When Adam said those words, the hall fell into a strange silence. To most beings, it might have sounded like stubborn pride.
To dragons, it was something else entirely.
They were creatures born of magic. They revered it, they studied it, and measured worth by one's understanding of it.
Yes, strength mattered.
But devotion to the path mattered more!
Adam's words were not about strength. They were about reverence. About loving the journey more than the reward.
It wasn't about the pursuit of happiness.
It was the happiness of pursuit.
And that... struck deep.
Zagho deeply looked at the blood-soaked human standing before him, his eyes slowly widening.
Deep emotions flickered across his topaz eyes, and in that moment, he realized that he could not defeat Adam.
In a battle of resolve, he had already lost.
The dragon's shoulders loosened, and he let out a soft sigh. "Lord Endi..."
Endi closed his eyes and nodded. "I understand."
Zagho glanced at Adam and said with a faint, approving smile:
"I yield."
Adam's one good eye slightly widened. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. But in hindsight, wasn't this exactly the outcome he was hoping for?
"Thank goodness..." he murmured weakly as all the strength in his body left him.
His legs buckled, and he fell backward. With a soft thud, he collapsed to the ground. This time, he allowed the pain and fatigue to overcome him. This time, he lost consciousness for good.
"Brother!!" Valerian slipped free from Endi's grasp and rushed to Adam's side, tears streaming down his furry face.
Meanwhile, Zagho turned and walked away. He arrived before Endi and got down on one knee. "Forgive me, my lord. I... I'll accept any punishment you deem fit."
Endi sighed, shaking his head. "It's not your fault."
"But..." Zagho looked up at the Regent, his eyes flashing with complicated emotions. "The Princess, she... she'll be furious at this outcome."
"It's fine." Endi sighed helplessly. "I've recorded the entire battle. Once she sees it, I think she'll understand."
He paused, his lips curling into a bitter smile. "If not, then..."
Right at that moment, Valerian's panicked scream tore through the hall.
Endi's pupils constricted instantly. He rushed toward the young dragon, appearing beside him at once. "Your Highness!"
The other dragons followed closely, surrounding Valerian and Adam as they rushed forward.
Valerian's body trembled in fear as he pointed his furry paw toward Adam. "Brother, he... his blood... what is going on?!"
When Endi, Zagho, and the rest fixed their attention on Adam's blood, their eyes narrowed.
Something unnatural was happening.
The blood pooled beneath Adam's body began to move. Thin strands of crimson lifted from the stone floor, stretching into tiny tendrils that slithered toward him. The blood smeared across the cracked walls loosened and crawled downward in narrow streams.
Even droplets that had splattered far from his body began to tremble. Those too distant to crawl simply vanished, only to reappear beside Adam, where they merged with the larger mass and burrowed back into his flesh.
Veins darkened briefly as the blood re-entered him. The cuts and bruises along his body twitched faintly.
The hall fell silent as the last streak of red slipped back into him, leaving the stone unnaturally clean.
"What... what is happening!" Valerian yelped. "What sort of magic is this!"
Endi had a dark frown on his face as he crouched beside Adam's unmoving body and studied the strange phenomenon.
"Healing magic?" he murmured, scraping dried blood from one of Adam's wounds with his nail as he examined it closely.
But before he could study it, the dried flake twitched in his hand. It softened, stretched into a thin crimson tendril, and slipped free from his grasp.
The tiny strand wriggled across the air and returned to Adam's body, merging seamlessly back to his skin.
Endi had never witnessed something like this in his long life.
"What is it! What is it!" Valerian pressed. "Is Brother all right?"
Endi snapped out of his thoughts and turned to the young prince. "I'm not sure,
Your Highness."
He shifted his attention back to Adam, who still remained unconscious.
Only the blood had returned. The wounds remained.
Cuts still split his skin, bruises still darkened his flesh, swelling had not reduced, and bones had not reset. There was no visible regeneration, no rapid
healing.
This wasn't recovery. It was more like... reclamation.
The blood had simply gone back to where it belonged, as if summoned by instinct rather than spell. It was as though Adam's body refused to allow even a single drop to remain outside it.
Extremely curious, Endi turned to Valerian and asked, "Your Highness, is it okay if I examine his wounds?"
He knew how protective Valerian was of Adam, so he chose to ask first. Besides, he also wanted to confirm whether Adam had transplanted Mind Dragon blood into his system. This was the perfect opportunity to see for himself.
Valerian hesitated for a few moments before reluctantly agreeing. Endi clasped Adam's wrist, then pressed two fingers on his flesh. He sent a
pulse of his own mana into the raven-haired youth's body, directing his perception into Adam's body.
He traced the flow of mana first. Then the circulation of blood. Then deeper, toward the structure of bone, marrow, and mana core.
It did not take him long to confirm what he had wanted to check.
There was no trace of Mind Dragon blood within Adam. No foreign draconic
essence, and no tampering with lineage.
Endi quietly heaved a sigh of relief.
But as his awareness continued along the currents of Adam's bloodstream,
something else brushed against his sense.
It was very subtle at first, like a shadow moving beneath deep water.
Then he felt it.
Something vast. Something ancient.
It flowed silently within Adam's blood. Not dominating it, not altering it, simply
present. Watching.
Endi frowned and intinctively focused on it, attempting to study its nature.
But the moment he did...
A surge of otherworldly dread flooded his mind. It was not pain, it was not an attack. It was simply an overwhelming awareness of something far beyond him. Endi recoiled instantly, snapping his senses back to him. A drop of sweat trickled down the side of his forehead, and he felt his heartbeat rising.
"What is it!" Valerian pressed.
Endi snapped out of his shock and turned to Valerian. He forced a smile and
said, "Everything is fine, Your Highness. He is... recovering"
Valerian sighed in relief.
Meanwhile, Endi shifted his attention back to the sleeping raven-haired youth.
<>And in the depths of his topaz eyes...
There was fear.
