Where was Su Yu? He was naturally still traversing the River of Time. At the moment, he was feeling extremely tired. He was exhausted.
He had been braving the countless waves of the river as he moved upstream. He could feel that he had moved a long distance, passing by numerous massive tributaries, but the pen dao was nowhere to be seen.
And the further he went, the fewer massive tributaries he saw. Even when he found some suitable spots to open a new dao, he had to keep moving forward. Some unlucky people would arrive at a stretch filled with tributaries, leaving them no space to open a new dao. These people would mostly resort to dao fusion instead.
And when picking a dao to fuse, it was essentially gambling for most people. One would bet on the fact that the person who had opened that dao was dead. One would also bet on the fact that the dao was still masterless. Otherwise, one would never become a Master of Law. Only opening a new dao would grant one a high chance of becoming a Master of Law.
Su Yu continued moving upstream. His character technique formed of a hundred characters was also greatly exhausted, but it continued leading the way.
Boom!
Yet another wave came crashing. With a roar, Su Yu used his pen as a saber and unleashed the Sky Sundering Saber, scattering the wave before him. Just then, he noticed a tributary nearby. Thick saber qi was surging from that tributary.
Su Yu merely shot the tributary a glance before looking away with disdain. He had encountered similar situations repeatedly. These tributaries were all related to some of the laws he had comprehended. Thus, they were reacting the moment he approached, calling at him to initiate dao fusion with them.
But they were unable to catch his eye. The latest tributary was a sort of saber dao, but it was too narrow for Su Yu's liking. The River of Time was filled with tributaries. The length of these tributaries was hard to see without a deep exploration, but their width was easy to see.
There wasn't even a need to compare them against the River of Time itself or the Celestial River of Death.
For now, the widest dao Su Yu had seen was the physical body dao of humanity. At a glance, it was roughly ten thousand meters in width, and the waves on it were also incredibly violent.
It was an incomparably powerful tributary.
Second after that was probably the five elemental dao. It was at least three thousand meters in width. Of course, the so-called width one saw was merely a sort of illusion. What one saw might change entirely upon stepping onto that tributary.
And third after that was the dao of the heavenly desolate beast. It was slightly smaller than the five elemental dao, but the difference wasn't big. Even so, this was enough to prove that the dao of the Five Elemental Ancestor was stronger than even the heavenly desolate beast's dao. Alas, he had still died.
Fourth after that were the various other daos, and the gap between them wasn't that big. Right, the old turtle's dao was quite wide as well, but Su Yu had not observed it much. West Royal Consort's dao was massive as well, and Su Yu had also not bothered to observe it much.
With all those daos in mind, Su Yu couldn't help but look at the tiny saber dao with disdain. Why was this weak dao seducing him?
Too weak.
It was only a thousand meters in width. Clearly, it did not have much potential.
It was time to leave.
Su Yu continued onward. That saber dao might have failed to catch his eyes, but it was actually a decent one among the many daos he had encountered along the way. Even so, he still considered it weak. He wouldn't waste the power in his character technique on such a dao. Upon exhausting the power of his character technique, he might not be able to find the pen dao anymore.
Before long, he moved past the saber dao and continued braving the waves of the river.
Bored, he even showcased the various techniques and abilities he knew while traversing the river. As a result, quite a lot of tributaries opened themselves to him, as though they were shouting: "Over here, Customer!"
Sure enough, dao fusion was simple. With enough comprehension, one would have plenty of choices to initiate dao fusion. This was entirely different from pioneering a new dao. Pioneering a new dao would require a much higher level of comprehension. It also required a higher level of strength to create a new tributary on the river.
Su Yu had a feeling that he was already strong enough to open a new tributary. He believed that his comprehension of the various daos was even higher than that of the white dog. That was especially true for some of his unique characters with unique abilities.
Tribulation, fire of civilization, domain...
These characters were unique enough that he could actually open a new tributary based around them.
They were rare enough that very few people had probably comprehended them. Even those who had comprehended them might not have opened new daos based on them. And even those who had opened new daos based on them, their versions might not be the same as Su Yu's.
However, Su Yu knew that even successfully opening a new dao might not necessarily grant him a massive boost in strength. He would need to spend a lot of time growing and exploring the new dao to grow strong.
It might take him a very long time to become a Master of Law through this path. Meanwhile, the pen dao was a ready-made dao.
As a masterless dao, its potential was just as large as an entirely original dao. Also, there was no guarantee that his original dao would be stronger than the pen dao. Su Yu believed that after years under Culture King's control, the pen dao had probably been strengthened considerably as well.
Su Yu believed that there was a way to enlarge a dao upon deepening one's comprehension. He even had an idea of how Masters of Laws would further strengthen themselves upon fully mastering their daos.
By strengthening the daos themselves.
Boom!
After blasting another wave apart, Su Yu panted in confusion. This couldn't be true.
How was he not there yet? With his current strength, he couldn't be weaker than a Culture King who had yet to achieve dao affirmation. If Culture King could reach that dao, why couldn't he?
"Is the River of Time...harder to traverse in this era?" Su Yu sank into thought.
Would cultivation become harder and harder for the future generations?
A certain understanding dawned on him. The number of tributaries would increase, and the number of waves would also increase with the passage of time. Each time he passed by a tributary, he would need to face the waves in the area.
Perhaps during Culture King's era, there were fewer tributaries around, resulting in smoother travel. That was the only conclusion he could reach.
Su Yu refused to believe that Culture King would be stronger than the current him as a peak Sunmoon. He had reached perfection in everything, reaching the very limit a Sunmoon could possibly reach. He couldn't believe that there could be a Sunmoon stronger than him.
He could only grit his teeth and continue.
He braved wave after wave.
Each wave was akin to a trial.
Drop after drop of sweat dripped down from his body to the river. The droplets of his sweat were akin to crystals. Perhaps many years in the future, someone traversing the river would be able to pick up his sweat from the river.
"Was this how I received the tear of Time Sage?"
Some of the methods that seemed unfathomable to him back then were no longer such a mystery.
Boom!
Suddenly, the pen in his hand trembled violently. When he focused at the distant, he saw...something behind a towering wave.
A pen!
"I'm here!"
Su Yu was overjoyed. The journey had lasted so long that he was even wondering if he had actually reached the past.
Boom!
The new wave in front of him was massive. The stronger the tributary, the bigger the waves in the area would be. Of course, the physical body tributary of humanity was the exception. That stretch of river was relatively calm, perhaps because it had been walked by too many people. It was essentially a tamed stretch of the river.
The moment Su Yu saw the pen dao, he grew incomparably excited, to the point he was ignoring the wave before him. With his powerful physical body, he rammed through the wave.
But the moment he clashed against the wave, cracks appeared all over his body. He was forced to draw his blade against the second wave. With a swing of his saber, he cut the second wave apart. Then, he kicked the third wave apart. He followed that with a jab of his pen, blasting the fourth wave apart.
As he advanced, he moved faster and faster. That dao was right ahead of him!
"I'm here!"
With a grin, he rammed into the final wave standing between him and his target. The final wave scattered.
But just as Su Yu was stepping forth happily, he rammed into an incorporeal barrier before taking a few steps back. His expression changed. What was going on? When he focused, his expression changed further.
The seemingly clear path was now blocked by a barrier. Countless chains were wrapped around the tributary, locking it firmly.
"Culture King."
Su Yu was greatly shocked. Culture King had actually set up such a formation right in the River of Time to prevent anyone from intruding upon his dao. Looking at the formation, Su Yu had a feeling that it could be unraveled with his character technique.
In short, his character technique was the key to unlocking this formation. The pen in his hand was trembling, seemingly reminding him that it could unlock this dao. Since Culture King had left this dao behind for his successor, he would naturally do something to prevent unwanted individuals from taking over his dao.
But to lay out a formation within the River of Time? What an impressive feat. With Su Yu's current strength, whatever treasure he left would be blasted apart by any random wave of the river. This feat was beyond him.
"I guess I'll admit that you're impressive."
Su Yu decided to play along and use the key in his hand. With a wave of his hand, the pen flew out before stabbing into the hole at the center of the formation. Then, the entire formation started trembling. Abruptly, the chains around the barrier and tributary retreated, clearing the way forward for Su Yu.
Su Yu wasted no time and stepped into the tributary. The moment he stepped into it, his very surroundings changed.
Violent and rumbling waves surrounded him.
The tributary before him was massive. It felt boundless, as though he was looking at an ocean. It was even bigger than the five elemental dao. It was still smaller than the physical body dao, but Su Yu had a feeling that this dao was as strong as the heavenly desolate beast dao and five elemental dao combined.
At a glance, this tributary was about five to six thousand meters in width. It was more than half the width of the physical body dao.
"What a powerful dao!"
Su Yu had to rearrange the ranking in his mind. This was the third strongest dao he had ever seen after the death spirit dao and physical body dao.
Su Yu gasped in shock. Yes, it was weaker than the physical body dao. But one ought to remember that this was merely a dao Culture King had left behind. A dao he had abandoned. Clearly, Culture King had outgrown it. He had removed his control over it.
Yet even such an abandoned dao was far stronger than the heavenly desolate beast dao and five elemental dao. No wonder he was able to dominate the various Masters of Laws back then with only a pen in hand.
Su Yu started stepping forward. Like the other daos, there was a gap between the main river and the tributary. The gap here was rather big. What method should he use to affirm his dao?
Weapon Fusion Method?
Or something else?
Su Yu had quite a lot of treasures in his collection. The Mark of Civilization, in particular, was something he had prepared to serve as his weapon of dao affirmation. But this was the pen dao. He would much prefer to bear his very own dao with the Mark of Civilization.
No matter what, the pen dao wasn't an original dao of his.
"I will use my body!"
Su Yu decided to use his very body as the weapon and bridge. The Mark of Civilization required further refinement. It was still not strong enough. After his fusion with the pen dao, he would filter his existing characters one more time to further perfect his domain character.
"Yes, I'll use my body."
The gap was large, and it was completely separate from the main river.
However, that was not in Su Yu's mind. He knew that the deeper the comprehension, the easier the fusion would be. He wanted to give it a try and see just how much he could fuse with his existing comprehension.
