For the humans, it was pointless to destroy the realms of those they ruled since they could always defeat their subjects again without worrying about the suppressive force of the various realms.

That wouldn't be the case for the immortals, divines, or any other race. They wouldn't hesitate to destroy the realms of their subjects to keep their subjects under control.
