This place was quite elaborate. I mean, there was more of an unexpected scariness to it than I had anticipated, and Hina-chan, who was bad with scary things, was completely frightened, to the point that she was clinging to my arm.

Even so, she never said anything like Lets give up or I cant go any further. If anything, even when she was frightened, she seemed to be enjoying herself.

[Are you okay, Hina-chan?]

[Its scary B- But, Im also curious about what its going to be like further ahead.]

[Well, yeah. It does seem pretty elaborate, so I am curious about how its going to attack us next.]

[Yes Id prefer it if they kept the startling stuff to a minimum though]

Despite repeatedly saying how scary it was, shes got the same state of mind as those watching a horror movie all the way to the end or making it through a haunted house while screaming There was no doubt that she was scared, but she seemed to have accepted even things like being startled from unexpected places as part of the appeal of horror attractions.

Even though Hina-chan was trembling with fear while clinging to my arm, she would move along with me whenever I moved, so we continued through the maze together And, as expected, after walking for a little while, we reached a fork in the path.

[A fork in the path.]

[This place doesnt have a time limit, and its not like we absolutely have to choose the right path but I feel like there might be an attack if we reach a dead end.]

[R- Right. Since they come from inside the mirrors, I dont think theyd come from behind us, but if its a dead end, there would be three mirrors, one in front and one on either side.]

[Unn. But well, theres no point in thinking about it too much. Which way do you want to go? You can choose, Hina-chan.]

If I chose randomly, I would probably end up taking the correct path, and that would cut the fun of the maze in half. In that case, I decided to let Hina-chan choose the path.

After looking thoughtful for a moment, Hina-chan pointed toward the path on the right, so we proceeded that way.

[It feels like theres been a bit of a gap since the last one appeared.]

[I- I wonder when itll come? M- Maybe something has already happened without us noticing]

That certainly wasnt impossible. The previous one had been an obvious anomaly, but there was a possibility that a smaller anomaly had appeared.

For example, the mirror monster we could see in the depths of the mirror, about the size of a tiny bean, might be gradually getting closer as we progressed, or something like that could also appear Just as I had that thought, I held the lantern up to the mirror on the left and pushed a stone in. Immediately afterward, we heard the mirror monster let out a scream.

[Eh? W- Was it there just now?]

[Unn. I dont know how long it had been there, but the color of the clothes on my reflection in the left mirror had started looking kind of blue.]

[I- I didnt notice it at all.]

[Maybe it has been changing gradually? It might have started turning a little bluer from black, and then once it had completely changed to blue, it would attack us.]

Just as Hina-chan hadnt noticed, this one had been quite difficult, or rather I didnt even know at what point the color had changed.

However, when I looked at the mirror on the left, my clothes somehow looked more indigo than black, so I treated that as an anomaly and used the lantern.

[Come to think of it, are most of them cases where theres some kind of change in whats reflected in the mirrors?]

[Its easier to notice when something other than us is reflected in the mirror, so I feel like there have been a lot of cases like that. K- Kaito-senpai, Im counting on you! Im too scared to really look closely at the mirrors I- Itd be scary if the faces in the mirror suddenly turned my way or somethingS- So, please dont expect too much from me as far as being useful.]

[Its okay. Its more than enough if you tell me whenever you happen to notice something. Ill keep a close eye on things, so Ill do my best to protect you properly, Hina-chan.]

I knew Hina-chan was absolutely terrified, so even though she said not to expect her to be useful in combat, I was grateful that she still paid some attention to the mirrors and cooperated.

I was fairly fine with the scary stuff, aside from the sudden-jump-scare type and while part of me wanted to look good in front of my cute kouhai who was relying on me, I answered as reassuringly and dependably as I could.

[K- Kaito-senpai One hundred points. That was a perfect response. You really are quite the lady-killer.]

[I cant tell whether youre complimenting me or insulting me But in a situation like this, saying Ill definitely protect you would be worth a hundred points, wouldnt it?]

[Hmmm, I wonder? Personally, rather than someone confidently saying something without any basis to back it up, I prefer it when they say something like theyll do their best within the limits of what they can actually accomplish. Ah, but I guess it also depends on how much you trust the other person, doesnt it? If Kaito-senpai said youd definitely protect me, I could honestly believe you I guess thats what they call trust and track record? Kaito-senpai protected me when I was attacked by a Black Bear too]

[Ahaha, though in reality, I couldnt do anything and just got beaten up.]

[But Kaito-senpai back then to me, you were the coolest person in the world.]

Perhaps Hina-chans bashful smile was dazzling, or perhaps I was simply embarrassed, but I gave an awkward chuckle while turning my face slightly away.

Serious-senpai : [Oi, mirror monster! What are you doing? Attack these two while theyre flirting!!!]

? ? ? : [Wouldnt that just make them flirt even more?]

Serious-senpai : [So either way, its an out huh D*mn it! Actually, now that I think about it, including everything up to this point, Hinas opinion of Kaito ever since the Rigforeshia incident has basically been consistently reliable and cool I knew that already, but this kouhai really does have a pretty high level of affection for him]
