The lich's green flames blazed through the gap in his helm.He gripped the spear so tight that his gauntlets started to groan. But no matter how much strength he applied, the blade of his weapon just wasn't able to reach the Dark King.
As the space around the Dark King trembled, the youth looked the lich in the eye and spat a single, cold word:
"Scram."
And then, the lich felt a wave of vertigo assault his senses as gravity itself betrayed him. In the blink of an eye, he was launched backward. His armored figure smashed through countless undead creatures and serpents alike as he was hurled more than a hundred meters away from Adam. The same was true for the two four-headed monsters. They were catapulted in two different directions.
Adam's tenebrous eyes flashed with a ruthless light. He quickly cancelled the spell and applied strength and mana to his lower body. The ground beneath his feet trembled in anticipation.
Separating the three of them was very crucial for his next move. He couldn't allow them to continue to fight him together. That would put him in an extremely disadvantageous situation, given how impeccable the teamwork between them was. The lich was already astonishingly powerful enough on his own. Adding two unkillable monsters to that equation? That was a recipe for disaster.
And that was exactly why he had to sever the lich's connection with his monsters. He had to exile them!
The ground beneath Adam exploded as he shot toward one of the abominations. This was the perfect opportunity to sever the Cult Leader's connection with the monster. The three of them had finally been separated by a considerable distance. But this also meant Adam had to move fast.
Extremely fast.
He had to exile the abomination before the lich could regroup with it.
Under normal circumstances, Adam would have used teleportation to instantly close the distance. But in such a densely packed and chaotic battlefield, doing so would have been extremely dangerous.
The area was overflowing with violently fluctuating mana from countless undead creatures, serpents, and the lingering aftereffects of the clash between Adam and the Cult Leader. Spatial stability across the battlefield had already become heavily distorted.
A single miscalculation in teleportation under such conditions could result in catastrophic consequences. At best, he would emerge in the wrong location. At worst… he could directly materialize inside another creature.
Besides, even setting those things aside, Adam was under a lot of stress at the moment. He didn't know if he could truly teleport accurately to the desired location. So he chose the next best alternative.
The Dark King tore through the battlefield like a blazing comet. Undead creatures and serpents alike were blown apart the moment they entered his path. Some were crushed beneath sheer force alone, while others burst into bloody fragments from the shockwaves trailing behind him.
A trail of mangled corpses and shattered bones was carved straight through the chaotic battlefield as he relentlessly charged toward the abomination.
Two seconds.
That was all it took for him to finally arrive before his target.
Adam gritted his teeth, his dark eyes gleaming with urgency. By the time he stepped into the attack range, the abomination had already steadied itself and was ready to fight.
Sphere of Resonance worked on overdrive, and the world around him turned slow.
Six giant fists enlarged in his vision, each of them carrying the strength to pulverize a hill.
Adam utilized the Phantom Dance, gracefully weaving through the attacks as if he were a drunken butterfly.
He used his wrist to swat away one punch, a backhand to redirect another, and an elbow to deflect a strike away from his torso. Then he took one step. Then another, as he parried three more punches.
And just like that, he arrived directly before the monster.
Gotcha!
Dense mana swirled around his palm as he violently thrust it straight toward the monster's torso. One touch.
That was all he needed to exile the creature to the depths of the spirit world.
But at the last possible moment, his senses detected movement. Not from his surroundings. But from within the abomination itself!
The monster's stomach suddenly tore open, revealing a grotesque maw filled with black jagged teeth. Then, from the depths of those vile jaws, a sharp bone spear violently shot outward.
Splat!
Adam's expression twisted into a grimace as the bone spike pierced his palm.
At the same time, the abomination rapidly retreated away from the raven-haired youth, moving almost as though it had been possessed. Then countless undead creatures — skeletal soldiers, zombies, flesh golems, and rotting monstrosities — swarmed Adam's location and threw themselves at him without hesitation. Before long, dozens — if not hundreds — of undead creatures had mounted atop the Dark King.
Then, somewhere across the battlefield, the Cult Leader raised a gauntleted hand and formed a simple hand seal.
BOOOM!!
The undead creatures piled atop Adam fiercely exploded into rotting flesh, shattered bones, and blackened blood. The sheer force of the blast obliterated nearby serpents and undead alike, while the earth itself was blasted apart beneath the epicenter.
A towering pillar of necrotic flames and corpse fragments rose into the sky.
This was one of the most infamous spells from the School of Necromancy.
Rank 4 Spell: Corpse Bomb!
The four-headed abominations regrouped with the Cult Leader without issue, much to Adam's dismay.
"Did you truly believe I wouldn't know what you were trying to do?" The lich's cold words echoed across the battlefield as he arrived near the site of the explosion. The two monsters flanked him on either side, ready to move at a moment's notice.
"All those cultists you slaughtered across Europa," the lich continued, "the abominations you fought and destroyed within the Four Great Prisons… I observed everything."
The two monsters beside him got into a combat stance. The lich spun the spear in his hands and readied himself as well. He then added in a cold voice:
"I have studied every technique, every habit, every instinct you possess, Constantine."
"Then you should know the Corpse Bomb isn't enough to take me down."
Adam's arrogant words echoed in the air.
As the dust from the explosion settled, his bloodied figure slowly became visible. Although the lich's previous spell had done a number on him, it was nearly not enough to slow him down. He was used to the pain, anyway.
Besides… his injuries were slowly but surely regenerating as he spoke.
"Is that so?" The lich was suddenly amused. "How are you going to cast spells with that gaping hole in your hand?"
Adam raised his chin slightly before revealing a cocky smile. "Wanna know how?" he asked.
The Cult Leader immediately grew wary.
But Adam's next action caused him to momentarily freeze.
The Dark King turned around...
And ran.
