The moment the signal was given, both Asher and Acker were already on the move. With cataclysmic impact, the golden staff met the silver rapier, a shockwave blasting through the new forest battlefield Asher had created. Acker found himself skidding backwards as the force behind Asher’s attack was greater than his own.Asher immediately closed the distance once again, his rapier flashing towards Acker’s neck. But Acker simply raised his staff, and with a sundering blast, a metallic burst echoed through the air as the two weapons collided. Acker wasn’t pushed backwards this time, as he had poured more strength into his defense, veins popping and snaking down his arms and legs.
Together, they both vanished, their bodies streaking through the trees as they moved, their speed skyrocketing with every passing moment. The sound of metal colliding continued to fill the air as trees snapped apart and were uprooted, the wind pressure and shockwaves slamming into them with overwhelming force.
Acker’s staff moved fluidly as he attacked from various angles, but it made no difference to the being he was facing. Asher simply weaved through each attack or deflected them with Virelass in his hand as he moved with mechanical precision.
Asher appeared before Acker yet again, his blade closing in on the Buddhist’s neck as he moved to end the battle, but Acker simply vanished from where he stood and appeared a few metres away as though he had teleported. The moment he appeared, his golden staff elongated and seemed to become flexible as he immediately slammed it towards Asher.
Asher instantly dodged to the side, the earth where he had been standing erupting as a deep gash tore through the forest, stretching for tens of metres as though the landscape itself were being divided into two. Dust, stone, sand, tree branches, and bark exploded both outward and forward.
But neither Asher nor Acker paused to acknowledge the destruction. Taking advantage of the flexibility of his staff, Acker simply whipped it through the air with ridiculous force and power, the weapon thrashing through everything in its path as though it were a viper that had gone completely berserk.
Asher vanished from where he stood, his body turning into a blur as he dodged every swing and crushing strike that came from the staff. The moment he blinked into a new position, the staff was already there because of its flexibility, forcing him to evade once again.
Numerous booming explosions followed as different sections of the forest were torn from the battlefield, enormous chunks of land blasted away. Although Asher didn’t know how it was possible, Acker seemed to possess greater raw physical strength than Isaac himself, who could manipulate his own body to an extraordinary degree.
Of course, Acker’s strength still didn’t match the terrifying might Isaac possessed while in his Ultimate State, but that was only for now, as the Buddhist hadn’t even begun using Astra energy to augment his body.
Asher knew he couldn’t evade forever. So this time, instead of dodging, his hand shot forward as he simply caught the writhing staff, securing it beneath his arm and locking it firmly in place. Acker tried to pull it back, but Asher’s strength was simply superior, and he didn’t budge even an inch.
But Acker wasn’t here to compete over who possessed greater strength. He simply manipulated the staff to shorten, and in the next instant, Asher found himself standing directly before the Buddhist as the weapon contracted almost instantaneously, dragging him towards its wielder.
Acker’s fist sang towards Asher’s chest as he moved to tear straight through his heart. But Asher wasn’t someone who could be caught off guard so easily. He already knew the Buddhist could shorten his staff, yet he had still chosen to seize it without letting go. It was only natural that the Buddhist would react this way.
Asher simply sidestepped at the very last possible moment, the fist tearing through the space where his chest had been. But he didn’t merely evade; he counterattacked. His own fist slammed into Acker’s ribs with devastating point-blank precision.
Acker’s body was hurled sideways, ripping through trees and hills alike as a towering wall of dust rose into the sky. Yet the Buddhist immediately rose to his feet completely unharmed, having erected an Astra energy barrier at the final possible moment directly at the point of impact to intercept Asher’s strike.
But the barrier hadn’t fully withstood Asher’s punch. Asher had torn straight through it, yet by the time his fist connected, enough of its power had been dispersed that Acker felt nothing more than sharp pain, which disappeared the very next moment.
Asher closed the distance once more, Virelass swinging towards Acker’s chest as he moved to split it open. But Acker’s reaction was instantaneous. He raised his staff to intercept the incoming strike, yet before the weapons could collide, Asher’s attack trajectory shifted immediately. His target changed from Acker’s chest to his ribs as he transitioned seamlessly from a slash into a thrust, the movement flowing so naturally that it seemed as though they had never been separate techniques to begin with.
Just as the attack was about to connect once more, Acker vanished from where he stood, his body flickering into existence several metres away just as before. The tip of Asher’s blade met nothing but thin air, and an air cannon blasted forward as the atmosphere itself seemed to collapse completely, obliterating everything within a four-hundred-metre radius.
Asher’s purple eyes shifted towards the Buddhist. This was the second time the man had moved with such speed, and Asher knew it wasn’t mere velocity. At this point, he had already deduced that the Buddhist could teleport. As for how, Asher didn’t know. Perhaps it was one of his abilities or something else entirely, but he knew the Buddhist hadn’t displayed any form of spatial manipulation thus far.
As for Acker being capable of teleportation, it was only natural that he could. With his Chuunibyou ability, Acker could quite literally do almost anything. Because Acker genuinely believed that, as a Buddhist destined to cleanse the world of sin, he should be capable of appearing anywhere to save both people and his followers, he had manifested the ability to teleport.
Truly, his delusions were something else.
But Asher wasn’t bothered by it. Instead, he welcomed it. He wanted to see what other skills this Buddhist was hiding beneath his peaceful demeanour. And unlike Isaac, whose potential applications of Biomancy people could at least speculate about, nobody could fathom what Acker was capable of. After all, nobody knew what his ability truly was. Even Acker himself didn’t know exactly what his ability was. If he did, it would defeat the entire purpose.
Acker didn’t hesitate to augment his body with Astra energy, as he knew that if he continued fighting like this, he would lose miserably without knowing how. With that, he vanished from where he stood once more, teleporting to Asher’s side as he brought down his staff as though it were a judgement descending from the heavens.
But Asher simply teleported as well, his body appearing behind the delusional man, Virelass already singing towards his spine as he moved to cripple him where he stood. But Acker’s senses were sharp, far too sharp, and he seemed to possess just as much battle IQ as Isaac. He vanished once again, teleporting away as his figure appeared directly above Asher before swinging his staff down with overwhelming force once more.
