Beams of necrotic energy streaked wildly through the air.One after another, they relentlessly honed in on Adam's fleeing figure, twisting unnaturally through the skies as though alive. Wherever the beams passed, the air distorted, the earth withered, and creatures were drained of moisture and vitality.
Against the backdrop of the chaotic battlefield, the sorry figure of the Dark King weaved between the incoming necrotic blasts at terrifying speed as the lich and his two monsters pursued him from behind.
He frantically searched the battlefield for his weapon. Alas, amid the carnage, that task seemed no different than finding a needle in a haystack. He had confidently entered the battle with his newly acquired weapon, but he had lost it only after the first few exchanges. Worst yet, unlike his previous staff, this one couldn't return to him when he called for it.
Dragonshit, he cursed indignantly.
Fighting bare-handed is still the most practical—
His thoughts came to an abrupt halt when his senses sent him intense warning signals yet again.
The youth's eyes narrowed, and he quickly rolled to the side, barely managing to evade the abomination's attack in time.
He had only just managed to get back to his feet when the other abomination arrived before him and unleashed a ferocious barrage of hammer-like punches with all six arms.
Adam used only his uninjured hand to block some of the incoming punches. However, one arm could never contend against six. In the end, he was brutally overwhelmed by the abomination's attacks. Yet even while being mercilessly battered, he still seized the momentum behind the blows and forcefully hurled himself away from the monster.
Blood burst from several wounds across his body as he flew across the battlefield. He crashed heavily onto the ground before quickly forcing himself back to his feet and fleeing toward the edge of the vast and chaotic battlefield.
In the meantime, the Cult Leader continued to relentlessly pursue him and cast one long-ranged spell after another. Adam was able to dodge most of these spells. The real problem, however, lay in the terrifying speed and endurance of the abominations, which completely contradicted their massive frames. Despite their enormous size, the two monsters moved with horrifying agility and relentless persistence.
In the chaotic chase across the battlefield, it was actually the abominations that were inflicting the most damage upon him.
The battlefield was so huge that it would take Adam at least a few more minutes to reach its edge. But in a high-stakes battle like this, a few minutes was more than enough to determine life and death.
As he continued to flee, Adam made sure to continuously circulate mana toward the gaping hole in his hand. More precisely, he was using mana to stimulate and reinforce the blood flowing around the injured area.
In his past year and a half spent battling Magi and monsters across Europa, he had learned a thing or two about the strange blood coursing through his veins. More precisely, it had to do with the regenerative properties brought about by his blood.
Ever since his transformation, Adam's body had begun passively recovering from injuries at a noticeably faster rate than before. Additionally, any blood he lost would eventually and unnaturally return to him.
But during his battles over the past year, Adam had discovered something else.
If he deliberately ciculated his mana around an injury and forcefully willed the wound to regenerate faster…
It actually worked.
The flesh would rapidly reconstruct itself, blood vessels would reconnect, and wounds that should have taken a long time to heal could recover within moments.
However, the price was immense.
Not only would his mana reserves rapidly deplete, but his stamina would also be heavily drained in the process. Forced regeneration placed tremendous strain upon the body.
And the greater the injury or the quicker he wanted it to heal, the more mana and stamina he would be required to expend. Furthermore, since he had only just recently discovered this ability, he was still highly inefficient at fueling his regeneration. As a result, far greater amounts of mana and stamina were wasted in the process.
That was why he had refrained from accelerating his regeneration ever since the battle with Rekan and his shadowkins. He knew that there would eventually come a time when he would desperately need it.
Besides, he had only ever experimented with regenerating injuries, whether minor or severe. He did not believe he was capable of regenerating entire lost limbs.
Not yet, anyway.
After repeatedly clashing against the two abominations and narrowly evading the lich's relentless spells, Adam finally carved a bloody path to the edge of the battlefield.
His body was covered in wounds, his breathing was heavier, and blood continuously dripped from several injuries. But despite everything, he had managed to arrive at his destination.
Seeing that the undead creatures and the serpents around him had grown extremely scarce, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
A rather strange reaction considering the two abominations and the Cult Leader were still relentlessly pursuing him…
He turned toward them, his gaze locking onto the fast-approaching figure of the lich. The corners of his lips slowly curled upward, and he revealed a menacing grin.
"Whoever said needing both hands to cast a spell?" he sneered.
Hearing those words, a foreboding feeling welled up inside the Cult Leader. He slowed his advance and adjusted the grip on his spear.
At the same time, the Dark King raised his uninjured hand and weaved a simple seal. Following that, an arched gate faintly materialized around him before quickly solidifying.
The lich viciously hurled the spear straight toward the youth.
But by then, Adam had already teleported away.
The spear pierced through empty air at the exact spot where Adam had been standing just a split second earlier, before finally plunging deep into the ground far in the distance.
Having lost their target, the two abominations stopped in their tracks and then turned to the lich in confusion.
The green flames visible through the lich's helm constricted. His senses surged outward like a raging tide as he searched for Adam's presence. While at the same time, he couldn't help but wonder…
Has the boy's understanding of the School of Summoning reached such a degree that he only requires one hand to cast spells?
The fact truly astonished him. Even he, a lich who had studied the dark arts for more than two thousand years, still required both hands to cast spells from the School of Necromancy.
Soon, the green flames flared brightly as he finally located his target far beyond the rolling plains and hills.
***
After teleporting several times and making enough distance between himself and his pursuers, Adam finally came to a stop and focused his attention on his injured hand.
That was a close call!
He thought as he recalled how he had nearly been caught by the lich and his monsters on more than one occasion.
Adam gritted his teeth and began forcefully accelerating the healing process, just as he had researched and practiced.
The flesh around the wound rapidly twitched and squirmed as blood vessels reconnected themselves. Fresh blood began clotting at astonishing speed while torn muscles gradually pulled themselves back together.
But such forced regeneration came at a high cost…
Adam's already exhausted body screamed in protest as both mana and stamina were rapidly consumed.
The entire process took nearly a minute. By the end of it, he had grown visibly pale. However, his hand had completely healed!
He slowly rose back to his feet as he clenched and unclenched his restored hand a few times. He then turned toward a certain direction, where he sensed three powerful presences rapidly approaching him.
The Cult Leader and his monsters were almost upon him.
Adam inhaled deeply, then exhaled a breath of turbid air.
"Alright, then," he murmured as his eyes grew solemn. "Time to try that out."
He quickly weaved a set of hand seals, sacrificed a crimson crystal, then pointed two fingers to the sky. A magic circle materialized at the tips of his fingers. Then, several Great Fireballs shot from the magic circle and soared into the sky.
