Cory saw Grey about to rush out and hurriedly stopped him, “Where are you going?”
“Teacher will come out soon with some people, assist him with looking after them while he goes out to get help. I’ll go see if there are more threats around.” Grey replied.
“No, I want to go with you.” Cory refused stubbornly as she gazed at Grey’s eyes.
Grey looked at her eyes and felt a headache, he knew his Teacher would be leaving shortly and these people did not really need Cory. However, he just did not want her to get in any danger hence the reason he did not want her to go with him.
Looking at Void, he sighed in defeat and said, “Fine, but you have to listen to my orders, got it?”
Cory jumped in excitement before nodding her head.
Grey could care less about the young lady’s appearance as he grabbed her with an arm made from his essence by the waist and bolted straight through the tunnel.
This was Cory’s first time traveling at such speed. Surprisingly, thanks to Grey shielding her from the cold wind. A few seconds later, they came out of a tunnel at the foot of a mountain. Looking around, there were multiple mountains across the area. Grey flew to a tree and stood there, he closed his eyes to try to sense the presence of Gnomes.
This was not the first time he had attacked the hideout of Necromancers, and thanks to his strange ability to locate them after he was marked, it was easy for him to find the presence of the Gnomes and Necromancers.
They were hiding at a mountain a few kilometers away from where they were standing. Taking Cory with him, he flew in the direction of the hideout.
“How can you track the Necromancers?” Cory asked as they flew over mountains and trees.
Grey did not hide it and told her of how he was marked when he first went to the Aurora Continent. He did not give her too many details, only telling her it took him a while before he was able to find a way to remove the mark. After doing that, he was able to track Necromancers pretty
Cory was dumbfounded by the information as she did not expect that the reason Grey could track the Necromancers was actually by their own doing. She felt even more admiration towards this senior brother of hers who took her in when she lost everything.
They arrived at an unassuming mountain a few minutes later and Grey landed at the mountain top. He inspected it and chuckled, “They know we’re here. It looks like someone was able to alert them of the attack there.”
Cory looked around in seriousness, understanding things were about to get dangerous.
“Void, take her somewhere she can watch.” Grey said to Void as he placed both hands behind his back and gently levitated from the ground.
Void disappeared with Cory, appearing on a tree branch almost two hundred meters away from the mountain.
Cory watched Grey with interest, curious to see how he would deal with the Gnomes alone. She knew Grey was freakishly strong and had seen him fight a few times, but that was long ago. She had heard of his strength when their father was telling Grey’s Teacher about him killing an emissary who was a Peak Sovereign while just breaking through to the Ninth stage not too long ago.
Grey levitated a few meters above the mountain top, and before long, figures started to dart out from the mountain to confront him. In seconds, almost forty figures appeared. Most of them were humans, but six of them were Gnomes.
“A human?” One of the Gnomes raised a brow. This Gnome had a rough look, and there was a long scar across his face which gave him a gnarly look.
Another Gnome looked at Grey and commented, “Just one human, to think he dared to come here alone.”
“His backup must be the ones attacking the others. Apprehend him and go assist the others.” A soft-spoken Gnome said. This Gnome wore white robes, and his hair was all white. He looked like a regular old man if not for his smaller figure and different physical appearance compared to a human’s.
Grey did not utter a word as the Gnomes discussed, he only probed their cultivation stages and other than the old Gnome who was an Eighth stage Sovereign, the rest of them were fairly weak. Two of the Necromancers were Seventh stage Sovereigns, while the Gnomes had three Seventh stage Sovereigns with the other two being in the Sixth stage. As for the Necromancers, most of them were Fifth and Fourth stage Sovereigns with only a few being in the Third and Sixth stage.
As long as they had no idea who he was, he could take advantage of them bringing out their puppets to kill them with minimal effort. The only Gnome he needed to pay attention to was obviously the Eighth stage Gnome who might have a Ninth stage Sovereign puppet. Of course he was not worried about that, since the puppets were of little threat to him.
A Fifth stage Necromancer stepped forward, “You made a mistake coming here alone.”
Saying this, he used the wind element to send out wind blades. He did not have any intention of killing with this attack as he only wanted to probe the strength of this stranger. Things suddenly took a turn when the figure arrived in front of him, and he noticed a headless body falling to the ground.
“Huh?” He felt a little confused as the headless body looked exactly like his own. Just as he was about to process what just happened, his vision went black.
The head of the Necromancer landed on the ground and bounced off a few times.
The Gnomes and Necromancers watched as the head rolled around a bit before stopping. They could still see the eyes of the Necromancer which was filled with confusion, there was no fear or pain in his eyes, only confusion.
‘He didn’t know he had been killed.’
They all knew what that look meant and those in the same cultivation stage and below all took a step back as they sucked in a deep breath. Anyone who could kill a Fifth stage Sovereign so effortlessly should at least be an Eighth stage Sovereign.
They were not the only ones who felt this way, those in the Sixth and Seventh stages knew they could not kill a Fifth stage Sovereign in such a manner. They turned their eyes to the old Gnome while they prepared to fight. What terrified them was the fact that they still did not sense Grey’s cultivation level even though he had made a move.
The old Gnome had a look of surprise on his face before shaking his head, “I was neglectful, it seems our opponent is in the Ninth stage.”
When they heard this, they all gulped. The Seventh stage Sovereigns did not show too much fear as it was impossible for a Ninth stage Sovereign to kill a Seventh stage Sovereign in such a manner, so they were at least confident they could keep themselves alive against this person for a brief moment.
The old Gnome, who was standing behind the other Gnomes, walked forward, standing in front of the others.
“Looks like I’ll have to stretch my body today. I didn’t expect I’ll have to fight a human so soon.” The old Gnome commented.
Grey looked at the face of the Gnome, not showing any reaction.
The old Gnome did not find Grey’s unresponsiveness as rude, he simply raised a finger and his puppet appeared beside him. The puppet was a Ninth stage Sovereign who gave off an overbearing aura.
When the puppet appeared, it was as if all the light around was sucked into it as darkness spread across a range of almost a kilometer.
A thoughtful expression appeared on Grey’s face as he wondered, ‘This person should’ve been on the verge of breaking through to the Peak before he was turned into a puppet.’
Seeing Grey studying the puppet with curiosity, the old Gnome explained, “When I found this guy, he was already on his last legs. He died after killing a Peak Sovereign puppet, I must admit, he was truly powerful when he was still alive.”
The old Gnome continued to speak about the puppet like his prized possession, “I helped him end his sufferings and took him in, in a few more months, I’ll finally be able to help him reach a level his talent would’ve never allowed him reach.”
Grey looked at the puppet, almost seeing the image of how he valiantly fought against a Peak Sovereign puppet when he was still alive, and how he was left in a defenseless state. His heart turned cold at the thought of this, with killing intent seeping from his eyes.
“I’ll play with you until your backup arrives.”
