The lotus in the depths of his spirit sea gleamed with a holy light. The entire sea felt denser, richer, and more orderly, as if every drop of spirit energy had been refined to its highest possible quality.
However, Adam didn’t will the lotus to ascend to the surface. No, now was not the time.
Valerian was still in deep slumber, lying comfortably on one of the round, verdant leaves. However, Adam could tell that even the dragon could sense the profound changes in his surroundings.
It looks like he still hasn’t fully healed, Adam thought to himself, his gaze locked onto Valerian’s draconic form.
Recalling the reason why Valerian was reduced to such a state, Adam’s lips curled into a faint smile.
Rest, little Val. As your older brother, it is my duty to protect and nurture you. Take as long as you need. I’ll be here for you when you wake up.
Adam willed the lotus to remain in the depths of his spirit sea, where it would be most conducive to Valerian’s recovery.
He then studied his spirit sea once more. The whole realm felt like it had ascended to a new tier, yet it had nowhere left to grow.
Adam’s soul had fully healed, and his spirit sea had transformed to the absolute peak of what a Mana Core Magus could achieve in this world!
He inhaled deeply, then exhaled. His eyes flashed with resolve. It was now time for the final step.
***
Back in the cave, Adam sat cross-legged in the darkness, his back slightly hunched and his frame unnervingly thin.
Years without food or water had hollowed his cheeks and sharpened every line in his body. His skin clung tightly to his skeletal frame, giving him a gaunt, almost spectral appearance.
The cave around him was silent and cold. The atmosphere was heavy and stagnant, as if the very cave itself was holding its breath in anticipation of what was to come.
Despite his deteriorating physical condition, Adam’s expression was calm. His mind was steadier and healthier than ever before. Although it seemed that his body was failing, his will remained unbroken. Despite the lack of food and water, mana sustained him.
Everything was focused on a single purpose...
Ascension!
In that dark cave, surrounded by madness and silence, he looked less like a living man and more like a relic carved from exhaustion. He was ready to gamble what remained of his mortal strength for the next step on the path of the arcane.
The mana within him surged in a liquid state, flowing in an orderly pattern as it formed a whirlpool in his stomach region.
Gradually, the mana in his pathways tightened its rotation. The whirlpool in his lower abdomen grew denser, faster, and more focused. It was no longer a loose flow, but a disciplined torrent of energy.
Each revolution compressed the mana further and further, stripping away the impurities and forcing the energy to refine itself. The Five Elemental Codex turned it into the purest form of mana.
Slowly, the roaring whirlpool of mana began to shrink. Adam guided the energy inside of him to contract the vortex of mana. Its diameter gradually started to decrease, while its intensity only multiplied.
But Adam’s mana was too heavy, too tyrannical.
At every step of the way, it constantly pushed back on his intent. It was like a sovereign who wouldn’t bow its head, not even in front of its creator.
However, Adam had already anticipated this.
Because he practiced the body enhancement technique, his mana had grown strong and robust. And because he practiced the Astral Tyrant Manual, the quality of his mana had turned domineering.
This phenomenon meant that it would only take more time for Adam to tame his mana. And time was all he had.
The river of time flowed without stop.
Adam continued to shrink the mana vortex inside of him. With every cycle, the pressure became higher and more intense, pushing the liquid mana past its natural limit.
After a long time had passed, a beautiful transformation started to take place inside his body.
The liquid mana slowly started to thicken after countless cycles. It first became something akin to a heavy and oppressive gel. Then, it slowly hardened into something more solid and compact.
Now, the mana had reached a critical threshold!
Suddenly, the vortex of mana collapsed inward. All of the swirling energy was dragged towards a single point, crushed under the weight of its own concentration.
And then...
A wave of power surged through Adam’s body. What had once been a rotating pool of liquid mana was no longer liquid at all.
The condensed mass of energy flickered between solid and intangible, visible and translucent, caught between two states of existence.
In Adam’s core region, an ethereal sphere slowly took form. It was smooth and stable, radiating boundless and controlled strength.
The moment it solidified, his spirit sea reacted. A deep resonance rolled through him as his mana flow immediately reorganized itself around its new center. Every mana pathway widened, and every strand of mana aligned with newfound profundity.
At the same time, something magical transpired above the Dark Valley...
The constant shroud of swirling black clouds thinned, as if unseen hands were pushing them outward. A rare phenomenon appeared, revealing a pale shaft of sunlight that pierced the darkness like a holy spear.
The usual violent and unpredictable winds calmed down for a brief moment. The terrain grew quieter, almost reverent.
Another burst of light followed, brighter this time, widening the gap in the clouds. Rays of golden light pierced the gloom of the tenebrous curtain engulfing the Dark Valley and spilled across its floor.
It was as though the world itself was offering a blessing, celebrating the birth of its champion.
The darkness above the valley split open for a brief moment, and light poured down onto the area before the cave, illuminating the ground that had not seen daylight in ages.
And within that pillar of light...
A cloaked figure hovered in the air. He held a black staff in one hand and clenched the other hand into a fist, feeling the surge of his newfound power.
Rank 4 Spell: Flight!
That was the very first spell he had cast after forming his mana core.
He had finally done it.
The little boy from Behal Town had overcome countless adversities and, step by step, risen to the pinnacle of arcane strength in this world.
On this day...
Adam Constantine had attained Magushood.
