Chapter 2142: Prisoner H34J085

The interior was dimly lit.

Pale lights embedded in the black walls illuminated the corridors, casting long shadows across the floor. There were no windows, no signs, no visible landmarks to help visitors orient themselves. And for good reason.

The moment Adam stepped inside, he realized that Fortune’s End was no ordinary prison. The walls were moving. A corridor that had stretched straight ahead only moments ago suddenly narrowed as the walls slid toward one another. Further away, a section of the floor rose, forming a steep incline before connecting to another passage.

Then the ground beneath Adam’s feet shifted. He instinctively steadied himself as the entire platform rotated, carrying them toward a different corridor. Luca also came to a wary halt. Only the pink-haired man seemed like he was taking a walk in the park.

Luca glanced around as the floor finally stopped moving. His expression was solemn as he asked, "Just what kind of place is this?"

The pink-haired man smiled at him. "It’s where your fortune comes to an end, Paladin. This is a place with no escape."

As they proceeded, Adam witnessed the prison’s ever-changing landscape firsthand.

Corridors rose and fell. Walls slid into place, sealing passages that had been open moments earlier. Floors shifted and rotated, connecting distant sections of the prison while separating others.

Entire staircases disappeared into the walls, only to emerge somewhere else. A passage they had just traversed could lead to an entirely different section if they attempted to retrace their steps.

This was an ever-moving labyrinth. And it was impossible to escape.

"Why the sudden interest in Prisoner H34J085, Paladin Claudius?" the pink-haired man asked curiously.

"Are you referring to Leto Morgan?" Luca asked.

"Yes."

Luca glanced at Adam and replied, "I have no interest in that man. My friend does."

And for the first time, the pink-haired man turned to look at Adam. This time, he actually saw him.

"Magus Adam Constantine," he said. "Otherworlder from the Outer Universe. Tron, was it?"

"Yes," Adam replied succinctly.

He wasn’t surprised that the man knew of his background.

During his training with Hannibal, Adam had informed him about his anomalous entrance to Myrrandor. The man had pulled some strings and helped him update his information with the planetary defense administrators in Carina.

After all, having no information would have made Adam look very suspicious. Even Hannibal had no explanation as to how he had randomly been teleported into the middle of the Sea of Storms. It could only be considered an outlier.

"So why the sudden interest?" the pink-haired man asked. "So many people have come to visit him in these past few years. It’s almost as if he’s aware of the location of some treasure."

Adam’s heart turned cold.

Could people from the Night Guild have already interrogated Morgan? he thought grimly.

After all, the Night Guild had been actively handing out missions to anyone who would accept them. There was a mysterious item they needed to find, and the only clue to said item was Leto Morgan.

"What’s the matter?" The man’s eyes narrowed. "Cat got your tongue?"

Luca also cast a strange look at Adam. He was told that this was related to Valerian. But now he came to learn there might be a treasure involved. He couldn’t help but wonder if Adam had lied to him. After all, he was aware of the man’s avaricious nature.

Sensing Luca’s gaze, Adam cursed inwardly.

"I don’t know anything about a treasure," Adam replied smoothly. "I’m here for something else. I believe Leto Morgan might know something about my brother’s kidnapping."

"But you don’t have a brother," the pink-haired man said matter-of-factly.

Adam grew irritated and made sure to show it in his tone. "First you make me wait for almost half a year. Then you ask me all these questions. It’s almost as if you wish to offend me."

"Offend you?" The pink-haired man turned to Adam with an amused smile. "Boy, I couldn’t care less about your feelings. I just want to know the truth. Why are you here?"

"Then I couldn’t care less about your questions." Adam’s eyes narrowed. "Either take me to the prisoner or show me out. Don’t go around putting your nose in other people’s business."

The pink-haired man smiled coldly. "Feisty little creature, aren’t you?"

Adam was about to reply, but Luca beat him to it.

"Are we not welcome here?" His voice was heavy and dignified.

The coldness vanished from the pink-haired man’s face almost immediately. "Nothing like that, Paladin," he said with a laugh. He turned to look at Adam and sneered, "I was just teasing the bumpkin."

"I would request you to show my friend the same respect you have shown me," Luca said.

The pink-haired man feigned surprise, covering his mouth with a hand. "He is your friend? My, my. I thought he was your servant. Please do accept my humble apology."

"Final warning." Luca’s words turned cold.

"Yes. Yes. I only jest, Paladin." The pink-haired man waved his hand dismissively.

He smoothly changed the subject, gesturing to the walls and floor.

"This is one of the many reasons Fortune’s End has never been breached," he said. "The prison is designed to ensure that no prisoner can simply memorize the route and find their way out."

He pointed toward a wall that had just slid shut behind them. "Even if someone manages to escape their cell, they must still find their way through the prison itself."

The pink-haired man gave them a brief tour of the prison. Adam and Luca did not see any guards or even any staff on their way. They did, however, notice countless conspicuous gazes following them.

After around thirty minutes in the labyrinth, the pink-haired man stopped in front of a stone door.

"The prisoner was moved to this visitation room for your convenience," he said with a chuckle.

"Trust me, you do not wish to visit his prison cell. You have only ten minutes with him. Please note, you will be constantly under surveillance. Ten minutes. No more. I shall be waiting here for you."

He then pressed a few points around the door and wove a set of hand seals, after which an invisible barrier shimmered out of existence. Then he turned the handle and opened the door.

Adam and Luca stepped inside. It was a small room. A thick glass wall ran along its center, dividing the room in two.

On the other side was a figure wearing a white jumpsuit. He wore thick manacles on his wrists and ankles. These weren’t ordinary shackles. They prevented the wearer from wielding mana.

This man on the other side of the glass wall was but a shadow of his former glorious self.

Prisoner H34J085.

Famous author and explorer.

Leto Morgan.
