Chapter 2087: Underground Mine

Grey asked seriously, “Can this only negate the effects of the backlash of exploding your puppets on you?”

The Gnome nodded, “Yes, the backlash from the explosion is generally not too strong, but in a battle of equals, losing a bit of your strength can be detrimental to a fighter.”

Grey heaved a secret sign of relief when he heard this. Had the Gnomes found a way to completely negate the effects of all backlashes that involved their puppets, then his greatest asset against the Gnomes were gone.

This Gnome did not know the person standing before him was the infamous Grey Dawson, and even if he knew, he would still talk as he did not want to die. Seeing Grey silent, he also did not speak.

Grey processed his emotions before tossing the Gnome to the side. He stood in front of the portal, stretching his hand wide enough to touch each side of the portal, he started bringing his hands close. The portal, which was a spatial tunnel, started to shrink right before the eyes of the Gnome and the others. After only a few seconds, the portal shrunk to the size of a ball before fully disappearing like it was never there.

The eyes of the Gnome almost popped out of his head. This was the first time he was seeing someone close a spatial tunnel in such a way. One has to know that the space element was quite complex and difficult to deal with. Most people would generally strike the portal to destabilize it so the world would fix the space itself, sealing the portal along with it. However, Grey just shut it like it was a door.

Grey turned back to the Gnome and asked, “Do the two paths lead to the same place?”

The Gnome shook his head and explained, “The right path leads to the mines, whereas the left path leads outside this town.”

Grey nodded before falling deep in thoughts. He turned to his Teacher and asked, “Teacher, what do you think we should do? The mine or go after the Gnomes who left this place?”

Chris did not respond to Grey, rather, he turned to the Gnome and asked, “Is there a camp at the end of the left path?”

The Gnome hesitated before nodding, “Yes, in the mountains where that path leads to, there is a hideout for Necromancers.” Seeing the eyes of Grey and Chris, he hurriedly added, “But you can’t find the mountain on your own, as long as you promise not to kill me, I’ll…”

The Gnome was cut short as his entire body went limp before slumping to the ground. He was dead.

Chris looked at Grey and asked, “You have a way to find the hideout, correct?”

Grey nodded when he heard this question.

Chris expected this reply as he knew Grey was not a reckless person. Since they were here, he knew Grey would not want to leave without wiping out the Necromancer’s hideout. Even if Grey wanted to leave, he personally would not leave until he dealt with it. He felt a hint of pride knowing his student was not too far from him in regards to thoughts.

“Cory, you’ll stay here with Void, Teacher and I will go in to investigate the place.” Grey said as he took the lead walking to the path on the right.

Chris gave Cory a reassuring smile as he shook his head when he saw the expectant gaze in her eyes. He knew she wanted to follow them, but just like Grey, he was unwilling to endanger her, albeit Void being there to protect her.

Cory pouted at the sight of this and went to the side to sit down.

Grey and his Teacher walked for a few minutes before they soon started to hear the sounds of explosions and people speaking. He could not help but marvel at the sturdiness of this place, even with such powerful explosions, it did not shake at all.

They soon arrived at an opening, a Gnome was standing guard at the opening. The Gnome was only a Third stage Sovereign, he did not even sense the presence of the duo until his vision went black. The Gnome died without knowing what killed him nor how he was killed.

Grey looked at the large cave before him which had hundreds of Gnomes as well as humans working. To be precise, it was more of humans working and Gnomes supervising. There were also a few humans who were also acting as supervisors, and from how they looked, it was easy to tell that they were Necromancers due to their pale complexion and dried bodies.

Grey and Chris exchanged glances, understanding what they wanted, they both took action at the same time.

Grey vanished from the spot, while Chris turned into a stream of light as he darted through the underground cave.

The sudden appearance of the white light caught the attention of everyone, humans and Gnomes as they all stopped what they were doing to observe the light.

A shriek rang out from one side of the cave before a figure exploded into blood mist.

As if setting off a chain reaction, more screams followed, along with screams of horrors.

The humans working were horrified by what was happening as they could not understand what was happening. The Gnomes, understanding they were under attack, tried to take action. Sadly, the strongest Gnome in this underground cave was only a Fourth stage Sovereign, how could he go against Grey or Chris?

“Enemy attack! Call for…”

The voice of the Gnome who tried to give this order was soon snuffed out before he could complete his statement.

Grey finally took a pause, floating in the air with the Gnome in his hand. He dropped the corpse of the Gnome and it slammed into the ground with a loud thud.

It had only been a minute since both he and his Teacher made their moves, and in such a short time, they had killed almost a hundred Gnomes and Necromancers. If not for having to ensure they did not kill the humans who were mining the place, they would have been able to kill the Gnomes much faster.

Grey wanted to deal with this as soon as he could, taking a deep breath, his mental sense spread out, along it was his lightning domain that enveloped a region of almost five hundred meters. With uncanny precision, his lightning bolts shut at Gnomes and Necromancers within that region.

The weaker Gnomes and Necromancers died from the lightning attack, but those around the Third and Fourth stages of the Sovereign Plane survived the attack.

“Use your puppets!” A Gnome yelled. They had not been able to bring out their puppets due to the suddenness of the attacks and their inability to locate the attackers. Now that one of the attackers was standing still, they knew this was their only chance. They could also tell these attackers were very powerful.

The Gnomes in the Fourth and Third stages all brought out their puppets and attacked.

There were around twenty Gnomes in the Fourth stage of the Sovereign Plane, Grey knew he did not need to worry about those in the Third stage since he could not cut off so many connections at the same time. Focusing on only the Fourth stage Sovereigns, he cut off their connections with their puppets and made a move, killing them within a blink. Seven Fourth stage Sovereigns were killed before they could even make a sound. By the second attack, six more were killed. The remaining seven returned to their senses after their counterparts were dead, just as they were about to announce what they experienced, they felt the claws of death dragging their Iives out of them.

Grey attacked ruthlessly, not giving them any chance to survive. The attacks from the puppets of the Third stage Sovereigns arrived at the place he was standing at this moment.

Grey switched places with one of the Third stage Gnomes at this instant, appearing in the midst of the Third stage Sovereigns, he attacked.

As all these went on, Chris was not idle as well. He killed off the Gnomes and Necromancers that escaped from Grey’s attack, before ensuring that the shockwave from Grey’s attacks would not affect the humans mining.

A few minutes later, they stopped fighting. Every single Gnome and Necromancer that was previously in this large underground cave were killed without exception.

Looking at the hundreds of people before them, Grey did not know what they should do with them.

Seeing his student’s confused look, Chris chuckled and said, “There’s an army camp not too far from here. While you go deal with the Necromancers hideout, I’ll rush there and get someone back that can escort them there or at least to another settlement.

Grey thanked his Teacher, wasting no time, he left the cave, soon reappearing in the small opening where Cory was waiting.
