"So, what do you want to talk about?" Azaron asked as he snapped out of his thoughts, already knowing that Asher wanted to ask him or tell him something.Azaron’s words snapped Asher out of his fantasies about swimming in ten million platinum coins.
While they walked, he spoke, "I don’t know if you know this or not, but my soul-bound rapier, Virelass, possesses the ability to teleport to anywhere I’ve marked," his tone calm. "And due to the amount of talent and power I’ve displayed during the Inter-Empire tournament, I’m sure you and everyone else know that people will be coming for my head," he said with a smile as he added that last part.
Azaron didn’t interrupt; he merely listened to his son’s words.
"So, I plan to mark you, so when the worst comes to reality, I can teleport my enemy and myself, or just myself, to you," Asher stated, his words coming to an end.
Hearing Asher’s words, Azaron asked, "Are you afraid you will be killed?"
Asher shook his head. "I’m not. But at the end of the day, what I have is talent and potential, not immediate power. I’m not saying I’m going to run away at the first sight of trouble by teleporting my enemies to you or anything of the sort," he explained, not wanting Azaron to misunderstand.
Azaron simply laughed a little before replying, "I don’t mean that, my son," his tone amused. "I’ve seen your battle with Debro, and you’ve also fought quite a few strong people. Running away isn’t something we Wargraves do, so I know you won’t teleport people you can handle to me," he explained. "When I asked if you are afraid of dying, I only meant that question as simply as I asked it," he added with a calm smile.
His head turned towards Asher as they walked, his golden eyes looking down while he towered over him. "Remember what I said a few months back? I will hold the sky even if it falls, so leave the enemies that are far stronger than you to me and simply face those you can handle." He spoke with the calm smile of a father. "And as you said during your speech, I indeed look forward to taking their lives," he stated.
Asher couldn’t help but heave an internal sigh of relief. He didn’t want Azaron misunderstanding and thinking that just because it seemed as though the world was coming after his head, he was now afraid or anything of the sort.
Azaron stared at Asher for a moment before shaking his head and looking ahead with a smile. He was happy that his son could rely on him instead of going to Malrik. Azaron’s mind couldn’t help but drift back to his own younger days. Due to his own ridiculous talent, he too had been hunted down, but his own Father had always been there to reduce anybody who was stronger than Azaron at the time to nothing.
His own Father had personally been his shadow protector, not Morthen, not Morgana, nor any of his uncles. And now, with Asher coming to him instead, those memories couldn’t help but rush back to the forefront of his mind.
’Although he did it mostly because he just wanted to hog all the battles for himself,’ Azaron mused inwardly, his thoughts lingering on his deceased Father, Nazak Wargrave.
Azaron’s mind shifted to one occasion when a Duke from the Thalvorn Empire had bribed a maid of the Wargrave Family to poison his food. His Father, Nazak, had gone completely insane at the time. He killed the maid who had poisoned the food before wiping out her entire family.
Although it was later revealed that the maid’s family had been kidnapped and she had been forced to do what she did, Nazak hadn’t cared. After all, no maid in her right mind would poison a Sun’s food simply for money. Why she had poisoned his son didn’t matter to him; all that mattered was that she had done it.
Nazak had told the maid that she could have come to him, and they would have rescued her family, but she hadn’t.
And when Nazak went to wipe out the maid’s family, Azaron had interfered, stating that the maid’s family had nothing to do with it. But Nazak had one simple piece of cold logic; the maid had touched his family, so he would simply touch hers. Nothing more, nothing less.
Azaron smiled as he remembered his Father calling him a naive idiot before knocking him unconscious and proceeding to wipe out the maid’s family.
But Nazak Wargrave, the madman, hadn’t stopped there. The man had simply informed Cyrvexis that he needed to handle something important and would be leaving the Empire. On that very same day, Nazak Wargrave flew to the Thalvorn Empire while carrying the unconscious Azaron on his back.
His purpose was simple; wipe out the entire Ducal Family that had dared poison his son. Overlord Cynthia was the ruler of the Thalvorn Empire at the time, and she had tried to reason with Nazak. But Nazak wasn’t called a madman for nothing.
He severely injured Overlord Cynthia before proceeding to wipe out the entire Ducal Family. Their soldiers, their Knights, their maids, their butlers, their businesses, the children, their Enduron and ordinary horses, their flying beasts, nothing was spared. He even tore an enormous sinkhole into the lands they possessed, leaving behind only devastation and bloodshed.
If the Thalvorn Empire hadn’t been divided into Rings, and the Nobles had instead been allowed to rule over subjects the same way the other three Empires did, Azaron feared that his Father might have wiped out the commoners as well in his overwhelming rage, a fury that had continued festering within his Father’s mind and heart throughout their entire week-long flight to the Thalvorn Empire.
Nazak didn’t even bother taking their wealth. He tore open their vault before personally burning and destroying the mountains of platinum coins, food, and everything stored within it. Even priceless artifacts were reduced to ashes and scrap. The man was truly insane.
Azaron sighed as he remembered watching everything descend into utter madness and chaos while his Father floated high above, silently staring down at the destruction with unrestrained madness swirling within his eyes.
He, Azaron, had also been fighting for his own life at the time, although he had only faced the weaker soldiers and minor experts, as Nazak hadn’t brought him along merely to watch the massacre unfold. Instead, it had been another lesson, another ruthless form of tempering that only a man like Nazak Wargrave could devise.
That particular day became one of the minor dents upon Overlord Cynthia’s rule. She publicly announced only that two Rank 10 Emovirae had suddenly appeared and attacked, leaving her critically injured after she successfully drove them back. The news greatly boosted her popularity and favourability among the people.
And of course, the Nobles didn’t hesitate to take advantage of her critically injured state. After all, healing beings who had reached the Crownstar Life Rank was no small matter. While she, alongside all Crownstar Life Rankers, could instantly regenerate from minor injuries, critical ones couldn’t be regenerated so easily or healed so swiftly, even by Crownstar Life Rank healers, as such healing sessions could take days, months, or even years depending on the severity of the injury and the lingering damage left behind.
It had taken Overlord Cynthia one full decade to recover completely, and to this very day she still bore a scar that had never truly faded, serving as a permanent reminder of the price she had paid that day.
But she never once dared entertain any ideas regarding the Wargraves. Instead, she merely tightened her iron-fisted control over the Nobles, ensuring that no one under her rule would ever provoke that terrifying family again, for she knew better than anyone else what the consequences of doing so truly were.
