Chapter 1366: Firework Show

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

"What?" A dark frown appeared on Han Xun’s face. "What’s happening? Why aren’t the gates opening?"

The people around him also couldn’t help but deeply frown. This had never happened before.

Besides, everything related to the Wall could be operated only by Han Xun. If the gates weren’t opening despite him controlling the jade disk, then something might have gone terribly wrong.

Now, there were two possibilities: either the jade disk had malfunctioned or something unexpected had happened in the Nexus Hall.

At this point, some of the people standing on the battlement turned to look at Zhou Liang. After all, they had learned that the man had visited the Nexus Hall the previous night.

"Boss, is something wrong with the jade disk?" Zhou Liang displayed a ’concerned’ look on his face.

"I’m certain everything should be working fine within the Nexus Hall," he added. "I personally made sure of it when I visited it last night."

The frown on Han Xun’s face deepened. He turned to his Vice General and asked, "You visited the Nexus Hall? Why?"

"Boss, the conclusion of this great battle was upon us," Zhou Liang truthfully answered. "I needed to ensure nothing went wrong."

He paused for a moment as he noticed the suspicion in Han Xun’s eyes gradually dissipate. At last, he added, "That is why I’m certain that everything should be working in proper condition inside the Nexus Hall. If there’s any fault, then it must be the disk."

Right at that moment, a sentry’s voice echoed on the battlement:

"The enemy is getting into formation! Goro Tsuitsui and the other top officers of the army have just come out of the command tent! They will be ready in a few minutes."

Everyone’s faces grew solemn. The enemy was about to be ready for war, but here they were... unable to open the gates of the Wall. They couldn’t help but wonder if something truly ominous was at play.

Zhou Liang said in an urgent voice, "Boss, keep checking the disk! I’ll quickly go to the Nexus Hall and then report back to you!"

Before he had even finished his words, he had already left the battlement.

Han Xun, as well as the other top officers, didn’t really think much of it. As the Vice General of the army, it was natural for Zhou Liang to take the brunt of most of the work.

What they were truly worried about was... why would the gates suddenly stop functioning?

***

Zhou Liang, or rather Adam, rushed past the rows of Tiesha Tang soldiers, quickly making his way to the underground entrance of the Nexus Hall.

All is going according to plan, he thought to himself with glee.

He tried very hard to suppress the crazed fit of laughter that was about to erupt from his mouth. Instead, he showed a slightly panicked expression, causing all the other soldiers whom he passed by to feel tense.

At last, he arrived before the entrance. This time, there were no Magi standing guard.

Every Magus of the Tiesha Tang was going to engage in battle today, and so they were already standing in disciplined formations. Row after row of Magi stood with weapons in hand, eager to get their pound of flesh from the Tsuitsui forces.

But little did they know...

Adam passed through the entrance, then sealed the door shut behind him. And then, he burst into laughter.

He laughed and laughed and laughed.

He cocked his head back and clutched his hair. His lips curled into a wide, maniacal grin as he murmured:

"Val, I know you’re not here to see this, but this one is for you! Your big brother is about to light up the biggest firework you’ve ever seen!"

He quickly descended the stairs and first arrived before the pair of towering iron doors. This was the storage section he had chanced upon yesterday. He had hoped to find treasure inside, but he ended up finding something even more interesting.

After disarming the wards, he pushed open the iron doors.

And there it was...

A sea of wooden barrels was carefully placed inside. There had to be at least a hundred of them. And they were filled with black, gooey liquid.

Adam wasn’t a stranger to them. These were the very explosives that the Tiesha Tang had tried to ambush the Tsuitsui Clan with before their battle had even begun!

"Ha... haha... hahaha!" Adam burst into laughter.

This section, used to store explosives, just so happened to be right underneath where the Tiesha Tang army was currently standing!

He had planned to poison their food and water supply to make it easier for Goro and his forces to slaughter them. But it turned out he didn’t even need to do that.

"I can just blow you all to smithereens!" He cackled like a madman as his face squirmed and twisted.

A moment later, he was wearing his own face again.

The voices in his head stirred with uncanny excitement, fully aware of what he was about to do. Adam grabbed a barrel and spilled the black liquid across the floor. Then, he guided the spreading trail straight toward the Nexus Hall.

At last, he opened the gates to the Nexus Hall and fixed what he had intentionally damaged the previous night.

He then retrieved a Potion of Explosion from his ring and turned towards the chamber filled with barrels.

"The Nexus Hall is built directly under the Wall, so its defenses should be enough to protect me from the explosion," he murmured. "If not..."

He turned towards Gege and grinned like a madman. "I hope your stomach is big enough to fit me."

The mimic shuddered.

"...Gege."

"Alright then!" Adam laughed. "Let’s get the firework show started!"

***

Atop the Wall, on the battlement, Han Xun heaved a sigh of relief when he saw the jade disk in his hand beginning to function properly.

As he injected his mana, the towering gates of the Wall slowly opened, its thunderous creaking sound echoing through the Kurogane Pass.

Han Xun cast his gaze towards Goro Tsuitsui, who was standing at the vanguard of his army, and spoke with cold malice, "I will kill all your brothers before your eyes, and you will be the last to die!"

He swung his hand and roared, "Slaughter them!"

A war horn ripped through the bloody battlefield, signalling the start of the fifth, and seemingly the final day of the Battle of Kurogane Pass.

The gates of the Wall fully opened, and the two-thousand-man Tiesha Tang army let out their battle cries.

But before they could even pass through the gates, the ground beneath them trembled.

And then...

The world burned!
