Chapter 2277: Patched

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Clank!

Another sword blocked the incoming strike, stopping the sword before it cut Vandir’s head. It was another black sword, Zara’s sword. She was the only one who managed to react to the attack.

"Thank you for the save, Lady Zara."

Vandir remained playful even though he almost got his head cut off. He was not worried about dying because he was a spirit.

Rayal Saint Claire glanced at Zara before focusing back at the Death King, "Why? Why are you protecting this plague? He must be killed before he can destroy more worlds. He must be killed before more people die."

Instead of continuing his attack, Rayal Saint Claire retreated, distancing himself from Vandir. That was when he started to assess the situation.

He looked at Tang Shaoyang, and his gaze stayed longer on Tang Shaoyang because he sensed the inexplicable connection to this unknown man. The feeling that was telling him that this man was his Master. That was not limited to just a feeling, but he revered this unknown man for some reason.

Rayal was weirded out by the whole situation. His loyalty remained to his kingdom, to his King, not this unknown man.

"I have lost my control over him, Master. As you feared, my undead truly materialized into life. This is fascinating!" Vandir’s voice revealed his excitement as he walked beside Tang Shaoyang. "Let’s try with your unique energy next."

Tang Shaoyang looked at Vandir, then he looked at the Death Knight. He honestly didn’t know what to do with this Death Knight. He didn’t even know his relationship with the Rayal, whether they were formed in the Companion Bond, or the Rayal was just one of the undead under him, something similar to the Skeleton Army.

"So what’s our relationship? Does that mean he is one of my undead now, just like the skeleton? If so, why don’t I sense a connection with him?"

The issue was that Tang Shaoyang didn’t sense a connection to Rayal. He didn’t feel the same connection he had with the Skelly Family, nor the faint connection to the Skeleton Army.

"What’s the meaning of this, Vandir? What have you done to me?" Rayal raised his voice, confused by the whole situation. That was when he looked into himself and realized the difference, the change.

"Don’t worry about it, Rayal. You were dead, I killed you and revived you as my undead!"

That statement enraged the unstable Death Knight. His figure blurred into shadow, and he thrust his sword toward Vandir.

Zara didn’t need to step in this time. A shield made of bone formed in front of Vandir and received the sword strike. The bone shield burst apart, but it neutralized the attack completely.

"Calm down, Rayal. Just accept your fate."

Vandir was shaking his head, then he turned toward Tang Shaoyang, "I am not sure about your relationship with him, but it seemed he regained his memories and awareness."

Rayal kept attacking Vandir, his figures blurred, leaving a black trail in each move. But Vandir easily blocked each attack because each attack lacked the actual destruction, the actual will to kill Vandir.

"Enough!"

Tang Shaoyang had had enough of watching the clown show. That did the trick because Rayal stopped attacking Vandir.

"Huh!?" The Death Knight sounded surprised.

"I told you, you are an undead. This might refresh your memory. I killed you in our battle in the Uralia Kingdom’s capital. You try to delay me so your king can escape, but your effort is futile. I destroyed the Uralia Kingdom and conquered your world!"

Something pulsed out, moving through the veins on his sword and shields. It fluctuated faster and faster.

"But don’t you worry because I am also dead. I am just a dead spirit who serves another master," Vandir pointed at Tang Shaoyang. "We are now serving the same Master. He did something and took you from me, and he also helped you to regain your memory."

"Don’t be disheartened, we are both dead."

That earned a reaction from the Death Knight. He looked at Vandir, then looked at Tang Shaoyang. Everything was still confusing, but it was clear that the man that Vandir mentioned truly had an authority over him. He could not disobey the command from that unknown man.

The anger turned into confusion. There was too much information, as he experienced an overload of information. He fell on his knees, clutching his head. More memories returned as he was back in the battle in the capital.

The capital was overwhelmed by the undead as all kinds of undead breached. The nightmare was the fact that he had to fight his friends who had become undead. The Lich used his friends against him. The dead were quickly revived as undead, turning them against the kingdom, and he had to face them all.

"Let’s leave him alone for now. I would say he has gone through a lot. It would take time for him to recover from the grief, self-loathing, and guilt."

Vandir summoned a new Death Knight. It was very similar to Rayal, but this one felt less ominous. The death aura was less thick compared to Rayal.

"Don’t worry. I didn’t kill this one. I don’t even know his name, and I got him from a war in a random world. He was killed by the opposition, and I took the body."

The Death King glanced toward Rayal and muttered, "I choose him because I don’t want to get attacked again by my own undead. That was quite an unpleasant experience."

Tang Shaoyang glanced at Rayal, who was still clutching his head, shaking his head. That was quite a pitiful experience. If he were killed or dead, he certainly didn’t want to be revived by his killer. He could understand why Rayal broke down.

Tang Shaoyang shrugged and didn’t think much about it anymore. He just needed to make sure that he was strong enough that no one could kill him.

He directed his right hand to the newly summoned Death Knight, then he activated his skill.

"Huh?"

"What’s wrong?" Vandir asked, noticing there was something wrong. He didn’t feel the unique aura coming from Tang Shaoyang.

"The skill doesn’t work? Does that mean your unique energy is not suitable for the Death Knight?"

Tang Shaoyang shook his head, "No, not because of the energy. It’s the skill, the skill doesn’t work."

[Target invalid!]

That was the notification he got when he used the skill on the Death Knight. He tried to use the skill again, using the Chaos Energy this time. Vandir might be right about his unique energy being unsuitable for the Death Knight.

[Target invalid!]

Tang Shaoyang explained to Vandir, telling him that he also tried Chaos Energy. The result remained the same.

"The System or God. They patch the skill. It’s not supposed to work on my undead because they are spirits." Vandir quickly came up with a guess that was most likely true.

Tang Shaoyang agreed to the guess as well, "I guess it makes sense. I can use the Demonification of spirit to resurrect you guys..." He realized the implication behind the skill.

"Yeah, that might be too broken..." Vandir agreed, "They should patch that the undead remain under my control instead, but I guess that will make my army too strong. Some of my undead might even become stronger than I am if the skill is left as it is."

"It’s a pity, but it’s to balance the skill."

Vandir was quite disappointed, but did not make a big deal out of it. He tried to communicate with Rayal instead, but Rayal ignored him. The Death Knight was still in pain and did not even bother to respond to the Death King.

Not long after, his bird spirits returned, throwing a massive centipede. It was smaller compared to the serpent they found in the cold swamp, but it was massive for a centipede; twenty meters long and had the body of five adults. It had a lot of legs, long and creepy.

"It’s Rank 10 Calamity!" Envy dropped the information before leaving.

It seemed Envy was getting along well with the other birds.

Tang Shaoyang squinted his eyes, checking the wound on the centipede. He was confident that it had suffered before Envy brought it to him.

He spotted a lot of holes on the carapace as the black blood oozed out from it; the bird most likely pecked it to make such a hole. Most injuries were cracks, a lot of cracks on its body.

He could guess what happened before this centipede was brought here, shaking his head.

Tang Shaoyang used the Demonification on it, using the Chaos Energy. It fitted with more chaotic energy than his unique energy.

He was left speechless with the transformation. Just like the snake, the centipede grew an armor that covered the whole carapace, a black exoskeleton from the head to the tail. Its tail turned into something like a whip, but it had the edge of a sword. Then its legs grew, turned into a spear, and each of its legs was sharp, which left holes as it walked.

It didn’t grow wings, but it had thick armor. Thick and strong that it would not break from falling. As soon as it received the order to move toward Arnain, it burrowed into the ground and left.

It was just another traumatized Demonic Calamity.
