Adam lay sprawled atop a floating bookshelf, his gaze distant. He had been thinking about his answer for almost a day.
A part of him burned with greed. The knowledge. The treasures. The countless resources Magus Mathias had gathered over his long lifetime. All of it within reach. All of it enough to make him unrivaled on this planet.
He wanted it.
Every last bit of it.
But another part of him felt something else...
Respect.
Mathias the Free had stood at the edge of a greater arcane path, yet he had chosen to turn back. He had not cared about advancing further. He had cared about the world that raised him. The soil that nurtured him. And the
generations that would come long after him.
That resolve... was not something Adam could easily dismiss.
He heaved a long, helpless sigh and slowly sat up.
"Dragonshit..."
His lips curled into a smile.
Adam rose to his feet and softly called out, "Sir Joker"
The flamboyant spirit of the spirit plane appeared behind him. "So... have you come to a decision?"
Adam, with his head lowered, nodded ever so slightly. "Yes."
"So what's it going to be, lad?"
The raven-haired youth's lips opened and closed several times. His hand clenched and unclenched. His heart ached from what he was about to say.
But in the end, he did what he thought was right. He respected his predecessor's wishes.
"...The treasures of the Soaring River Secret Plane were meant for the young Magi of Tron," he said slowly.
And as he said those words, he felt as if his shoulders started to loosen from discarding the unseen weight he had been carrying.
"I have no right to lay claim to all of it," he added as he slowly raised his head and straightened his posture.
"Magus Mathias left it all behind for the future generations of Tron, and I... I will respect his wishes."
He turned around and looked the Joker in the eye.
"I don't want it. Any of it," he said. "That is my answer"
The Joker remained silent for a long time, intently gazing at the youth. Then slowly, his lips curled into a faint smile, and then a wide grin, and then... "FAFAFAFAFA!!!"
The entire Soaring River Secret Plane faintly trembled.
Nielk's hand shot out and pressed firmly against Adam's chest. A faint light traveled up his arm and flowed into him.
The transfer of ownership was instantaneous, catching Adam by surprise.
In that moment, a torrent of information flooded the youth's mind.
He understood every little detail of the secret plane. He knew the exact location of each child that had entered it, the terrain of every region, which plants grew where, which beasts roamed which territories.
He knew the layout of the grand library and the brief contents of its countless books. He understood how the House of Cards operated, how its mechanisms shifted and responded.
He sensed the Great Vault, its defenses, its locks, and the vast horde of gold, jewelry, artifacts, and treasures stored within.
The knowledge settled into him as if it had always belonged there.
In that instant, Adam became the true master of the Soaring River Secret Plane!!
He couldn't help but subconsciously retreat a couple of steps. He clutched his forehead, his eyes widening in disbelief. He "recalled" the contents of the Great Vault, his back drenched in cold sweat.
"So... so much gold!!"
There was enough treasure in there to rival empires. Even the gold he was rewarded with from the Raven Inheritance paled in comparison.
The Joker wasn't lying when he claimed that acquiring all that gold and treasure would make him the wealthiest man in the world!
But there was something else within the vault that took Adam by immense surprise. When he realized what it was... he turned breathless.
He gulped nervously and asked in a shaky voice, "T-Those blue gems... don't tell
me..."
"Fafafa!" The Joker laughed out loud. "Let's go!"
"H-How? What do you mean?" Adam was so stunned he couldn't even think
straight.
"Foolish lad!" The Joker yelled. "Teleport there! How else? And take me there with you. I can no longer teleport freely in the secret plane. You're the master
of it now, or did you forget already?"
"I-I mean, how?" Adam gulped. "How do we get there?"
The Joker placed his hand on Adam's shoulder and grinned. "Just visualize, young lad! Ask, and ye shall receive! Fafafa!"
"A-Alright." Adam nodded.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He visualized the interiors of the Great Vault, and then...
The two vanished.
***
Adam and Nielk landed on a mountain of gold and jewelry.
The Great Vault stretched endlessly in every direction. Piles of gold coins rose like dunes. Gems of every color lay scattered in glittering heaps. Necklaces, crowns, and jeweled rings were stacked carelessly as if they were pebbles.
Ancient artifacts and racks of enchanted weapons lined the walls. The sheer scale of it all was overwhelming. For a brief moment, Adam felt his mouth go
dry.
But that was not what occupied his thoughts.
Without hesitation, he slid down the slope of gold, coins clattering and
cascading around him. He sprinted toward the far edge of the vault, past the glittering treasures, eyes fixed on something else entirely as light reflected off the wealth surrounding him.
Adam skidded to a halt before a massive heap of blue gems.
They were uneven in size, some big while others small. Their surfaces were
rough and unpolished, yet they shimmered faintly from within.
But what made them extraordinary was not their appearance.
It was the energy.
Each gem radiated pure mana!
Raw, dense mana compressed into crystalline forms. The air around the pile felt
thicker, heavier. It hummed faintly, and faint currents of magical energy
brushed against Adam's skin like a living thing.
He gulped nervously and said, "Is that... what I think it is?"
"Indeed." The Joker grinned. "Mana crystals!"
Adam's heart skipped a beat. And then another.
He stared at the large heap of mana crystals before him, his figure trembling
slightly as the implications sank in.
For a long moment, he couldn't look away.
Then, with visible effort, he finally turned to Nielk. He then asked in a slow and
unsteady voice:
"How many times... do you think these could charge the portal on the moon?"
