Chapter 58 - Soft Persimmon (2)

“Hello, Yezhi.”

“Yan Yan, are you at home?

I asked Butler Li to prepare dinner, what do you want to eat?” Gu Yezhi’s voice was monotone as usual, but he couldn’t hide his concern for her.

Bai Qingyan smiled, feeling a warmth spreading in her heart. The last time she remembered her husband being this attentive was when Gu Hang crippled her.

She had been bound to a wheelchair, but he hadn’t abandoned her. In fact, he treated her better, taking care of every detail in her life as if she was a child. Even though he was only eight years older than her.

Hearing the concern in his voice just now, she could tell their feelings had finally improved a little.

“Bai Qingyan? Are you listening?” Gu Yezhi’s voice sank when he didn’t receive an answer right away.

If she didn’t want to talk, why did she call him? Did she call him just to play a prank?

This feeling made him uncomfortable.

“I… Yezhi, I’m about to eat with my uncle in the Western Restaurant. I’m sorry, but I can’t have dinner with you tonight. You’re not angry, are you?” Bai Qingyan asked softly. She didn’t want him to be mad at her because she made plans without including him.

Gu Yezhi simply answered, “Good.”

Bai Qingyan put her phone back inside her purse and walked back to the restaurant. The last thing she expected was to come back to a commotion right in front of it.

“Get lost! Quickly leave this place! This is the best restaurant in Wei City! Did you think people like you would be fit to eat in such a refined establishment? Don’t be funny, get out of here at once!” A man’s voice could be heard shouting, his tone dripping with disgust.

“Why are you doing this? I want to eat and can afford it! Let me in!” Bai Jian complained.

Bai Qingyan frowned. Her uncle’s attire was simple and casual, fit for walking around leisurely. However, this was a high-profile restaurant with a strict dress code. Although Bai Jian didn’t care about that, she knew the waiter disapproved of how her uncle was dressed.

She remembered everything her uncle had done for her, even at the expense of his own health. The least she could do was pay him a meal.

Bai Qingyan’s expression darkened as she made her way to the quarreling duo. “What are you doing?!” She shouted at the waiter who had just pushed Bai Jian.

Bai Jian stared at Bai Qingyan, embarrassed. “Yan Yan… ” She had asked him to find them a good place to sit, but he couldn’t even enter the restaurant.

Bai Qingyan supported her uncle, feeling a bit sad. She knew his personality was extremely kind, otherwise, her aunt wouldn’t have tormented her at their home every day as she grew up. If her uncle had been a little bit tougher, her younger days would have been much more tranquil.

She was so furious she pointed at the man and scolded him. “You… What’s your name? Is this how this restaurant treats its clients?!”

The waiter’s eyes swept over Bai Qingyan’s clothes, measuring her appearance. Instantly, there was a flash of surprise in his eyes and his back straightened. “My apologies, miss, but this gentleman’s clothes are not up to par with our dress code. He cannot enter the restaurant dressed so untidily. You can go in, but he can’t!”

Bai Jian cowered in shame. After being treated unjustly for most of his life, he became increasingly numb to these situations.

But Bai Qingyan was not as soft as her uncle. She immediately took out her phone and sneered at the waiter. “Oh? His clothes are unsuitable? So that’s your attitude toward your customers… You dare treat your clients like this? Since that’s the case, let’s contact a reporter. I’m certain you’re eager to let everyone know how high your restaurant’s style is, aren’t you?”

Bai Qingyan’s anger was so intense, her hands shook. Bai Jian was her only relative. Aside from Gu Yezhi, he was the only other person she cared about. She couldn’t stand seeing him being bullied like this. As she took out her phone and started dialing, the waiter suddenly moved toward her!

“What are you doing?!” Once the waiter saw the woman take out her phone, he quickly snatched it and ended the call.

“Give me back my phone!” Bai Qingyan shouted at him, with eyes as cold as snow in winter.

Even with the mild weather they now had, the waiter couldn’t help but shiver from her icy gaze. He was so intimidated he promptly returned the phone to the woman.
