Chapter 1063: Linked Goal

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

"You’ve convinced me," Cindralis stated in a calm tone. "I will also inform the Vice Principal and the Instructors that you will be graduating early, then."

Asher nodded his head. Although her agreement was rather abrupt after they had gone back and forth earlier, he didn’t think too much about it. He had achieved the first part of his goal for coming here.

Seeing Asher nod, Cindralis continued, "But it won’t be that easy," her eyes still on him.

Asher looked at her as though wondering what she meant, but he already knew she would be talking about some sort of graduation test, just like how the final-year students received their graduation exams as missions.

Thinking of the final-year students, Asher couldn’t help but imagine a final-year student dying during their final-year mission exam. The thought seemed amusing, but he dared not laugh or smile in front of Cindralis.

"As you will be graduating early, I will personally choose your graduation exam, and it will be a mission," Cindralis explained.

Asher simply nodded, not bothering to act surprised.

"If the mission is already available, I’m ready to accept it here and now," he stated as he assumed that Cindralis would have already prepared the mission details and was simply waiting for him to come.

Cindralis tilted her head to the side for a moment as she asked in a confused tone, "Why do you seem to be in a haste?"

’In a haste?’ Asher thought in confusion as he wondered what made Cindralis even think that. He simply just wanted to get it over with.

"I’m not in a haste. It’s just that if you already have a mission in mind, I don’t see the need for delaying," he replied with a shake of his head.

Cindralis just stared at him as though trying to decipher if he was telling the truth or lying.

"The mission isn’t ready," she replied. "Only the final-year students’ missions are ready, as we’ve already compiled everything within the three-day break we gave you all. We didn’t account for you applying for early graduation, but something will be ready soon so you can graduate at the same time as the third-year students," she explained.

And indeed, her words were somewhat true. While she had anticipated Asher applying for early graduation, she hadn’t bothered stressing herself looking for a mission for him. She would simply toss that job to Berion; she had no reason to stress herself. And if Berion was too busy, then the Instructors, who had all the free time on their hands, could look for a mission for him.

"I understand," Asher replied with a nod.

"But just because you will be going on a mission for your early graduation doesn’t mean you can skip the end-of-the-year exam for your class," Cindralis continued. "If you miss that, then you might as well just drop out, and I won’t bother myself looking for a good mission that can challenge you," she stated in finality.

"I never planned on skipping it," Asher answered truthfully, as he had never actually planned on doing so.

Cindralis nodded. "You will receive news of your mission after you pass your end-of-the-year exam," she added. "You may leave."

Although Asher was told he could now leave, he remained seated as he had something else to ask.

"There is something else I wish to discuss," he stated, his tone becoming a bit serious.

Cindralis didn’t think much about it and simply replied.

"Speak."

Asher stayed silent for a moment, wondering how to bring it up, but after a moment of delay, he decided to just hit the nail on the head. It wasn’t like there was any other way.

"I want to know if you’ve heard anything about, and also anything you can tell me about, the First True War and the Erased Era," his tone calm as he met Cindralis’ eyes.

Hearing Asher’s words, Cindralis’ entire demeanor seemed to change, the air within the study chamber becoming chilling.

"Where did you hear about that?" Her voice was heavy, as though he had touched upon knowledge he shouldn’t know.

Asher didn’t react to her change in temperament. He simply remained as calm as possible as he spoke, "I’m afraid I can’t say."

Although she looked like she was going to pounce at him and kill him, Asher wasn’t exactly afraid, as he knew Cindralis wouldn’t do anything to him. Normally, he would have lied through his teeth like an expert, but there wasn’t a single convincing lie he could come up with as an answer.

Although he wanted to say that the Convergence was talking about it or something of that nature, he had ultimately decided against it. Cindralis would see through such lies; Crownstar Life Rankers weren’t exactly easy to fool.

So, he could just say he couldn’t say, and Cindralis would do nothing about it.

And most importantly, her reaction meant she knew something... more than something.

Hearing Asher’s words, Cindralis stayed silent. If Asher was just anyone, she would simply force the answer out of them without mercy.

"Tell me your source, and I will tell you what I know," she finally spoke, an exchange of information for information.

Asher had anticipated something like this, but he hadn’t expected her to want information on this. Asher was tempted, after all, the person the information came from was already dead. And he couldn’t exactly give out a half-truth, Cindralis would know, meaning Lyra would have to enter the picture.

And Asher wasn’t willing to do that.

’Sigh... plans hardly go according to how they were planned,’ he thought to himself with a mental sigh.

If he wanted anyone to know Lyra’s involvement, he would simply go ask Malrik, Great Elder Morthen, or even Azaron about these hidden secrets. He could trust them with the information relating to Lyra... as for Cindralis, not so much.

Of course, he might be overthinking things, as Lyra didn’t exactly know anything. But Cindralis might not see it that way. And he wasn’t sure he could predict or anticipate this Crownstar Life Ranker.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Besides, he couldn’t help but wonder why Cindralis was reacting so strongly to the question, as though she had lost someone to the First True War. And if she had, he wouldn’t be exactly surprised. With Cindralis herself being alive till now, and that End-Class Monster living for nineteen thousand years, he wasn’t sure how many old monsters were still alive from ancient times.

"I’m sorry... I can’t say," he replied after a moment of silence.

Cindralis held his gaze for a moment. After a while, the chilling atmosphere between them began to dissipate.

"All I can tell you is that... the Sinvairas’ goal is linked to it," she finally spoke, as though not wanting to go into detail.

Asher stayed silent for a moment as he wondered what the goal was. But alas, he knew no matter how hard or how long he thought about it, he could never know.

’It seems because everything has been working out for me for a while, I walked in here brazenly expecting a definite answer if she knew something,’ he thought to himself.

Malrik had told him about the Sinvairas and the Convergence. Cindralis had told him about the World Barrier. Lyra had brought up the topic of the Erased Era and the First True War.

He had expected a definite answer from Cindralis because this information had come easily to him.
