Asher stayed silent for a moment. This was probably the first time Azaron had given him genuine, fatherly advice. Asher wouldn’t deny it; he didn’t possess any heightened alertness or sense of danger simply because he was heading to the battlefield. He treated it just like everything else: he would get there and go with the flow. That had always been his way.
He wasn’t even surprised that Azaron knew about Lyra’s breakthrough to the Crownstar Life Rank, as they had both deduced as much.
"I shall take every word seriously, Father," he stated, understanding that if he relied on Lyra too much for anything, he would eventually become dependent on her.
Although he didn’t plan on doing that, as he would only request her help with things that were beyond his capabilities.
Azaron gave a warm smile. To him, Asher was finally leaving the nest, almost like a bird taking its first flight. Although eight of his children had already gone to various Frontiers, he could never get used to the feeling of watching them leave, establish their own homes, and move out.
Despite some of his children having moved out, Azaron still left their rooms untouched to this day. He was ready to welcome any of them back if something happened or they could no longer continue moving forward.
"I’m sure you will love the Frontier," he stated after a moment.
From his space ring, a Teleportation Scroll appeared. He tossed it to Asher, who simply caught it and stared at it. He wondered if tearing it would teleport him to the Frontier he intended to travel to.
"That isn’t for you," Azaron explained. "When your coachman gets you to the Frontier, how is he supposed to return without anyone to protect him?"
At Azaron’s words, the realization dawned on Asher.
’It seems getting to the Frontier isn’t so easy,’ he mused to himself, understanding that to teleport anywhere, one must first have placed some sort of mark there for the Teleportation Scroll to work.
And if there were teleportation marks at the Frontiers, enemies could simply teleport there and cause a massacre.
Asher rose to his feet as he spoke. "I suppose I should get going."
"I won’t be seeing you out, then," Azaron replied as he began opening the pages of his book.
Asher bowed, then headed toward the door. Upon reaching it, he stopped and turned toward Azaron for a moment. He smiled, then stepped out of the room completely.
Seeing Zarek standing outside as usual, Asher spoke. "Goodbye, Uncle Zarek."
Zarek simply nodded as he replied, "I wish the Young Master success in his endeavors." A small warm smile appeared on his lips.
Although he didn’t say it out loud, he would definitely miss the Tenth Sun’s presence.
’He has grown so much,’ he thought to himself.
Asher gave a brief nod, then looked at Lyra. Together, they walked away. He had simply come here to tell Azaron which Frontier he was heading to, nothing more.
Asher arrived at the Wargrave Library. Opening the door, he stepped inside. As usual, Great Elder Morthern was in his usual position, his legs crossed on the desk as he seemed engrossed in a novel. Asher didn’t greet him, as the man seemed to be mentally absent at the moment, so he simply walked past him and searched for the section containing records of previous Primarchs.
Asher looked through the shelves, then stopped at a section that recorded information about the Fifteenth Primarch, Runera Wargrave. Asher took out the book, leaned against the shelf, and flipped through the pages. According to the information, Runera was a mad woman who started chaos simply for the fun of it and joined battlefields that had nothing to do with her.
She had once joined a war between the Vandross Empire and the Thalvorn Empire. This was a war that had nothing to do with the Zarethorne Empire, but the woman had traveled there and joined the conflict. She didn’t attack a single side and then side with the other. No, she simply caused damage to both sides.
And the funny part was that these two Empires didn’t complain much. They simply leaked information about each other to Runera, and she went on a rampage against both sides. She was almost like a unpaid mercenary.
Asher paused somewhere down the lines when he read that Runera had proposed to the Elders and Great Elders that they create a Fifth Empire, just so the Fifth Empire could wage war against all four Empires.
She was truly a mad woman through and through.
’I remember Elder Brother Malrik saying something about a Primarch in the past proposing the idea of a Fifth Empire. Who would have thought it was her?’ Asher thought to himself as he closed the book.
’She really deserves the title Sovereign of Battlefields,’ he mused as he leaned away from the wall.
Her ability was Blood, but she was so proficient in controlling it that she was rumored to have resurrected herself after being killed on a battlefield. Of course, neither the claim nor its denial had ever been confirmed, but the rumor alone showed how overwhelming she was. Such a story had spread in the first place and was even believed to be true because of her terrifying reputation.
As he walked away after satisfying his curiosity, his eyes fell on Morthern, who seemed not to have noticed him until then. As he walked past Morthern and tried to open the door, Morthern spoke.
"Be careful out there, kid. I once lost an aunt at the Frontier," he stated, explaining nothing further or saying anything more.
Asher froze mid-step for a moment at Morthern’s words. Although he didn’t know much about the family tree of the past, it seemed that the Wargraves had always fallen on one battlefield or another.
Nazak had died in a one-versus-three ambush, Runera seemed to have died on a battlefield while taking her opponent down with her, and now an aunt from the past had fallen during her time at the Frontier.
"I will, Great Elder," he replied, then pushed the door open and stepped outside.
As he walked out, Lyra asked, "Did you find what you were looking for, Young Master?"
"I did, and it’s time to leave," Asher replied as he walked forward.
Lyra halted her steps and bowed as she spoke. "I will call Coachman Kent to the front. He has already been briefed on the journey."
As her words fell, she vanished from where she stood, rushing to ensure the carriage was already in place before her Young Master arrived.
Asher arrived outside and looked around the Wargrave Estate one last time. He took in the trees, flowers, water fountains, Knights, and everything else one final time before his attention shifted toward another direction.
In that direction, Kent could be seen controlling some type of horse-shaped Monster. The carriage pulled by the two black horses was also crafted differently, as though it had been designed to possess greater durability than even most durable carriage.
"Good morning, Tenth Sun," Kent spoke the moment he climbed down from his position.
"Morning," Asher replied, his eyes shifting toward the horse-shaped Monster and the carriage.
Kent seemingly understood Asher’s curiosity and began to explain.
