To say Adam was stunned would be a severe understatement.
His spirit sea was always under the divine protection of the Eternal Soul Lotus. No being could enter it without his permission. Likewise, nothing within it could leave without his consent.
For all these years, the Lotus had guarded his spirit sea as though it was protecting its own charge. Its divine presence permeated every corner, forming an absolute barrier that even beings more powerful than him would have struggled to breach.
Yet now, a seemingly unassuming key had bypassed that protection entirely and entered his spirit sea without his permission.
Not only that. Adam had thoroughly scanned the room with his senses several times, taking note of each and every item inside. Yet, only when he accepted that life could move forward without rewarding him for overcoming an ordeal did the key seemingly appear out of nowhere.
Adam was highly suspicious.
He prided himself on having exceptionally sharp senses, while his eyes could see through most, if not all, forms of deceit and illusion. Yet, somehow, he had failed to notice the key.
And then, when he imbued it with a wisp of mana, the impossible had happened.
Adam’s expression grew utterly solemn. He took a deep breath, then sent his consciousness into his spirit sea.
The moment he arrived, a vast and tranquil scene unfolded before him. The sky above was clear and boundless, without a single cloud marring its endless expanse. Beneath it, the waters of the spirit sea stretched toward the horizon, their gentle waves rolling softly beneath a calm breeze.
The boundaries of his spirit sea had expanded once again after his recent advancement. Its vastness, its volume, and the sheer power contained within it had already reached a level comparable to that of a Transcendent Magus.
Yet Adam’s attention was not on any of that. His gaze was fixed upon the center of his spirit sea. There, suspended in the air, was the key. It hovered silently above the tranquil waters, slowly rotating in place as though it had been there all along.
Adam stared at it without moving, his expression dark. For some reason, seeing the key floating in the very center of his spirit sea made the situation feel even more unnatural.
He slowly lowered his gaze. His eyes pierced through the deep and profound depths of his spirit sea before finally settling upon the beautiful white flower submerged beneath the tranquil waters.
The Eternal Soul Lotus remained as serene as ever.
Even now, he could faintly sense the divine artifact releasing subtle pulses of mysterious energy. Each pulse spread through the depths of his spirit sea, gently nourishing and purifying his soul.
Adam stared at it for a long while.
A single thought emerged.
Why?
Why had the Lotus not stopped the key from trespassing into its domain?
More importantly, why was it doing nothing about it now?
The key was hovering in the very center of his spirit sea, practically within the Lotus’s territory. Yet the divine artifact showed no reaction whatsoever. There was no surge of divine energy. No suppression. No rejection. Nothing.
It was as though the Lotus did not even consider the key’s presence to be a problem.
Adam’s brows slowly furrowed.
Could it be that the Lotus doesn’t see it as a threat?
That only made him more cautious.
The Eternal Soul Lotus had protected his spirit sea for as long as he could remember. Its power was beyond his current understanding, and despite all the years he had spent studying it, there were still countless mysteries surrounding the artifact.
It was an artifact that was even more powerful and mysterious than the Faceless Mask. After all, Adam had been able to divine the origins of the latter, but failed to do so for the former.
If even the Lotus was completely unbothered by the key’s presence... then perhaps the key was not trespassing at all? Perhaps, in some way that he had yet to understand, it had been allowed to enter.
But then again, the question arose.
Why?
Being the cautious person that he truly was, Adam immediately performed a divination within his spirit sea — the domain of the Eternal Soul Lotus, and the place where he was certain his divination magic would be strengthened to its greatest extent.
Will this key bring me any harm, directly or indirectly?
He repeated the question several times, carefully examining the fluctuations of fate and the subtle signs revealed through his divination.
Eventually, a revelation emerged.
No.
Adam’s frown deepened.
That answer only made the key more mysterious.
He continued with another question.
What is the origin of this key?
Again, he repeated the question several times, until he fell into a sort of trance. This time, the revelation did not come as a simple answer.
Instead, a vision suddenly unfolded before his mind’s eye.
Adam found himself standing within the vast void of space. There was no sound. No light. No sensation of movement.
And then, before him, a giant blue planet slowly emerged from the darkness. Most of its surface was covered in vast oceans, their blue expanse stretching across the globe.
But what immediately caught his attention was the enormous landmass dominating one side of the planet.
A supercontinent.
Adam stared at it with narrowed eyes.
The vision lasted for only a brief moment before abruptly disappearing. His consciousness returned to his spirit sea. Silence descended once more.
Adam remained motionless, his mind processing what he had just witnessed as he absentmindedly twirled the key between his fingers.
He already knew that planet. There was no mistaking it.
His eyes slowly narrowed and he murmured:
"Myrrandor."
The revelation was as vague as it was specific.
The key’s origin was undoubtedly Myrrandor.
But how was it connected to this world? Why had it appeared here, in the abandoned quarters of the Sun Temple? And how had it managed to enter his spirit sea? Why hadn’t the Lotus prevented it from entering?
None of those questions had been answered. The revelation had merely shown him the destination, not the story behind it.
Adam’s gaze settled upon the key in his hand.
The more I learn about this thing, the more mysterious it becomes.
He took another breath and threw the key into the air. It did not plunge into the waters below. Instead, it hovered gently in the air, rotating without a care in the world.
Watching that, Adam sighed helplessly.
At least, I’ve confirmed that it won’t bring me any trouble, he thought.
The next moment, he disappeared from his spirit sea.
The mysterious key kept rotating in midair, silently awaiting the day it would finally open the doors to the realm that countless powerful beings of Myrrandor would wage wars to enter.
