The ground trembled.Slowly, at first. But then the intensity increased so wildly that it felt no different from a small earthquake.
"They're here." The Hermit let out a quiet sigh of relief.
The timing couldn't have been better. They were just about to face the enemy commanders, and after how brutally the Hidden Ruler had just shattered their confidence, they needed to show a strong front.
And what better way than to unite with powerful allies from afar?
"Unbelievable!" Blackfire Balthazar was shocked.
Although he and the other commanders had been briefed by the Hermit about the finer details of Operation Constantine, he still found it difficult to believe that allies had truly arrived from across the Galestine.
The sheer logistics involved in this grand endeavour made his scalp tingle.
One by one, the commanders turned around, facing southward. There, they saw a vast curtain of cloud rising on the horizon. Then a dark line gradually appeared where the lands touched the sky.
As the army grew closer, the Union soldiers started to panic, thinking they had been surrounded by the enemy. But right at that moment, several commanders stepped forward and roared at the top of their lungs:
"Reinforcements have arrived!"
As those words echoed in the air, realization slowly started to creep into their hearts. And then they saw it. As the tide of soldiers approached closer, their proud banners became visible in the morning light.
The Acadian Empire.
Saratoga Castle. Tower of Daybreak. Greenfield Ridge. Coral Cove.
Countless other arcane institutions and Magus houses of Acadia.
Elven bannermen of the reclusive Baja High Forest had also come.
The sovereign of the Nahua Continent was present as well, accompanied by all the continent's major factions.
And that was not all…
For the first time, the people got to witness a banner they'd never seen before: a crescent moon cradling three five-pointed stars nestled within its curve.
The Twilight Brotherhood had emerged from the shadows and revealed itself to the whole world!
And that wasn't even the most shocking part…
A portion of the reinforcement forces consisted entirely of wild beasts!
Thousands of animals surged across the land in a savage tide, their roars and cries shaking the heavens. Leading them were dozens of Mana Core-level beasts whose very presence radiated danger.
At the very front of the beast army was a two-tailed fox, its fur as pale as moonlight. Wherever she passed, the beasts followed without hesitation, as though obeying a sovereign of the wild itself.
When the experts from Yen-Lu laid their eyes upon this powerful beast, they instantly recognized her. Their eyes were wide with shock.
Kitsune of Mount Hoshigane!
In a stunning display of military might, the great houses of Acadia, the mighty clans of Nahua, and the savage beasts of Mabi had united for the first time in the history of this world.
The incoming reinforcement army, along with the surviving soldiers of the Union, was vast enough to rival the enemy host in number.
What had once been an overwhelming disparity was rapidly disappearing before everyone's eyes. And they were coming with unstoppable momentum.
The thunder of countless hooves rolled across the battlefield like a storm, banners snapping wildly beneath the boundless azure sky as the massive allied force rode forward.
The moment the Union soldiers realized they were no longer outnumbered, the entire army erupted in thunderous cheers.
"Tron! Tron! Tron!" They screamed at the top of their lungs.
Exhaustion, fear, and despair were swept away in an instant, replaced by renewed hope and fighting spirit.
But on the opposite side, the atmosphere within the Empire and the devil armies turned increasingly grim. The confidence they had carried moments ago began to slowly waver as they watched yet another massive force join the battlefield.
The Hidden Ruler watched the reinforcements arrive on the battlefield with piqued interest. He was really looking forward to the chaos that would soon ensue.
Volgron, the azirai leader, watched everything unfold with an indifferent look on his face. No matter the size of the enemy's armies, he was certain that he would emerge victorious in the end. His devils were superior and had years of battle experience. The devils thrived in war.
The Cult Leader, however… Though he said nothing, the flames flickering erratically in his sockets told a different story. The Elders of the Inner Circle behind him voice his feelings.
"Impossible!" Marden blurted out in shock.
"This…" Leland was at a complete loss for words. "How can this be!"
"These different factions," Alain Grey began, his tone full of disbelief. "How could an army this large cross the Galestine and regroup so quickly!"
Volgron turned to the cultists, his eyes narrowing. He sensed something must have terribly gone wrong for even the Elders to lose their composure in such a way. And when he gazed at the lich and noticed how silent and cold he looked, the devil confirmed his suspicions.
The enemy had managed to out-scheme the Cult Leader!
It would appear that the enemy has some brilliant minds in their midst, the devil mused.
From what I've heard from Magus Govax, the lich has been secretly planning to sacrifice this planet for over two thousand years. And yet, the enemy has outmaneuvered him somehow.
Suddenly, amid the thundering of hooves and the cheers of the enemy, the Cult Leader spat out a single word, his tone cold and full of darkness.
"Portals."
In that moment, everything clicked into place. They realized why all the portals except for the one in Aranal had stopped functioning.
"It can't be!" Marden shook his head, his eyes trembling. "Did the enemy… did they somehow manage to connect the portals?!"
"That is the only thing that makes sense," the Wind Lord said with a grave look on his face. "It would explain why the other portals didn't work. It would also explain how the factions from different continents were able to arrive in Europa so quickly."
"But," Marden began, refusing to believe those words, "that would mean the enemy has built an additional portal on this continent! They couldn't have possibly used the one below Aranal!"
As the cultists tried to make sense of the sudden turn of events, Leland's communication artifact lit up. And when he heard the words from the other side, his face instantly turned pale. At first, he refused to believe it. But more and more people began relaying the same dreadful intel to him through the artifact.
"Master!" He called out, his voice laced with urgency.
The Cult Leader turned toward the Stone Lord, his aura turning oppressive and cold by the second.
Leland inhaled deeply, his eyes trembling. Then, he relayed the news in a low, shaky voice, "I've just received word from multiple sources… our coastal cities along the eastern seaboard are under attack!"
He paused, still struggling to comprehend how such a thing was even possible. Then his next words struck the cultists like raw lightning.
"The merfolk have launched an assault!"
