Chapter 1609 Heroic Presence

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Adam's words carried over the crowd.

When they faded, no one spoke for a long moment.

Many of the citizens of Ravenfell lowered their heads. The anger that had filled their hearts for decades seemed to have collapsed all at once, replaced by something far heavier.

Shame crept across countless faces as the truth finally settled in. Some people covered their mouths, their eyes turning red. Others openly wiped tears away that they could no longer hold back.

For forty-five years, they had cursed the man standing before them. They had called him the Deceitful One, blamed him for the tragedy that had scarred their city, and carried that hatred like a banner.

Across the square, quiet sobs began to appear among the crowd as the

realization cut deeper than any accusations ever had.

The Dark King they had once adored... was the very man they had wronged the most.

Adam scanned the change in reactions, his gaze sweeping through the crowd.

He drew a slow breath before speaking again, his voice steady but filled with genuine emotion.

"I do not regret it," he said. "The hatred, the accusations, the decades of suffering... I do not regret carrying them."

He looked out over the sea of people.

"As a man... perhaps it is my duty to bear such burdens. If someone must shoulder the anger and resentment, then let it be me rather than the people I care about."

His voice softened, his lips curling into a faint smile.

"I have never blamed you. Any of you. Not once. Because you were victims too, just as much as I was."

Adam paused before continuing:

"I love this city. I love its people. Ravenfell has always been my home. And no matter what the future holds... I will do everything in my power to protect it."

The crowd that had once shouted in anger now stood motionless. The hostility that had filled the square earlier had melted away, replaced by guilt and quiet grief.

For decades, they had hated him. And yet the man they had condemned was standing before them, declaring that he still loved their city, and would protect it with everything he had.

But despite all the evidence that had cleared his name, Adam could still sense a faint hesitation in the crowd.

The hatred that once burned in their eyes had faded, but something else had taken its place.

Uncertainty.

It was especially clear among the Magi of the Black Legion.

They no longer looked at him with blame or anger, yet neither did they welcome him as they once had.

But Adam had already expected this.

The bond that had once united them had been broken for too long, and trust was not something that could be restored with words alone.

Forgiveness had begun to take root.

But acceptance had not yet followed.

Adam stood silently for a long moment before speaking again.

"A great war is on the horizon," he said in a steady, grim voice. "One that may

engulf the entire world in a storm of blood and fire."

His solemn gaze swept across the sea of people.

"Perhaps the last time a war of such scale took place was during the Doom of Feypore."

A heavy wave of whispers passed through the crowd.

"We must be prepared," said Adam. "And we already know our enemy."

His eyes widened slightly, and he raised his voice.

"It is the same heinous Cult that took the life of our beloved Second Emperor... and the former Headmaster of Saratoga, Marcus Blackwood! As well as

countless other brave souls who fell in the Battle of Ravenfell."

Nylian's gaze flickered with grief as he listened to those words. Meanwhile, standing amid the crowd, the towering figure cloaked in the dark hooded robe heaved a soft sigh.

"I do not say this to fill your hearts with fear. I say it out loud so that you may be ready for what is to come!"

Adam's voice rose yet again.

"The Cult of Bones does not seek power alone. They seek dominion over the world. They would conquer every land and sacrifice billions of innocent souls

to achieve their goal."

He clenched his fists.

"And that is why we must stand against them!"

Adam's dark eyes blazed with resolve.

"We must fight for our home! We must fight to protect our loved ones! And we must fight for this world!!"

As if one que...

A sharp trumpet blast suddenly echoed from the direction of the Harbor

Quarter.

Then another followed.

And another.

Within seconds, a chain of warning trumpets began to sound across the

waterfront, their urgent notes carrying through the city like a rising alarm. The echoes bounced off Ravenfell's stone walls and towers, spreading rapidly from

the harbor toward the inner districts.

The signal was unmistakable.

Enemies were approaching from the Galestine!!

A wave of panic spread through the crowd.

People turned toward the distant harbor, their earlier emotions replaced by confusion and growing fear. Whispers turned to shouts as the people tried to understand what was happening.

Daniel Ranzenberg suddenly appeared on the viewing platform, a dark look on his face. He arrived beside Nylian and said in a grim voice, "It's not looking

good."

Several dark silhouettes slowly emerged on the eastern horizon, flying rapidly

toward the city.

Nylain's expression darkened as he counted them.

"There are seven of them!" he exclaimed. "The same number the Cult sent

during the Battle of Ravenfell!"

"What?!" Lovelace felt the color drain from his face as he gazed eastward. "Why... why are they suddenly here?!"

Adam's calm voice echoed through the platform and also across the public

square.

"I told you all," he gently said, his voice carrying a soothing effect. "This is my home. And I will do everything in my power to protect it."

"Adam, you-" Nylian was about to warn him that fighting seven Mana Core

Magi alone was too much even for him.

But right at that moment...

Adam's simple tunic and trousers faded away, quickly replaced by black,

enchanted garments.

Then, a flowing black cape appeared over his shoulders, its hems fluttering in

the wind, giving him a supremely heroic presence.

As the crowd watched his appearance change, their eyes were wide with

disbelief.

"Headmaster, please return to the castle, in case something happens there," Adam calmly said, without turning around.

"Magus Lovelace, please remain in the city with the Lord Marshall. The two of you will deal with any enemies should they slip past me."

"What... what are you trying to do?" Lovelace asked in a shaky voice, unable to

believe what he was witnessing.

Adam's lips curled into a smile as he placed his trademark black, pointed hat upon his head.

"I am going to reclaim my legend.&quo;
