Chapter 30.3: Returning Home With Riches and Honor

This chapter is updated by NovelFree.ml

Despite Da Sha’s colossal size and strength, he’d always been a harmless giant fool in the eyes of the village. When little kids picked on him, he’d smile, turn around, and show his back to them. He didn’t want to fight back. He was the better person.

When Shen Lang was beaten and pummelled, Da Sha came to the scene and shielded him from all harms using his back.

Shen Lang would never forget that moment.

And unlike him, Da Sha grew up without the loving care and affection from his parents – his mother died at childbirth and his father… he moved on with life and never looked back. He married a woman three years after and started a family of his own leaving his firstborn child to fend for himself in this fierce and ruthless world.

He was discarded away from his father like he never existed and he realized too early on for his age that he’d only have himself to rely on from that moment forward.

To eat, he would have to work else he’d die from mere starvation. His family wasn’t willing to fork over their resources.

But even if he’s able to work, he could never seem to eat enough. His stepmother restricted his diet, only giving a set of quantity to eat, but it wasn’t enough. He was hungry majority of the time.

… … …

Shen Lang’s mother said earlier on that something ominous and bad happened to his good friend, Da Sha, so he hurried quickly on by to his house.

He stood at the front courtyard studying the layouts of his friend’s house. They lived well no doubt. Da Sha’s father was a well-renowned hunter and titled as the leader of Fengye Village People’s Army hence why they could afford a nice house made of bricks and tiled floorings with three big rooms and thick courtyard fences.

Entering the household, Shen Lang looked around. He did not see his friend, only the stepmother and her only son.

“Where is Da Sha?”

Stunned, the stepmother turned around. “Ah, it’s the fool… how are you?”

But suddenly remembering his newly acquired status and the domineering aura of the two knights behind him, she quickly covered her mouth and sang a different tune.

“Lord Shen, Da Sha is currently working.” She said respectfully.

Going to work? Why did mother say he met an accident?

“Where does he work? I’ll go and find him.” Shen Lang replied. “Furthermore, I’ll give you this money. You have to make sure he eats a full meal every day, do you understand?”

He pulled out a pouch containing 50 silver coins.

When Shen Lang believed his reputation cemented itself to the ground in the Count’s Palace and Xuanwu City, he had plans to take Shen Jiang and Da Sha with him, but for now, Da Sha will need to stay at him home. Till then, at least a tenth of the 50 silver coins would be more than enough to make sure his friend’s belly is fully satiated.

The stepmother’s eyes bulged. She quickly went over and grabbed hold of the pouch. Nodding desperately, she said, “Lord Shen, you can rest assure that I will make sure Da Sha is fed well every day! You have a good conscience, Lord Shen. You do not forget to care for your old friends despite how high you stand above us!”

When Da Sha’s half-brother saw Shen Lang’s richness, he grew bitter with jealousy.

“Who? Da Sha? That fool?” He sneered. “Oh well, I’m sure he’s dead now when he was thrown in the ditch earlier!”

“……” Shen Lang’s countenance immediately changed and he quickly rushed out.

… … …

A quarter of an hour passed before Shen Lang arrive at the place Da Sha laid in abandonment from his cold and uncaring family.

Da Sha looked pale, haggard, and bony as pools of red stained his body whole. His swollen chest heaved up and down faintly and there were many obvious signs of bone fracture. He was near the troughs of death and he could die any second if not treated.

Yet his eyes remained simple and honest. Seeing Shen Lang’s arrival, his eyes flashed a touch of joyful happiness. His heart bloomed and he shouted weakly, “Shen Lang, it’s you? That’s so good! It’s been a while, friend! I missed you!”

“Yeah, here I am.” Shen Lang’s eyes reddened, voice rather hoarse. “Why do you look like that? Why do you look so… miserable?”

“My naughty little brother, he provoked those ferocious beasts in the mountains. Knowing his life was in danger, I, of course, saved him, but in doing so I was heavily injured. Father didn’t have the money to treat me so he left me here…” Da Sha’s voice was solemn, lacking any signs of comfort and happiness.

Meanwhile, uncontrollable tears fell from Shen Lang’s eyes and touched the earthen soil.

Those fucking bastards!

How can such a cold-hearted father exist? How can he live knowing his younger child bullied his elder brother?

He’d often throw dirt on Da Sha’s food, urinate on his bed, steal his hard earned money, and the likes…

But even so… Da Sha had a big heart like his colossal size for he would still go through means of protecting this naughty little half-brother of his despite the horrible treatment he’d been through and yet, all he received in return was their backs turned against him… leaving him to die in this place…?

Even beasts are better than those bastards!

I won’t ever forget this!
