Chapter 1662 Way of the Necromancer

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Lightning crackled across Edward's body like a living, breathing thing.

What is... happening to me?

His thoughts seemed slow. Or were they too fast for his mind to fully comprehend? He didn't know.

Something changed inside of him, something he couldn't quite understand.

As he lay in the small crater, watching the dark clouds gather in the night sky, he felt like he had fallen into a sort of trance. Drunk on power, he quite... enjoyed the feeling.

He was only now beginning to truly understand his power, his Innate Physique, and the mana extraction technique that Adam had gifted him in his youth.

Storm Bringer was built around three elements.

Lightning, air, and water.

It aligned perfectly with Edward's own natural affinity for lightning. But it did more than just draw mana from his surroundings. It... changed him.

The technique reshaped how his body handled power, turning him into a living conduit. And now, as he pushed closer to his true potential, that change was finally becoming clear.

Forming the mana core and finally attaining Magushood had served as the catalyst.

And then everything changed.

Lightning coursed through him constantly.

It ran through his cells, driving them harder, faster. His movements sharpened, speed rising beyond normal limits. The current reached his brain, accelerating his thoughts, cutting down the gap between perception and action. It surged through his muscles, tightening them with energy, giving each strike more force than before.

Edward wasn't just using lightning anymore. He was becoming something shaped by it.

If it had been anyone else, lightning coursing through their muscles and organs would have killed them in seconds. Their nerves would burn, organs would fail, and the body would give out under the strain.

But he was different. After years of practicing Storm Bringer, his body had adapted. It didn't resist lightning. It accepted it. Of course, his Innate Physique also played a major part in this.

What should have destroyed him now moved through him smoothly, almost naturally.

"I am... lightning."

Those words subconsciously escaped his lips as sparks flickered across his piercing blue eyes.

He pressed his hands against the edges of the crater and pulled himself out of it. To him, his movements looked slow. No, perhaps, time itself had slowed down for him.

Edward's body was utterly bruised and bloodied. He emerged from the blackened crater and steadied himself. He finally raised his head and cast his gaze toward the new enemy, just in time to see the man weave the last of his hand seals.

Rank 4 Spell: Summon Undead!

Mana poured in waves as Murphy called forth his undead army.

His shadow deepened, then spread outward across the ground. A moment later, bony hands clawed their way out of the darkness, dragging themselves up before rising to stand.

Then came the rest...

Skeletal soldiers, rotting zombies, twisted undead forms, one after another, they emerged, filling the field with cold, lifeless bodies. And at the center of it all, two towering figures rose last.

Rank 4 Undead Knights in solid armor stepped forward and took position at Murphy's side.

The Cultist's aged face was visibly drained of color. Summoning every last of his undead army, including the knights that stood at the Mana Core Rank, took a considerable amount of mana.

Now that he had finally revealed his trump card, he was about to go all out. He had to.

Three beings at the Mana Core Rank, hopefully four, should be more than enough to take care of the brat. Just thinking about it wounded his pride. But on the battlefield, in a matter of life and death, such insignificant things did not matter. Only survival did.

With a ferocious look on his face, Murphy swiped his hands forward and roared.

"Finish him!!"

At his command, the undead army surged forward like a dark tsunami of rot and death.

More than a hundred of them moved at once, closing in on the Storm King. Over a dozen of them carried the aura of the Mana Vortex Rank, their movements sharp and fast. The majority were at the Mana Liquefaction Rank, forming the bulk of the force. While the rest at the Mana Foundation Rank filled the gaps and pressed the attack without pause.

From the flanks, the two Rank 4 undead knights broke formation and rushed in, their heavy and rotten armor rumbling with each step as they rushed to trap

Edward in between.

Meanwhile, Murphy stayed back. Hidden behind his army, he let his undead minions fight in his place. Such was the way of the Necromancer.

And just to be sure... he activated one of his artifacts. Mana poured into the

chain around his neck, and a moment later, his figure rippled like the surface of an ancient well that had suddenly been disturbed. Soon, his presence was

concealed completely.

Edward's mouth hung open slightly, saliva trailing down his chin, as if he didn't even notice it.

In front of him, he saw the undead horde come at him, their eyes gleaming with hunger and their jaws reeking of death and rot. He saw everything. He could even see two towering, dark figures breaking off from the sides of the hoard in

an attempt to flank him.

He saw it all.

But to him... they all seemed so slow.

Seconds stretched to minutes, and minutes stretched till infinity. He could see the ground tremble slowly, the dust rising up. He could see the madness radiating from the undead horde. And he could also see the two knights closing

in on him.

Edward raised his head to the dark skies and witnessed a bolt of lightning surge through the clouds, branching off into several more streaks of lightning.

It was beautiful...

He raised his hands, effortlessly forming a few simple hand seals. Energy coursed through his mana channels, flowing smoother than ever before. The lightning around him danced in joy, as if welcoming this newfound change. Six brilliant orbs of lightning formed behind him. Three on either side. They hovered in perfect alignment, circling him like a divine halo. The air around them crackled, arcs of blue linking to one another, forming a complete ring.

For a moment, the world seemed to come to a standstill.

And then...

The Storm King thrust his hands forward.

Rank 4 Spell: Thunderfall!
