Goro Tsuitsui stood at the edge of the battlefield and inhaled deeply."Smells disgusting," he said with a light frown.
Despite knowing that the enemy leaders had noticed him, he did not care. He was languid as ever. So what if they spotted him? What were they going to do? Attack him?
What a joke.
He turned to his left and watched the thousands of undead try to break through the city's defenses. Just watching those ugly things put him in a sour mood.
"Jiangshi," he muttered darkly.
There had been cases of such creatures appearing in the lands governed by the Unorthodox Faction several years ago. But these creatures disappeared just as abruptly as they had appeared.
Goro felt a natural aversion toward the undead horde. It was a surreal experience, for he had never witnessed anything like this back in Yen-Lu.
Then he shifted his focus to the right. There, he saw sea of green. "Orcs," he said with slight fascination.
According to the history books, such creatures used to reside in Yen-Lu a long time ago during the warring era. But, of course, they had all been exterminated. This was the first time he was seeing one.
At last, his gaze locked onto the towering undead knight and the robed figure mounted atop a wild boar beside it. Goro instantly knew these were the enemy leaders, beings at the Mana Core Rank.
The one in dark armour, however, radiated a much more dangerous aura than the other one. Goro's lips curled into a smirk. That was exactly who he was going to battle.
As he took a step forward, flexing his shoulder muscles and cracking his knuckles, a voice drifted into his ears, echoing directly within his mind.
'Refrain from using poison, Goro. I sense more allies incoming!
Goro paused. He turned his gaze toward the city. More specifically, to the hooded individual hovering above the city's barrier with a staff and a lantern in his hands.
He let out a helpless sigh. "Fine, fine."
Then he tied his hair into a knot, muttering under his breath. "I have more than one method to defeat the enemy. I have several, in fact."
His eyes narrowed, gleaming with supreme confidence.
"I am the smartest man in Yen-Lu, after all."
Boom!
The ground beneath his feet caved in, forming a giant crater as chunks of stone and debris scattered in all directions.
Goro's figure turned into a blur as he bolted straight toward the orc army. Within a heartbeat, he had already plunged through their ranks. Dozens of orcs turned to paste and mist just from colliding against his burly figure.
Dark green blood sprayed in the air as the Venom Dragon plowed through the orcs. He wasn't even using any spells. Nor was he using any combat techniques.
He was simply... moving.
The orcs, however, thought differently. They felt as if a mountain was hurtling through their ranks. It didn't matter if they were at the Mana Foundation, Mana Liquefaction, or Mana Vortex Rank. The moment they made contact with Goro's speeding figure, they ceased to exist.
Within a few moments, the Venom Dragon had scaled the vast distance and already arrived before the cultist and the undead knight.
Osbert had his eyes wide in sheer disbelief. A chill crept down his spine as he saw the giant figure of Goro Tsuitsui nearly upon him. The Venom Dragon's eyes seemed to glow with a predatory green light, and the smile on his face... it was as if butchering scores of orcs was like a fun hobby to him.
Before he could even react, he felt a tight gauntleted grip on his shoulder.
The undead knight, cold and emotionless as ever, tightly grabbed Osbert and flung him far away. And the very next moment, the Venom Dragon crashed into the knight.
With another thunderous sound that echoed across the battlefield, Goro viciously grabbed the undead knight by the neck and dragged him into the distance.
Kasper, who was standing on the northern wall, felt his jaw nearly touch the ground. "Wh-What... what is happening?"
The hooded figure in tattered robes arrived before them. He levitated above the undead horde, his back facing the Amberfall Magi.
Kasper and the others were initially alarmed as they saw this newcomer. But the following moment, they noticed that the ancient lantern in the person's hand glowed with a dim light.
Following that, the undead monsters' minds turned sluggish, and they started falling back to the ground one after another. There were close to five thousand undead creatures, and not all of them were affected by whatever the lantern just did. But a good portion of them now remained motionless.
The figure in tattered robes turned around and gazed at Kasper. Then, he gave
a faint nod.
Kasper snapped out of his senses and quickly barked out orders to his men. Immediately, streams of fire swept through the undead ranks at the base of the wall, burning them to a crisp.
With the help of the mysterious figure's lantern, a large portion of the undead were immobilized. After that, it was just a matter of Kasper and his men hurling one spell after another to deal with the creatures.
There were a lot of monsters, and it would take them a while to deal with all of them, especially considering that they were undead. But with the newcomer by their side, the Amberfall Magi truly felt that everything was under control now. The battle on the ground wasn't the only place where the winds had shifted.
High up in the night sky, another powerful ally had arrived.
Valerian phased in and out of illusion as he provided support.
Balthazar was pale and grievously injured, but with the young dragon's help, he managed to keep the two cultists at bay.
Holden was in a far better shape than his partner, Diggory. The latter had just lost a Rank 4 undead knight. Not only had its death dealt a backlash to him, but its sacrifice had also been in vain. After all, Balthazar was still alive.
Both cultists knew that in order to kill him, they had to first get rid of the dragon. But dealing with the dragon was proving to be far trickier than they'd
expected.
Suddenly, all four of them froze in their movements.
The air suddenly felt cold. It felt sharp. It felt suffocating.
And then, under the pale glow of the twin moons, plum blossom petals drifted
through the air!
