Chapter 1849: Lesser Creature

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The blue light from the spell illuminated Dorian’s pale face.

His eyes squinted in annoyance. Even so, his left hand shot forward and grabbed Adam’s wrist, pushing away the trajectory of the incoming spell

Boom!

The [Magic Missile] shot past the vampire’s ear and blasted a tree trunk at the edge of the clearing.

Had the spell actually managed to meet its intended target, the vampire’s head would surely have exploded.

A simple spell, but with a great devastating effect.

Dorian’s back was drenched in cold sweat. His crimson eyes found the human’s tenebrous ones. There was a flicker of surprise in those dark eyes.

"I must say," Adam began. "Of all the men I’ve fought in this new world, you, by far, are the most adept."

"And you are quite arrogant even among the humans I’ve slain," Dorian said as his grip around Adam’s wrist tightened.

His other hand shot toward the human’s hand that was grabbing his throat, clamping down on the wrist as well, and pinning him to the spot.

"Pride has been the downfall for many great Magi, human." Dorian’s eyes turned cold.

Right on cue, Louis appeared beside them, a feral look on his face. His hands were swirling in dark energy as they swiped toward the human’s face.

"Die!" He let out a guttural growl.

Adam’s expression turned solemn.

He twisted his body expertly, making efficient use of the limited space available to maneuver.

Countless years of the monk’s reaction training surged through his mind, turning his response into pure instinct.

With a swift grappling technique, he swept Dorian’s feet off the ground, spun at lightning speed, and hurled the vampire straight at Louis.

Louis awkwardly crashed into his brother, and together they were pushed back in a graceless heap.

Meanwhile, Adam quickly retreated several steps.

He was not entirely unharmed, however. Dark purple handprints had formed around his wrists, a clear indication of how strong Dorian’s grip had been. Had it not been for his sturdy physique, the vampire might have shattered his wrists.

"Quite the teamwork y’all have going on," he said, his hands blurring as they wove seals.

He inhaled deeply, filling his lungs. Then, he exhaled with all his might.

[Mana Needles]

A torrent of shimmering blue needles burst forth from his mouth and surged toward the brothers.

The two vampires immediately split apart, darting in opposite directions to evade the spell.

Adam’s eyes narrowed, and he secretly began preparing another spell.

With a slight turn of his head, the ongoing spell changed direction. The swarm of [Mana Needles] curved through the air and chased after Louis.

Trees exploded into splinters, and boulders were riddled with holes. The needles tore through every obstacle in their path with terrifying force and precision.

Louis cursed angrily as he weaved through the woods at full speed, the relentless spell hounding him at every step of the way.

On the other side, Adam’s senses flared, warning him of the impending doom. Half a dozen [Black Crescent Blades] cut through the air and arrived before him in the blink of an eye.

He was forced to cancel the [Mana Needles] and evade. He could tell that those curved black blades were sharp enough to cut through trees. He couldn’t allow even a single one of them to hit him.

The raven-haired youth narrowly dodged the vampire’s ranged spell... only for Dorian to appear like a ghost at the very spot Adam had dodged toward.

Dark energy swirled around Dorian’s claws as he went in for the kill.

Just as the sharp claws were about to pierce through Adam’s body, he activated the other spell.

[Like A Mole]

The ground beneath Adam softened, and he burrowed underground. Like a mole, really. There was no better way to describe it.

Dorian’s claws ended up swiping through empty air. He cursed in frustration. A flicker of unease gleamed in his crimson eyes.

He can dual-cast!

At another part of the clearing, the ground caved in, and Adam emerged, unharmed.

"You guys are good!" he praised.

Over a dozen miles across from him, the two vampire brothers regrouped. Dorian’s expression grew increasingly grim. He had already realized that Adam was not someone they could contend with, even together.

Louis, on the other hand, was utterly furious. Never in his life had he suffered such humiliation. And at the hands of a human, no less.

"You fucking lesser creature!" he growled.

"A lesser creature?" Adam smiled smugly. "Well, this lesser creature has you by the balls now, hasn’t he?"

He stood with arms akimbo, threw his head back, and laughed.

He laughed and laughed and laughed.

"You fucking—" Louis gnashed his jaws in rage and hatred.

Right at that moment, Dorian held him by the arm and shook his head. Then he sent him a [Mind Whisper].

’We must retreat,’ he said mentally. ’We cannot defeat him.’

Louis snapped his head toward him, eyes bloodshot from rage. "What! Are you—"

His words got caught in his throat. At the same time, Dorian’s eyes widened in shock.

They felt a violent disturbance in the mana around them.

[Amplify Gravity]

Suddenly, the world grew heavy.

Their knees buckled, and they lost their footing.

From the corner of his eyes, Dorian saw a figure appear behind them like a ghost, one hand covered in violent, tyrannical mana.

When did he...

He didn’t have enough time to think.

Gathering all the strength he could muster, Dorian lunged forward and shoved Louis aside.

The attack meant for Louis struck him instead.

[Coiling Palm Strike]

BOOM!!

Adam’s clawed hand slammed into Dorian’s back. At the moment of impact, he twisted his palm.

Flesh and muscle were torn apart. Dorian’s spine was brutally injured as he was hurled through the air, spinning uncontrollably.

Cold blood gushed from the mangled wound on his back. He shot straight through Adam’s figure standing in the clearing. The figure dissolved into smoke and vanished.

[True Illusion]

With another deafening crash, Dorian slammed into a tree, snapping it in half before miserably falling to the ground.

"Dorian!!" Louis screamed in agony.

That attack was meant for him. Yet his brother had sacrificed himself to protect him.

Rage, hatred, and all other negative emotions bubbled up inside of him as he turned toward the culprit. "How dare you—"

[Infuriate]

Louis’ mind turned momentarily sluggish, and suddenly he felt all his emotions twisting into unprecedented rage. And all of it was directed at the person responsible for his and Dorian’s current predicament.

"Die, you!!"

Blinded by the enchantment magic, Louis sprang to his feet and pounced at Adam — the real Adam. He swung his hands violently, with no care for spells or mana augmentation.

"Die! Die! Die!"

Adam calmly evaded all of Louis’ attacks. At the same time, he kept an eye on Dorian.

A vampire’s physiology is truly something, he remarked inwardly.

The Hand of Doom technique from earlier should have obliterated Dorian’s upper body, but the attack had barely destroyed the flesh and injured his spine. The vampire was still alive. Though momentarily incapacitated.

Time to finish this.

His eyes turned cold.

Adam swatted Louis’ hands away, kicked him in the groin, and shoved him back. His hands blurred, and he cast another spell.

[Blinding Light]

An agonizing scream escaped Louis’ lips as he frantically retreated while covering his eyes.

Adam’s spell was harmless. It only obstructed the target’s vision. But light was the bane of undead creatures like vampires. He was sure that the spell must have done quite the number on Louis.

For his next spell, he poured a considerable amount of mana into it.

Then he coldly swiped his hand vertically.

[Blade of Emanation]
