At last, a satisfying divination result.Adam’s shoulders loosened, and he couldn’t help but reveal a faint smile.
That city, with so many magical species mingling with one another, has to be in the Greater Universe, he thought.
In any city on Tron, one can’t find more than four species. But that place... could it be Myrrandor?
If so, then the divination result has confirmed that I will no longer be on Tron after the planetary alignment!
He rose to his feet and began pacing around the cave, excited for what his future held. But soon, the excitement died down.
But that still doesn’t specifically tell me about the outcome of my battle with the abomination, he wondered.
No, to be more precise, the outcome should be positive, but there are still too many variables in play.
Should I cast another divination spell?
But gradually, Adam tried to calm down. He recalled some of the experts’ memories regarding the School of Divination and the elusive threads of fate.
Although divination never lied, it was not omniscient, nor was it absolute.
It did not reveal fixed truths or inevitable futures. Instead, it offered possibilities, shaped by currents of fate, probability, and intent.
What a diviner saw was only one thread among countless others, an echo of what may come to pass, not what must.
One’s choices could distort visions, actions could sever foretold paths, and even the smallest deviation could render a prophecy meaningless.
Adam’s lips curled into a wry smile, and he thought to himself:
I guess I’m just... a little nervous.
He was.
This was unknown territory he was stepping into. The abomination, whatever it was, wasn’t any normal creature.
He inhaled deeply and steadied his spirit.
The future is not something to be known, but something to be faced, he thought.
Isn’t that one of the reasons why I never chose to specialize in the School of Divination?
The path reveals itself only to those willing to step on it without knowing where it ends.
Having steeled his resolve, Adam consumed the last of his rations and finally left the cave.
He walked beneath the colossal ribs, each one rising like a curved pillar of bone. They formed a vast archway overhead, blotting out much of the dim light and casting long, warped shadows across the ground.
The bones were ancient, cracked, and weathered. Adam couldn’t help but wonder just who this carcass could belong to.
Perhaps it belonged to a beast that predated the arrival of the first Magi? He thought.
The ground beneath his feet was uneven, littered with fragments of bone and hardened soil. A faint pressure hung in the air, as if the remains of the creature still imposed its presence on the valley.
If it weren’t for the fact that the giant bones had been corrupted, Adam would have liked to take some with him and study them at a later date.
Alas, he couldn’t.
Moving deeper, Adam passed fully into the shadow of the carcass, and before long, he had crossed the massive grave.
What greeted him was a sea of corrupted monsters, seemingly waiting for him. And on the horizon, he could sense a colossal structure rising from the ground. It radiated an ominous, otherworldly aura.
In that moment, he realized that that structure was his destination.
That was where the abomination resided!
And this sea of corrupted creatures was commanded by the abomination to guard the structure and prevent Adam from getting close.
Just from this simple action, he deduced several details about the abomination.
Firstly, for some reason, it was unable to leave its position. Secondly, it did not want to be disturbed, or it wouldn’t have commanded this army of corrupted monsters to stop him in his tracks.
Lastly, and most importantly, there was a slim chance that the abomination wasn’t all that powerful!
Adam took a deep breath as he faced the horde ahead.
The valley floor was packed with corrupted creatures, twisted beasts, warped humanoids, and crawling masses that dragged themselves forward on too many limbs. Some hissed, some screeched, while others moved in eerie silence.
All of them were at the Mana Foundation, Mana Liquefaction, and Mana Vortex Rank.
Their bodies had dark growths, and unstable mana radiated from them. Just the air Adam breathed felt like it was heavy with corruption. Otherworldly pressure weighed down on him from every direction.
But he did not retreat.
Strangely, he found himself in a calm state of mind. Perhaps it was the divination results, or maybe it was his realization that divination wasn’t absolute.
Adam was ready for the uncertainty that lay ahead.
"The Way reveals itself only to those willing to step on a path without knowing where it ends," he murmured as he retrieved his stalwart staff.
Adam stepped forward, then broke into a charge, the Staff of Calamity gripped tightly in his hand. Mana surged through his core, and the ground cracked beneath his feet as he entered the swarm head-on.
He cast spells in rapid succession. Bolts of lightning tore through clustered enemies. Walls of flame erupted, forcing the horde apart. Adam moved constantly, advancing, pivoting, striking, casting, never staying still long enough to be surrounded.
The battlefield became chaotic. Spells collided in midair, bodies collapsed, and dark, corrupted energy dispersed into the ground. The valley echoed with roars, impacts, and detonations.
And at the center of it all, Adam stood bloodied, relentless, and unyielding as he cut a path through sheer will, arcane might, and unrestrained violence.
Time lost its meaning within the Dark Valley.
Moments blurred into days, days stretched into weeks, and weeks dissolved into months, or perhaps years.
There was no sun to mark the passage of time, no night to signal rest.
Only endless combat.
Adam fought without pauses. His staff rose and fell until the motion became instinct. The ground was reshaped by craters, scorched stone, frozen earth, mutilated flesh, and shattered bones.
When the battle finally ended, Adam stood alone amid a sea of corpses, bodies piled upon bodies, twisted and unrecognizable.
He was bruised, torn, and bloodied, barely held together by his stubborn will.
At last, he had arrived before the structure that housed the abomination.
A tomb shaped from a massive horned skull.
