circulating through your augmented body will not be able to hurt you too much, especially if you limit the intensity of your combat actions."

Isobel's footsteps briefly halted. "That is unacceptable, Ves. I did not step forward in the path to godhood just to fight with one of my hands tied behind my back. Only absolute power can overcome great resistance. I never want to fight while limiting the spread and heat of my flames. Only by fighting at my best will I be able to earn my qualifications to become a god pilot. One of the more useful lessons that I have learned from my accident is that sometimes the only way to surpass your limits is to push through beyond all reason. That is the point where my own fears threaten to hold me back the most. If I gain better mastery over this feeling, that will not happen anymore."

"That sounds a bit… abstract." Ves furrowed his brows. "Fear is a very normal phenomenon. Not just humans, but also every other species experience fear. It might not be desirable, but it serves as a useful warning and survival mechanism. Trying to get rid of your fear by 'conquering' it sounds extreme."

"I will not accept being a slave to my own fears!" Isobel shot back in a more heated tone. "You are right that fear is very normal among humans, but I want to become more than that. If I want to make resonance strength grow even further, I need to continue what I have started, which is shedding my mortal frailties in order to bring me closer to godhood. My willpower must become strong, pure and focused."

The female ace pilot possessed strong ideas on what it took for a saint like herself to become a god pilot.

They might not necessarily make sense, but it didn't matter too much.

God pilots were existences that defied logic and rules merely by existing!

So long as their willpower became strong enough, they could override the natural rules with unnatural rules, thereby imposing themselves and their surrounding environments to an alternate universe where fantasy turned into reality!

Knowing that such crazy events had come, Ves did not argue too hard about the flaws in her theory.

What mattered was that she committed to her course despite all of the possible misgivings that they might have.

"While I do not entirely understand or agree with your mindset, I can at least tell that you are serious about this." Ves said with a sigh. "So long as that is the case, we will not deny your choices. We will incorporate Triton-Remose-B into the Promethea Mark II as best as possible so that you can begin to master this concept and its manifestations."

The ace pilot smiled at that. Hearing this boosted her confidence. She grew more certain that in this life-changing junction, she had made the best decision for her career!

Her Saint Kingdom trembled as it underwent subtle changes.

Since Ves was standing nearby, he could feel the overall evolution direction.

Though Isobel had not yet begun her quest to master the power of fear, her domain field already adapted to her latest goal and conviction by laying the groundwork.

Her purple radiance became darker and more ominous.

Despite the brightness of her flames, Ves had the illusion that she had turned her back to the light in order to embrace a nefarious force.

Ves grew a little concerned about that. What Saint Isobel Kotin planned to do could lead to a lot of internal hostility and contradictions.

Still, it did not matter if her logic could not hold in reality.

As long as it made sense in her mind, her willpower could overcome any resistance by relying on brute force!

"Let's talk about more concrete concerns and demands." Ves proposed as he took a step back from those convoluted thoughts. "Now that we have received your selection of a key resonating material, we know much better what we are working towards."

He waved his hand, causing a projection of a fairly detailed sketch of the final version of the Promethea Mark II.

Though it might not match the actual ace mech once she had attained her new form, the projected image at least gave Isobel a much clearer idea on what she would be working with in a few months.

Isobel immediately frowned. "I am not satisfied with this appearance anymore. I am no artist or mech designer, but in my eyes, she looks too much like the original Promethea. I have changed since then, and so has my living mech. I want my ace mech to look more…"

"Menacing? Intimidating? Dangerous?"

She nodded. "Exactly. I am not asking you to overhaul her entire look. I still want my mech to retain the identity of the Promethea. I just want her to come in a more… grown-up and rebellious version of her original self. Does that make sense, sir?"

"We can work with that." Ves readily responded. "It will be challenging to design a new look that precisely fits your requirements. Your instructions are too vague and short on specifics. However, you can trust in our vision and craftsmanship. The intimidating ace mech that we end up may not be a perfect match with the Promethea Mark II in your dreams, but as long as the visual overhaul does it job, the differences should be too important."

Ves began to raise his finger and modify the sketch in real-time. He applied his imagination and his artistic ability to rapidly make changes.

The modified sketch cast the Promethea Mark II in a different light, both figuratively and literally.

Much of her shape and contours remained identical. Ves had only made a few angles sharper and such.

What truly altered the vibe of the sketch were the changes in coating, pose and other relatively small details.

Isobel looked genuinely impressed. "This is far from enough, but you are already working in the right direction. Don't be afraid to go further. I trust that you will make sure that everything will look right in the end. The Promethea Mark II needs to inspire fear no matter the race."

"We can take this a big step further, you know."

The ace pilot gazed into Ves' eyes. Her intuition already hinted to her about what might come next.

"You are talking about doing the same thing you did with the Riot Mark III to my Promethea Mark II, is that correct?"

"You are still as clever as ever." Ves sounded impressed yet again. "You are right. Although the process is dangerous and highly consequential, it can amplify your Promethea Mark II to a whole new level. If you desire more power…"

"No."

That was quick. She did not even give him a chance to explain any further. She immediately rejected him without any hesitation.
