Chapter 1237: Ghoul

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Vellamira stared at Yveric’s standing corpse for a moment, the smile on her face still remaining. After a couple of seconds, the smile gradually faded as the excitement from the battle wore off.

"It’s such a shame, Yveric. I’ve watched you grow up since you were a kid."

She stated with a calm expression as she stood with her hands behind her back, her eyes still not leaving Yveric, who stood with his eyes wide open and a hole in his left chest.

When Vellamira said that she had watched him grow up since he was a kid, she wasn’t joking. She had kept an eye on him, not out of any kind of affection, but simply to keep tabs on him, as he had been appointed Knight Commander centuries ago.

But it wasn’t just Yveric. She had kept an eye on every single Knight Commander and every single Primarch before Azaron, Nazark, and everyone else. And it wasn’t just the Wargraves, either, but all the Ducal Households and Nobles. Even the Imperial Families were under their watch.

And this extended across all four Empires.

As a group that had been in existence for almost twenty thousand years, it was simply easy for them to do these kinds of things. And with their ability to appear almost anywhere, regardless of distance or location, through an artefact, it was even easier.

She shook her head as she felt a pit of pity for him. She touched his shoulder and brought him to the ground, laying him on his back.

Just because she was a Sinvaira didn’t mean she was incapable of feeling emotions. However, one shouldn’t mistake what she was doing at the moment for the expression of genuine emotions. To her, Yveric was simply a toy she had watched from a distance and grown fond of because of his abilities and lance.

Nothing more.

Kraymar, who was standing at the side, began to walk forward, his steps calm as his skeletal face showed no reaction to Yveric’s death. If he had been the one fighting Yveric, he wouldn’t have prolonged the fight for ten minutes but would have simply one-shotted the man and gotten it all over with.

"Since you’ve had your fun with your toy, let’s get it over with."

Kraymar spoke as he came to a stop behind Vellamira, who was kneeling on one knee beside Yveric.

Vellamira didn’t speak for a moment. Her smile returned, but it was a different kind of smile. She simply rose to her feet and walked away.

Kraymar took her place. He extended his bony palm over Yveric’s corpse as he spoke.

"Answer my call, Yveric. Heed me as thy Master and die for me when the time comes."

At his words, Astra Energy erupted from his bones in huge waves. Even though his body was made of nothing but bones, he still possessed Astra Veins, as they were embedded within his bones.

Kraymar’s Astra Energy surged towards Yveric’s corpse. Yveric’s body trembled and spasmed as though he were convulsing. After a moment, his body stopped moving, and following that was... nothing.

The ritual had failed.

Vellamira, who was standing at the side, smiled as she spoke.

"As expected of Yveric, even in death, his Will to serve only the Wargraves and nobody else remains unmatched."

She praised him, feeling a little proud.

Kraymar turned towards her, his eyes ablaze as he spoke in a puzzled tone.

"I can never understand how you become so attached to these Humans after watching them for so long, yet kill them so easily without a shred of hesitation."

He was truly puzzled, as he couldn’t understand what was going on in this woman’s head.

Vellamira shrugged without replying.

Kraymar said no more, his eyes returning to Yveric’s corpse. To him, it didn’t matter if Yveric resisted, as he could simply pour more Astra Energy and Will into the ritual and get it over with.

"Answer my call, Yveric. Heed me as thy Master and die for me when the time comes."

He spoke once more, his Astra Energy coming alive again as it slammed into Yveric’s corpse.

The same process repeated itself, with Yveric’s body trembling at an unbelievable speed and in an unnatural manner until it finally stopped once more.

The next moment, a surge of Astra Energy exploded from Yveric’s corpse as Kraymar finally succeeded in using his ability. But the Astra Energy emanating from the dead Yveric wasn’t golden like every other Astra Energy out there. No, this time, it was pitch-dark.

Kraymar referred to this pitch-dark Astra Energy as Corrupted Astra Energy.

Although he had named it as such, it was simply the same Astra Energy, only with a different colour because it was being used by an undead being rather than a living one. It was just like how Acker Holloway’s Buddha used Divine Energy, which, in essence, was simply Astra Energy.

The pitch-dark Astra Energy rose towards the sky, twisting together until something akin to a soul began to emerge from Yveric’s body. But it wasn’t a soul... Yveric had been turned into a Ghoul.

However, Yveric’s corpse remained on the ground, perfectly in place, even as a Ghoul was born from his existence.

The Ghoul wasn’t like those from various novels that possessed torn skin, decaying flesh, or other grotesque features. The Undead Yveric stood exactly like Yveric, possessing the memories he had accumulated while alive.

The Undead Yveric raised a hand, and his Corrupted Astra Energy surged as a black lance formed in the next moment. He stabbed it into the ground and went down on one knee as he bowed.

"This young one bows to the Lord."

He stated, his voice firm and brisk.

Kraymar nodded in satisfaction, a smile appearing on his bony face. He placed a skeletal hand on Yveric’s shoulder as he spoke.

"You’ve been reborn. Stronger than before, sharper than before, deadlier and faster. Serve me well, and as a reward for giving me such an entertaining fight, as well as a request from Vellamira... you shall get to keep your name as Yveric."

He stated, his tone filled with nothing but satisfaction at his success.

This was Kraymar’s own ability, or rather, one of them. He could turn the dead into undead, regardless of whether they had been killed by him or not.

His ability allowed him to resurrect anyone into either a Skeleton, a Ghoul, a Zombie, a Dark Knight, or a Lich. However, his Undead ability didn’t grant him the power to choose which form they would awaken as. This meant that the Ghoul form Yveric had taken was simply random and not something Kraymar could control.

When Kraymar said that the Undead Yveric was stronger, sharper, faster, and deadlier, he wasn’t joking. As a Ghoul, the Undead Yveric was now inherently stronger simply because of his race. He possessed literally endless stamina and infinite biological regeneration that didn’t cost him any Astra Energy. As a Ghoul, his senses were also faster.

But... there existed another flaw within Kraymar’s ability.

His Undead couldn’t exactly reveal any secrets to him, as they had lost their memories of them.

Yveric would remember that he had served the Wargraves for centuries, that he had been loyal to them, and that he had lived through his past experiences and training.

He would remember everybody and everything from his life. But when it came to secrets or anything of that sort, those memories were lost from his mind, as though the world itself had erased them.
