Chapter 1606 Another Witness

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Almansour continued questioning Helene in front of the entire square, pressing her for every detail he could uncover.

His voice remained firm as he forced her to explain exactly how the operation worked and what role she had played in it.

Under the stunned gazes of tens of thousands of people, the truth slowly came to life.

Helene admitted that she had acted alone within the academy. No other members of Clover Academy had been involved in the scheme. In fact, they were oblivious to it.

For years, she had secretly identified promising students, children without any proper backing, and discreetly sent their names to the Cult. From there, the agents of the Cult would take over.

The chosen children were quietly transferred to hidden camps scattered across the Southern Federation. In those secret facilities, they were subjected to indoctrination and brainwashing before being turned into operatives loyal to the Cult of Bones.

Each revelation sent fresh waves of shock through the crowd.

But as the interrogation continued, another fact became increasingly clear... Adam Constantine had never been one of those children.

Helene had never sent him to the Cult. She had never recruited him, trained him, or placed him under their control. At most, she had merely reported the existence of a talented boy whose abilities had caught her attention.

With the evidence now laid bare before the people of Ravenfell and the entire Empire watching the broadcast, one conclusion could no longer be ignored...

Adam Constantine had never grown up under the influence of the Cult of Bones.

And if he had ever been connected to them at all, it hadn't been through Helene Godfrey.

Once Helene had finished her testimony, and it was established that Adam had no connection to the Cult during his upbringing, the Magi of the Black Legion stepped forward.

Before the stunned crowd, they placed mana-sealing cuffs around her wrists and ankles, binding her in chains.

Helene did not resist.

Under the shocked and dazed gazes of everyone present, the former Headmistress of the Clover Academy was escorted off the platform and led away, down into the dungeons beneath Ravenfell.

A subtle shift began to spread through the crowd.

The way people looked at Adam was no longer the same. The anger and uncertainty that had filled their eyes earlier had begun to fade, replaced by doubt and unease.

Even the Magi from the viewing platforms exchanged thoughtful glances.

If Helene's confession was true, then the story they had believed for years might not have been the full truth.

Slowly, the realization took root among them that something far greater - far sinister - might have been at play all along.

The master of ceremonies scanned the crowd and saw the changes in the people's expressions. Truth be told, something inside of him had begun to shift as well.

At last, he turned to Adam. He noticed that the youth stood upright and confident, seemingly not at all concerned that the first charge against him had proven to be baseless.

Almansour's lips parted, and he asked in a low voice:

"Magus Constantine, would you like to add something?"

Adam's gaze shifted to the master of ceremonies. Then, he turned his attention to the crowd.

"I solemnly swear on the mana within me that I was not raised by the Cult of Bones. And I was not trained by them to act as a spy and gain the Empire's trust."

After Helene's testimony, his oath felt like the final nail in the coffin.

The murmurs that followed amidst the crowd were no longer filled with anger, but with uneasy realization.

For the first time since the hearing began, a growing number of people began to believe that Adam Constantine might truly have been wronged.

Before the hearings moved on to the next charge, Adam turned to the master of ceremonies and said in an even voice:

"Almansour, let me ask you something"

The Court Magus gulped subconsciously before nodding. "Go ahead."

Adam's eyes narrowed ever so slightly.

"For all the evidence you ask of me to prove my innocence... tell me this, do you

have any evidence that proves my guilt?"

In that moment, Almansour's eyes trembled, and he froze in shock.

The question struck him like a sudden blow.

And he wasn't the only one.

Beside him, even Magus Lovelace's expression shifted as the implications of Adam's words sank in.

For the first time, the foundations of the accusations themselves seemed to

waver!

Because Adam had just pointed out something that, strangely enough, no one

had stopped to question.

All this time, everyone had demanded proof of his innocence.

But no one had ever produced proof of his guilt...

Both Lovelace and Almansour arrived at the same conclusion:

Was magic involved?!

Nylian stepped forward and said, "Please proceed with the second charge

brought against Adam."

Lovelace turned to the Headmaster of Saratoga and instantly realized that the

elf surely knew something about it.

Almansour snapped out of his shock and deeply looked at Adam. He then

continued in a loud voice:

"Magus Constantine, do you admit to the accusations brought against you that you committed treason against the Empire during the Battle of Ravenfell?"

Adam raised his chin slightly and declared, "I do not."

This time, the crowd's reaction was different. The same words that had once ignited rage now met a far more restrained response.

The people no longer erupted in a fury of disbelief. Instead, a wave of hushed chatter spread through the square as many watched him with cautious eyes. After the first charge had crumbled under scrutiny, the certainty that had once

fueled their anger had begun to fade.

Almansour gulped, his voice turning quieter.

"Do you have evidence suggesting otherwise?" Adam remained silent as he slowly closed his eyes.

Seeing that reaction, Almansour couldn't help but frown slightly. "Well? Do you

have evidence proving your innocence?"

"YES, HE DOES!!"

A booming voice echoed from the crowd.

The moment Adam heard that voice, he opened his eyes and his lips curled into

a faint smile.

Across the square, thousands of heads turned toward the source of the shout.

Pushing through the crowd was a small group of people. The one leading them

was a ginger-haired man- the very person who had just spoken.

It was none other than...

Lebu Potts of the Twilight Brotherhood!!
