Chapter 912: Cleaver Of Sin

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The moment Asher stepped into the tunnel, his eyes fell upon a few students from other Academies who had always watched Asher’s battles alongside everyone else and were already waiting within the tunnels as though anticipating his return. Asher felt their gazes, he felt their emotions, but his eyes remained calm, and he didn’t bother reacting to any of it, as he simply had no reaction to give.

He ignored them and walked forward, their eyes following him from behind as though they wondered if he was truly human, as though they wondered whether, if they stabbed his heart, he would bleed red or even actually die.

As Asher walked, he was stopped by a familiar bald man who was now dressed in another yellow-styled kasaya monk robe. Another set of monk prayer beads and a Mala bead necklace already rested around his neck, yet the boy wore no space rings on his fingers, as though he simply didn’t need them.

Asher wondered why Acker Holloway had stopped him. His mind couldn’t help but drift to slaying Acker’s god. He wondered if Acker was here to throw a tantrum or deliver some hateful speech and stuff like that. After all, people who believed too fanatically in religion always had a tendency to push things too far.

Besides, he still wasn’t over the fact that Buddhism actually existed.

Tears began to fall from Acker’s eyes as he spoke. "I always thought I was the Hero, the one blessed and ordained to save this world from sin and to help Humanity remain steadfast as it approached the ultimate end," he began to speak, his tone calm, as though apologizing while also sounding somewhat eager.

"But I was wrong... I’ve been utterly wrong. I was only sent here as an aid to the Hero, to help him on his path to the top as he saves the world, as he rids the world of sin," he continued, his tears drying the moment they reached his jawline. "You are the Hero, Asher Wargrave. You are destined to reach the top, you are destined to become the strongest, you are destined to cleave all sins... you are The Cleaver Of Sin," his tone becoming increasingly fanatical with every word.

As he spoke, he got down on his knees and bowed, his head touching the floor as he prostrated himself like a true servant before his Hero.

Acker’s mind had birthed a new delusion as he watched the battle between Asher and Arianna. At first, he had been utterly shocked that he had summoned his god, Buddha, and still lost. But then, a revelation occurred to him that he had only been able to summon a weak version of his god because he had been walking the wrong path all along. He was never the Hero; he was only ever meant to be the priest in the Hero’s party.

He believed he had been wrong all along, and yet Buddha had still answered his prayer because Buddha hadn’t wanted to abandon him despite his mistaken interpretation of his destiny.

Asher stood silent, stunned, and speechless. Even if he had been given a billion attempts, he would never have guessed that Acker’s delusions would somehow be directed toward him, nor would it have twisted in this particular direction.

Asher remained silent. He didn’t know what to say or how to address the situation. He couldn’t just abandon this guy here. Well, maybe if nobody else were watching, he would have spared himself the embarrassment and simply ignored Acker altogether.

Asher sighed and lowered himself as he placed a hand on Acker’s shoulder. Acker raised his head, his tears seemingly defying gravity as not a single one of them touched the ground. He stared into Asher’s purple eyes as though he had finally been acknowledged.

"Although I understand your prayers and your devotion to Buddhism, unfortunately, I don’t believe in your god, or any other god, or whatever else may be out there, so I can’t be your Hero, Acker Holloway," he stated as he rose from his squatting posture.

Although he said that, in his past life he had actually believed in God. But now, after being reborn on a new planet, he no longer did, which was honestly kind of amusing.

Without another word, Asher walked past Acker without waiting for the Buddhist to say another alarming thing that he wouldn’t know how to react or reply to.

Unfortunately, Acker Holloway’s ability couldn’t manipulate people’s free will or minds into doing his bidding. If it could, Acker would have already harbored delusions of having a massive number of monk followers, and he would have actually obtained them. Even if his ability could manipulate minds, unfortunately, such a thing couldn’t work on Asher because his System protected both his mind and soul.

So, even if Acker met a billion people, none of them would immediately become the Hero he wished for. Unless they too came to believe that they were the one true Hero, and then Acker’s abilities would go as far as granting this so-called Hero, Hero-like abilities, but of course, that was only if Acker himself was delusional enough to wholeheartedly believe that this particular Hero truly possessed Hero-like abilities. If he didn’t, then even if the person who believed they were a Hero embraced that belief with every fiber of their soul, they would remain painfully average and however they were prior to their belief.

Acker’s ability was simply that absurd... sigh.

’What was wrong with that guy?’ Asher thought to himself as he walked forward, though he could still perceive Acker behind him through his Omni Perception, with Acker continuing to stare silently at his back.

But unfortunately for Asher, delusional people weren’t so easy to get rid of.

To Acker, Asher rejecting Buddha without a shred of hesitation was simply a punishment from Buddha directed at him, Acker, for having misinterpreted his place in the world and everything else.

And what greater punishment could there be for any priest than being tasked with winning over a soul who didn’t possess even the faintest shred or flicker of faith? But Acker was determined. First, he would abandon the Vandross Empire and enroll at the Star Academy of the Zarethorne Empire. Even if he was already graduating and might not be accepted, he would find a way through it.

After all, he possessed more than enough resolve to overcome this trial.

With that, Acker rose to his feet. His path had already been paved, his plans had already been made, and all he had to do now was walk the road before him.

Get close to The Cleaver Of Sin Hero, join his Hero party as its priest, and bring peace to the world.
