Somewhere in the Gem Sea.
A blue ray and a red ray soared through blue sky like lightning.
Angele's body was surrounded with red light and there were blue light dots dancing around his right hand. It almost looked like the dancing light dots were alive.
He acquired those light dots from the traitor of Axis of Time. They were the power of time.
"You're not going to run forever." There was a smile on Angele's face. "You're worried that I'm going to kill you, right? However, that may not be the case. You just need to promise me one thing and we can work together."
The blue ray twitched slightly and a tired voice responded, "What do you want?"
He barely had any choice—if he had not underestimated Angele's power, none of this would have happened. The only thing he wanted was the key, but he made the wrong choice.
"I have a research project that needs some help. You just need to follow my orders, and I'll let this one slide," Angele responded. "You and I are just strangers. There's a chance that we may even become friends during the research. The research will not hurt you and it might even increase your power. It's a win-win situation."
The man's body was surrounded by blue light. His body was translucent, but it slowly liquified—it seemed like he had already used most of his energy.
The man heard Angele's word and hesitated. He was not sure if Angele was lying or not. After the experiment he conducted in Axis of Time, he started to having trouble thinking sometimes.
When he tried his best to focus, the power of time slowly created a scene in his sight. The scene was displayed on numerous black and white paintings.
The man was about to accept Angele's offer, however, he suddenly heard himself screaming in pain. He felt like he was seeing the future. He was imprisoned in a small cell and his head was dissected. A man in a black robe was doing something to his brain.
The terrifying scene made his body tremble. He did not respond to Angele's words and suddenly increased his speed again.
He ignored all of Angele's following persuasion attempts. Angele listed a lot of convincing reasons, but the man did not respond at all; he was getting a bit impatient.
Angele's expression slowly turned cold, and he was no longer speaking in a gentle tone.
"So, it seems like you've made your choice…" Angele spoke in a cold tone.
The man still remained silent, he was just flying.
Angele stopped talking and started chasing after the man again. They were both flying over the Gem Sea.
Although the man had good Stamina, Angele could feel that the man's condition was getting worse and worse. However, he still had a lot of extra energy in his body. He had been chasing the man for three days, and he was confident that he could fly for months without running out of energy.
************************
On a random island in the Gem Sea.
The white island looked like a humongous caterpillar that was lying on the surface of the sea.
There were some buildings and coconut trees on the island. The humans here had brown skin. They were maintaining their farms; some of them were just carrying boxes or washing clothes.
Suddenly, they all raised their heads and looked at the area above the island.
There were more than ten wizards in blue robes floating in the air. They were the ones who owned this island—they were from a wizard organization called the Blue Badge.
The oldest wizard had white hair and his skin was dry. The youngest wizard was around 20 years old. They were led by an old man with his eyes covered by a piece of black cloth.
The old man was in front of the other wizards; he looked a bit anxious. He was holding a golden ring engraved with a lot of red floral patterns in his hand.
"Everyone, send all your energy to me when there's a problem. I'll gather the energy using the Sea Ring!" the old man ordered.
The rest of the wizards all had serious expressions on their faces. The atmosphere was so heavy that they were having trouble breathing.
Blue Badge was a wizard organization that became strong recently. Although there were many wizards in the organization, it was not the strongest one on the west coast. Most of the wizards became formal wizards not so long ago. Their leader, the old man, was the only wizard that lived for over 300 years, but he'd only reached the Gas Stage. Although the leader was weak, he was good at collecting valuable information.
The old man looked at the surface of the sea anxiously; his eyes were not blinking at all.
"The merfolk will perform a certain ritual every several years—they will summon sea monsters to help them establish their position in the sea. We decided to move from the land to the island; we already expected this to happen. However, it seems like the monster they summoned this time is out of control."
"The monster is called Stan, he already destroyed several islands. Some of the small wizard organizations were also caught in the incident, and the monster has already killed thousands of people. I heard that the monsters already ate many formal wizards. Are you sure our method will work?" One of the young wizards looked worried.
"We don't have many choices. This is our only chance. The monsters summoned by the merfolk have a habit. If they fail to destroy an island the first time they invade it, they will not attack the island again. We just need to survive the first invasion."
"But grandpa, why don't we head back to the land? We can come back to the island after the monster leaves," a girl with blue hair wondered. She was the granddaughter of the old man; she just became a rank 3 apprentice not so long ago. She was talented and young; also, she had the bloodline of Siren in her body. The girl was loved by the apprentices and wizards in the organization. She was like a star of this island.
People with certain bloodlines would have a much higher chance to become formal wizards than others. People all thought that she would become a high-rank wizard sooner or later, so the organization spent a lot of resources on her. She was the hope of the organization.
"I want to return to the land, but we don't have enough time. We just received the information that the monster will come today, so we have to face it…" The old man sighed.
"We have the Sea Ring, the legendary ring that was used by the Sea Giants. Sea Giants killed countless sea monsters; we should be fine," the girl said. The other wizards agreed with her because the ring was the only reason why they chose to stay.
Another wizard was about to say something else but he did not get the chance.
"It's here!" The old man's expression changed. "Get ready, everyone!" he shouted, his voice echoing over the island.
The wizards behind him quickly raised their right hands, and light that varied in color flashed in the air.
The old man slowly raised the golden ring.
*BAM*
The ring was blown away by a ray of water that had the speed of an arrow before it was activated. The water arrows pierced through two wizards that stood too close to the old man—there was blood spurting out of their wounds.
The white barriers around their bodies did nothing. They could not believe what'd just happened while falling to the sea.
A humongous blue snake appeared on the water. It grabbed the two dead wizards using its claws and threw them into its mouth.
"Ah!"
The people on the island started screaming, all trying their best to hide. The situation got ugly quickly. The apprentices consumed the prepared potions and turned their bodies invisible. Some of them rushed into the basements; there were also people trying to climb trees.
Two of the wizards were killed before the ring was activated, however, they were not surprised. They quickly regrouped and started casting their spells. They also summoned Fire Elementals and Fire Demons. Several wizards aimed at the snake and raised their wands.
A couple of black runes flashed on the snake's body. The runes looked like insects; they were chewing the snake's flesh. It was a damage spell casted by the wizards.
Following the first spells, several fireballs appeared in the sky and started flying at the snake.
The snake finished two wizards, but it was not prepared for the attacks.
The fireballs all landed on its body accurately.
*CHI*
The scales on the snake's body stood up and blocked all the spells. Its body was not damaged at all.
"Ha, that's all you can do? Do you really think such weak spells can damage me?" The snake opened its mouth and released hundreds of red tongues that looked like tentacles, which then tried to grab the people on the island and the wizards in the sky.
The apprentices were caught by the tentacles, and the snake ate them like snacks.
Two of the wizards were also hit by the tentacles. They screamed and cast two more fireballs on their own bodies. They would rather die than be swallowed by the snake.
The old wizard found the ring and tried to activate it.
However, the golden ring did not do anything.
They finally realized why the big organizations were still trying to figure out a plan to handle this monster. The situation was completely different this time.
There were some purple dots on the golden ring—it seemed like the ring was already polluted.
"That's how merfolk control the sea…"
There was desperation in the old wizard's eyes. He did not communicate with other wizard organizations; otherwise, he would know that the wizard alliance and the Six Ring High Tower already sent their armies to help the small organizations but all failed.
The wizard organizations of the land could not do anything to this monster. They had to wait for the ritual to lose its power so that the sea monster would leave on its own. They made the decision based on their past experiences.
