Chapter 1775 Order and Chaos

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Seconds bled into minutes, and soon, the time of battle had arrived.

Across the battlefield, the full might of the devil army had revealed itself. Three hundred thousand devils stood in terrifying formation, stretching like an infernal sea.

Beside them marched over one hundred and fifty thousand cultists and Magi of the Haynam Empire. Though many still bore injuries from the previous day's slaughter, their eyes burned with fanatic madness.

Bandaged soldiers gripped blood-stained weapons, while wounded Magi continued channeling spells as though oblivious to the pain. For the first time since the founding of the cult, its leader was personally fighting alongside its members.

So how could these cultists, who practically worshipped the lich, not be excited?

Above them, the skies had become a domain of the winged devils — the azirais, imps, and spikewings. On this vast battlefield that prevented the use of Flight, these winged devils held a great advantage.

A deep, thunderous war song suddenly rose from the devil army.

Hundreds of thousands of voices chanted in unison, their guttural and ancient language echoing across the battlefield like the hymn of Hell. The sound alone sent chills crawling down the spines of countless Allied soldiers.

Then came the drums…

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

Massive war drums pounded like the heartbeat of Hell itself, shaking the ground beneath everyone's feet. Trumpets blared soon after, their deafening cries rolling across the sky and drowning out all other sounds.

Behind the war lines, enormous war machines were dragged into position. The devils loaded giant catapults with boulders, corpses of those who had fallen the previous day, and other grotesque ammunition.

Massive ballistae were raised toward the heavens, while siege towers groaned forward like the advent of some ancient towering beast. The entire battlefield seemed to shudder beneath the sheer might and discipline of the infernal army.

In comparison, the Allied Forces appeared far less imposing.

On their side, many soldiers could not stop their hands from shaking. Some gripped their weapons tighter, while others subconsciously swallowed dryly as cold sweat rolled down their backs.

Their armies had only recently united, and many of these factions had never even fought alongside one another before.

Unlike the devils and the cultists, whose every movement resembled the workings of a single monstrous entity, the allied troops still carried traces of division and unfamiliarity.

The formations of Acadia differed greatly from those of Nahua. The warriors of Yen-Lu fought differently from the Magi of Europa. As for the beasts… well, they were fundamentally different from everyone else.

Their signals, marching rhythms, and battlefield habits were bound to clash.

The devils moved with terrifying discipline and precision. On the other hand, the Allied Forces looked like several great armies standing together rather than one truly unified force.

And the difference could not have been clearer now that both the armies finally came face to face.

However…

With the critical intelligence the Dark King provided regarding the devils and their ideology, the commanders managed to devise a simple yet potentially devastating countermeasure.

Of course, they only had an hour, and there was only so much they could prepare. But even so, they genuinely believed it might work.

If Hell represented oppressive order, then Tron represented wild freedom.

Essentially, this war had become a clash between order and chaos!

With the allotted time finally up, and the Mana Core Magi from both sides departing the battlefield for their respective battlegrounds, the war finally began.

A deafening horn thundered across the battlefield, signalling the start of the battle.

At once, the winged devils soaring through the skies released their bowstrings in unison. Thousands upon thousands of arrows screamed through the air like a raging storm descending from the heavens.

On the ground, massive scorpio war machines fired as well, launching gigantic bolts powerful enough to tear through hundreds of soldiers at once.

Within mere seconds of the battle officially beginning, the skies above the Allied Force were swallowed beneath a dark blanket of arrows.

"SHIELDS UP!!"

At once, countless generals in the Allied Force screamed at the top of their lungs.

One by one, the Magi weaved a simple Mana Barrier above them. The defensive spell may have been weak in the face of countless arrows falling from the heavens, but when hundreds of thousands of Magi came together and combined the same spell, the result was astonishing.

The beasts of Mabi, who couldn't cast these spells, took shelter under the gigantic Mana Barrier covering the entire Allied Force.

In the blink of an eye, the army of nearly five hundred thousand strong was blanketed by a thin, blue layer.

Just as the ominous rain of arrows descended upon the Allied army, something spectacular happened.

"FIRE AWAY!!"

The dwarves of Acadia roared, thier eyes gleaming with dark fascination.

Massive ballistae roared to life from the rear lines as gigantic arrow-shaped constructs shot into the skies.

Dwarven Spinshields!

The heavy projectiles spun violently as they flew, the metal fins and bladed rings around their shafts rotating at terrifying speeds. In midair, they transformed into whirling walls of steel.

Clang! Clang!

Clang! Clang!

In an awesome display of dwarven creativity and engineering, the incoming arrows shattered upon contact or were violently deflected away as the Spinshields tore through the storm like unstoppable drills of steel and fury.

Almost half of the arrows were destroyed midair, while the rest had their momentum severely weakened as they fell toward the giant blue sea of Mana Barrier below.

But the Spinshields did not stop there…

After ripping open paths through the blanket of arrows, the dwarven spinning constructs crashed directly into the enemy formations.

The impact was catastrophic.

Devils were torn apart instantly as the rotating blades ripped through flesh, armor, and bone alike. Entire lines were violently pierced through as the gigantic spinning weapons carved bloody paths across the battlefield before finally exploding into showers of steel and shattered earth.

On the side of the Allied Forces, the vast majority of the devils' arrows had been blocked by the Spinshield and the Mana Barrier, though some inevitably slipped through the dual defences and claimed several lives.

However, it was but a drop in the ocean.

In the first exchange between the two armies, the devils undoubtedly suffered greater casualties.

But the infernal army did not falter. Another deafening horn thundered across the battlefield, and a second volley was unleashed. The skies darkened once more as countless arrows descended alongside flaming boulders, giant scorpion bolts, and mounds of corpses.

In response, the Allied Force reacted immediately.

The dwarven war machines roared again, launching another wave of Spinshields. At the same time, hundreds of thousands of Magi poured mana into the massive defensive barrier that stretched overhead.

Explosions erupted nonstop across the skies. But this time, both sides had adapted. The casualties in the second exchange were noticeably lower.

Then, for the third time, the infernal trumpets thundered across the battlefield.

And this time…

The devils charged forward!

The entire devil army surged forward like a tsunami of black and red, shaking the earth beneath their advance. Winged devils descended from the skies while massive fiends and armored abominations barreled across the land with terrifying momentum.

But in response…

The Allied Force did something strange.

A loud horn suddenly echoed across their side of the battlefield.

One by one, the generals of the great army screamed at the top of their lungs:

"Retreat!!"
