But alas, people hardly knew any of this. After all, Nazak simply displayed new abilities every time people saw him, just as Morthern did.Although Azaron had some guesses regarding the nature of his Father’s ability because of its name, they remained just that, guesses.
Azaron mentally sighed again for the nth time as this father-and-son moment with Asher couldn’t help but remind him of the time he had spent with his own Father and Mother.
Although he didn’t say it out loud, he would forever miss them. He wished that he would see them again on the other side when he finally crossed over.
He shook his head as he discarded his nostalgic thoughts and feelings. He had forgotten about his youngest son and was here thinking about his own parents.
"Forgive me, it seems I was lost in my own thoughts while thinking about various things," Azaron spoke, his eyes turning towards Asher as he apologized with a smile.
Asher simply nodded as he replied, "I understand."
To Asher, the best guess was that Azaron had been thinking about his wife, Lily. To him, she was the only person Azaron could have been thinking about to arouse so many complex emotions within the span of mere seconds. But he never voiced any of this aloud. After all, he had never personally known Lily, nor had the original Asher.
But sometimes, he couldn’t help but wonder how Lily truly was for Azaron and everyone to love her so deeply.
"So, where were we?" Azaron asked, his voice snapping Asher out of his thoughts.
"Leaving the Mark on you," Asher replied flatly as they continued walking.
Azaron finally came to a stop before the glass window before asking, "So, how does it work?"
He truly didn’t know. Although he already knew Asher could teleport, he had never bothered himself with the finer details regarding the ability.
Asher’s hand moved to Virelass hanging at his waist as he unsheathed it before speaking, "I only need to slash any part of your body, and the Mark will be placed on that part," his tone calm.
Asher had never planned on using his own personal Position Marks, as that would have been foolish. If he encountered someone he couldn’t handle, he wouldn’t have the luxury of remaining completely immobile for even a single second while the ability activated. So, Virelass’ Position Mark was the better option.
Azaron looked at Virelass for a moment before speaking. "If you need to injure me first with Virelass to place the Mark, then I’m afraid to disappoint you, but Virelass isn’t sharp enough to cut through my skin," his tone calm and flat.
Asher smiled as he shook his head. He had never been delusional enough to believe he could injure Azaron. Just because soul-bound weapons were indestructible didn’t suddenly mean they could cut through everything in existence.
"I don’t need to cut through your skin, Father," Asher explained. "I only need to slash against your body. As long as Virelass touches you, the Mark will be left behind," he stated.
Azaron remained silent for a moment before replying with a nod. "I see..."
"Okay then, slash at my chest," Azaron said as he pointed at his broad chest, standing completely unmoving.
Asher hesitated for a brief moment at the thought of raising his blade against Azaron. But at the end of the day, he wasn’t drawing his rapier to kill the man, nor could he even injure him. With that thought, the hesitation vanished as Virelass blurred forward in a streak of silver.
The instant Virelass struck Azaron’s chest, Asher’s entire arm dislocated from the shoulder while his elbow and wrist snapped as well. The terrifying rebound force from a single harmless slash rendered his entire arm useless, while all Azaron did was stand there and watch without moving even an inch.
Crimson Pact immediately activated as Asher’s injuries rapidly healed, his bones snapping back into place almost instantly.
Azaron didn’t react as though he had already expected such an outcome due to the sheer ridiculousness of his own Physique. At that moment, his entire attention was focused upon his chest as he stared at it, his mind and eyes flashing with calculations. The man remained like that for several seconds, utterly motionless like a perfectly sculpted mannequin.
After a few moments, he finally spoke. "I see... so it doesn’t leave behind any Mark that can be sensed or seen, not even Astra that can be traced."
Azaron was slightly amazed that there was still something even he couldn’t perceive, as it genuinely appeared as though Asher had done nothing more than harmlessly slash his chest.
"Precisely," Asher stated as the pain in his fully healed arm completely vanished. He couldn’t help but wonder just how thick a Human’s skin could possibly become.
Azaron immediately lost interest in the Mark, seeing no point in dwelling on it any further. He simply nodded at Asher, and that was the end of the matter.
"If you ever encounter Voidstar Life Rankers or anyone above that realm, don’t even bother trying to fight them. Teleport them to me," he stated, his golden-colored eyes meeting Asher’s purple ones.
He was giving this warning specifically because he knew his son had a habit of challenging opponents stronger than himself. But Voidstar Life Rankers could erase a thousand kilometres with ease, their destructive scale reaching an utterly insane level.
He didn’t want Asher suddenly dying simply because he had overestimated himself. Yes, the boy wasn’t arrogant or prideful, but Azaron feared that after the Inter-Empire Tournament, because of the admiration and attention Asher had received, coupled with obtaining the Fruit of Dawn, he might unknowingly begin overstepping the limits of his own strength.
Yes, the Wargraves never ran from their enemies, but that didn’t mean they fought foolish battles or willingly handed over their lives on a silver platter. While Azaron might have been mentally prepared to endure the possibility of losing any of his children during the Wargrave’s True Awakening, he knew he would never be able to forgive himself if they died outside of that trial.
"I understand, Father," Asher replied with a smile and a nod.
Azaron gently patted Asher’s shoulder for a moment. He had nothing else to say.
"Anything else?" he asked, wanting to know whether Asher had come solely to place the Mark.
