Chapter 1608 Never Betrayed

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The entire square went silent.

No one spoke, and no one moved. They all stared at the platform with wide eyes. The words hung over the crowd like lightning that had frozen time itself. And then... the shock began to spread.

Across the sea of people, faces twisted with disbelief. Some stared blankly at the platform as if they had misheard. Others turned toward their neighbors as they tried to make sense of what they'd just heard.

On the viewing platform, even the most composed Magi were shaken. They stood rigid, their eyes flickering with astonishment as the implications sank in.

The Battle of Ravenfell, the tragedy that had scarred the city for decades, had never been about Adam's betrayal.

It had been about capturing him.

And suddenly, a terrifying thought began to take root in everyone's minds.

If the Cult had attacked Ravenfell to capture Adam... then the man they had cursed as the Deceitful One for forty-five years had never been their enemy at all!

On the platform, Almansour felt his figure tremble. His eyes flashing with rage, he rushed to Uther Bowman and viciously grabbed his collar.

"What are you trying to say!" He roared, his heart overwhelmed by emotion. "Tell us! Tell us why the Cult wanted to kill Headmaster Blackwood and the Second Emperor?! Fucking tell us!!"

Lovelace would have asked the master of ceremonies to compose himself, but he himself found it difficult to control his emotions.

Nylian Feno turned to the raven-haired youth and thought with complicated emotions:

The truth is finally coming to light, Adam.

Is this what you envisioned?

Once the people come to learn about the Cult of Bone's true objective... the continent will be thrown into chaos.

Are you prepared?

Adam remained silent on the viewing platform. He could sense countless gazes directed toward him, some filled with shock and disbelief, while others filled with tears and shame.

His gaze remained on the eastern horizon, where the Galestine met the skies. Soon, his eyes narrowed.

Standing somewhere in the packed square, the towering figure, cloaked in the dark hooded robe, too, turned around.

His piercing golden eyes narrowed, and he thought:

They're coming!

He sensed several powerful auras rapidly approaching the city. In but a few minutes, they will have arrived.

And then... Adam Constantine's true trial would begin.

"Answer me!!" Almansour roared on the stage. "Why did the Cult kill them! Marcus Blackwood... Gerald Acadia... they... why!"

Uther Bowman remained dazed for a few moments before finally speaking. "Obstacle..." he murmured.

"The Acadian Empire... is the biggest obstacle in the Cult's path to world domination. One of the primary reasons... the Battle of Ravenfell was fought... was to cripple the Empire."

Almansour froze.

His expression darkened, the weight of those words pressing heavily on his chest.

What he had heard just now was no small conspiracy.

It was

scheme aimed at destroying the very foundation of the Empire!

Slowly, his grip tightened around the man's collar as the true scale of the Cult's ambitions began to dawn on him.

"And Adam Constantine?" Almansour spoke in a shaky voice. "Why is the Cult so intent on capturing him?"

Bowman shook his head.

"I don't know..."

He paused briefly before continuing:

"The Cult Leader... gathers promising seed from... all across the world. What he does with them... no one knows. And Adam...he is one of... if not the most

talented Magus... to have ever... walked this earth..."

Among the ordinary citizens packed in the main square, stunned whispers spread rapidly. Many stared at Adam with new eyes, their earlier hatred now tangled with disbelief.

To them, the idea that the Cult had targeted Ravenfell just to capture him felt almost unimaginable.

On the viewing platform, the powerful Magi reacted far more sharply.

They understood the implications far better than the crowd below. If the Cult Leader truly gathered the most talented individuals across the world, then Adam wasn't simply a victim of circumstance.

He was a target.

And if Bowman's words were true, then the Battle of Ravenfell had not been

fought because of Adam's betrayal...

It had been fought because of his potential!

Across the Empire, the countless people watching the broadcast felt the same shock ripple through their hearts.

In city plazas and squares where communication artifacts relayed the hearing, people stared at the glowing projections in stunned silence.

The narrative they had believed for decades was unraveling before their very

eyes!

Uther Bowman, however, wasn't finished. His lips parted, and he continued:

"A magical artifact... a very powerful one... was used toward the end of the Battle of Ravenfell. This artifact... it subtly warps the minds of its targets... altering their memories... making them accept a lie as the truth... "Only... the survivors of the battle... needed to be affected... by that artifact. They would then spread... that knowledge... throughout... the continent. And soon... the world would believe... the lies."

Magus Lovelace's eyes widened.

"Is that why...." He gulped subconsciously. "Is that why everyone believed Magus Constantine to be the traitor despite no evidence suggesting his guilt?!"

Uther Bowman nodded slowly.

"Why would you need evidence... when in your mind you already believe it to be the truth..." Almansour's stunned voice echoed through the city.

Bowman nodded again.

"The true target... of that artifact was... Adam Constantine. It was to make him believe... that he was raised by the Cult... that he was always part of the Cult. That would have ensured... that he made his way to the Cult Leader... of his

own accord. But..."

"But what?!" Almansour pressed, gnashing his jaws in fury.

"He somehow... overcame the effects... of the artifact," Bowman finally concluded. "He did... the impossible."

His shoulders slumped, and he collapsed to the ground, seemingly having lost all of his energy just from speaking for so long.

The crowd stared at the fallen man, their faces pale as the final piece settled

into place. The revelation struck the crowd harder than any shout or

accusation ever had.

Across the viewing platforms, many of the Magi now understood what the

crowd was only beginning to grasp.

Adam had never betrayed Ravenfell.

He had been the target.

Throughout the city, and across the Empire where the broadcast was being

watched, the same realization spread like wildfire.

Adam Constantine had not been a traitor.

Right at that moment, the youth in question stepped forward and personally

addressed the crowd as well as everyone in the Empire.

He inhaled deeply, then said in a dignified voice:

"I, Adam Constantine solemnly swear on the mana flowing within me that I

have never betrayed Ravenfell. I have never betrayed Saratoga Castle. And I

have never betrayed the Acadian Empire."

His gaze swept across the citizens of Ravenfell, his tone softening.

"And you... I have never betrayed any one of you."
