"There are five individuals that we need to pay extra attention to."Volgron's solemn voice echoed in the command tent. With less than half an hour left for the battle to officially begin, he needed to ensure that the commanders of the army knew exactly what they needed to do.
The Cult Leader did not protest to the devil taking the lead on this. In fact, the lich didn't protest to almost anything. He was a very stoic individual. If anything, his subordinates, the three Elders, were the ones to show disapproval of Volgron taking the reins.
"The gnome and the wolf," the devil continued. "Especially, the wolf. You all must be wary of it. It's a dangerous beast."
Hearing those words, Leland, the Stone Lord, couldn't help but frown. "Berger Glynhorn's mount? If anything, we should be focusing more on him than his beast."
Alain Grey, the Wind Lord, nodded in agreement. He then said:
"That gnome is a master of illusion magic. Even as a Mana Vortex Magus, he was able to cause a lot of trouble for us. If I recall correctly, back when he was still active within the Brotherhood, he managed to escape from Mana Core Magi on several occasions."
"They don't call him the Ghost of Twilight for no reason," Marden, the Blood Lord, concluded.
"You three listen to me." Volgron's voice turned cold and dark.
"That wolf is more dangerous than the gnome," he added with a frown. "Do not question the instincts that I have cultivated over a lifetime of bloody war!"
The devil's condescending tone caused the three Elders to scowl. They turned to their master, the lich who stood silently at the head of the table. When they noticed that he had nothing to say, the three couldn't help but begrudgingly relent to the devil.
Volgron harrumphed in displeasure. Usually, he was a devil who had decent control of his emotions. However, after seeing the enemy commanders' display of power, he couldn't help but begin to feel the anxiety gradually weigh down on him.
All along, he believed that this world would eventually be conquered. He was confident in his ability to command, as well as the prowess of hundreds of thousands of devils under him.
But after coming face to face with the commanders, a fine crack had appeared in his confidence. And that was why he was so solemn and furious.
"That man they call the Hermit," he continued. "Beware of that strange lantern he carries. I believe it is something related to the School of Enchantment. However, I cannot be sure."
"So if we separate him from the artifact, he should be easy to kill?" A devil asked curiously.
Volgron remained silent for a few moments before shaking his head. "I cannot be certain. Be cautious of him, with or without the lantern. He gives me strange vibes."
He inhaled deeply, then continued, "Then there is the leader of the Allied Forces. He's strong. Arguably, the strongest among our enemies. So, I'll take him—"
But right at that moment, Tian Di's cold chuckle echoed in the tent. Everyone turned to him and saw that he was leaning casually against the table and smoking from his pipe.
Tian Di's eyes narrowed as he glanced at the azirai leader, "Did you mistake my silence for tacit approval of your leadership?"
Volgron's face twisted into a scowl. "Do you have a problem with it, human?"
"And what if I do?" Tian Di's aura flowed from his figure in waves, making the surrounding Magi instantly turn pale and retreat a few steps.
The devil deeply looked at the Hidden Ruler, his eyes gleaming with irritation and anger. However, he knew this was no time to give birth to any kind of conflict. And so… he relented.
"So you wish to lead?" He said in an even voice.
"Lead?" The Hidden Ruler scoffed. "I don't care enough about you lot for that."
"Then what the fuck do you want!" Volgron snapped, his voice rising despite his efforts to suppress his rage. The man was truly beginning to get on his nerves.
Tian Di exhaled a plume of smoke to the side, then put away the pipe. A strange light gleamed within his eyes, something he had not felt since the day he had conquered every power in Yen-Lu.
Fighting spirit.
He coldly stared into the devil's eyes and said, "I will fight that man."
Volgron couldn't help but frown. "You… wish to take on the enemy leader?"
"Do you not understand the human tongue?" Tian Di shot back with a question.
However, this time the devil did not lose his temper. He slipped into deep thought as he played various scenarios in his head. If he were to leave the Acadian Emperor to someone else, then perhaps he could deal with what he considered an even greater threat.
He did not know the true extent of the Hidden Ruler's strength, but judging by how calm the man had been when the Dark King had suddenly attacked, he believed the man was not weaker than him or the lich.
Even if he falls short, I can have one of my people assist him, Volgron mused.
When it came to the number of Mana Core Magi, the devils and cultists combined outnumbered the Allied Forces.
"Very well." Volgron turned to the man and nodded. "He's yours."
He inhaled deeply, then said, "Now…"
His gaze involuntarily found the Cult Leader.
"The matter of the Dark King," Volgron continued.
"From what I've heard, he can summon an army of snakes, and from what I've witnessed personally just now, he has a good grasp of teleportation. In short, he is a master Summoner."
His gaze swept across the tent, and he noticed how uneasy the cultists had become just from hearing the man's name. A flicker of disdain flashed in Volgron's eyes. At last, his gaze settled back on the lich.
And this time… the lich was staring right back at him, the green flames in his eyes burning cold and fierce.
Volgron understood, and he nodded.
"You will fight the Dark King," he said solemnly.
His gaze swept across the tent once more, and he concluded:
"The battle between the Apprentices will ultimately be decided by the outcome of the battles between Magi. The sooner we slay our opponents, the sooner we can return to support our army."
He then glanced at the devils inside the command tent, a dangerous grin slowly forming on his lips.
"And now, another world stands before us. Break their army. Crush their hope. Show these mortals why Hell is feared across the universe."
