Although there was a bit of a problem with Theta losing consciousness, we safely made it through the Wraith-type room as well. The Wraiths put on something like a dance show. It was a different kind of performance from the skeletons comical musical, featuring elegant, classical-style dancing, but the sight of the Wraiths dancing while emitting a faint glow was incredibly ethereal and beautiful.

Well, judging from the descriptions, quite a few Wraith-type monsters seem to be dangerous, so I doubt they would actually behave like that in the real world

We also encountered Ghosts, another type of Astral-type Undead. Apparently, they possess high intelligence, can use magic, and are classified as Demons. There are even towns inhabited by Ghosts in the Demon Realm.

Theyre literally ghost towns, though apparently they arent lively unless you visit at night, since all the residents are nocturnal. Still, it seems you can visit them as a tourist, so Id like to go there someday if I get the chance.

In any case, after escaping the Wraith room, Theta finally regained her composure. She apologized and thanked me before climbing down from my back and returning to Etas side.

Seeing Theta, who usually gave off a rather cool impression, frightened of Wraiths was a refreshing glimpse of a new side of her. However, since encountering Wraiths had been a traumatic experience for her, I couldnt exactly say it was a good thing.

Perhaps Hina-chan had finally given up on resisting, because she now seemed to have settled into clinging to my arm as her default position. She had remained that way even after we left the initial scary zone.

As for Aoi-chan, perhaps her embarrassment still outweighed her fear, because she continued to hold my wrist as though pinching it between her fingers. Still, the appearance of the Wraiths must have frightened her, as I felt she was standing a little closer to me than before.

And so, the fourth room we eventually reached was another place that looked exactly like what you would expect.

[Hyiih! T- Theyre going to move. These things are definitely going to move, arent they?!]

[T- There are so many of them Its quite an imposing sight.]

It was only natural for Hina-chan and Aoi-chan to react as though they were overwhelmed. The moment we entered the fourth room, the first thing that caught our eyes was the sheer number of dolls packed tightly together all around us.

Some looked like bisque dolls, others resembled tin toys, and there were even things that looked like stuffed animals. It was immediately obvious that these were some kind of Undead, something like Living Dolls.

Once we had walked a little farther inside and the entrance closed, all the dolls around us began moving their mouths, hands, and other body parts in unison, accompanied by a clattering sound.

[Hyaaaah!? S- See?! I told you this would happen! Why did it have to turn out like this?!]

[I- I have to admit, this is a little scary]

Feeling the warmth of my kouhais as they clung tightly to my arms, I turned my gaze toward the moving dolls. There were so many of them that even their simple clattering movements created an extraordinary sense of eeriness and intimidation.

Still, this time it wasnt an ambush. Wed more or less expected the dolls to move as soon as we entered the room, so perhaps the surprise factor wasnt as great. The creepy atmosphere was still intense though

Living Dolls Although primarily classified as monsters, they are among the few creatures categorized as monsters not recommended for extermination, owing to their extremely low threat level.

[Ah, right! Theres a category of monsters like that. Basically, youre not supposed to attack them unless they actually try to attack you.]

After reading the description, I came across a word that caught my attention, so I tilted my head in puzzlement. Aoi-chan, who was standing beside me, explained it.

I see. So the idea is that monsters that are friendly toward Humans, or something along those lines, shouldnt be exterminated

They rarely manifest naturally and are generally created through necromancy, meaning that, much like Golems, they have a creator. Some Living Dolls wander about after being abandoned by their creators or after their creators have died, so you may occasionally encounter them outside of towns. If you find such a Living Doll, reporting its presence or taking it into protective custody is recommended.

A- Ahhh, I see So theyre classified in the same category as Golems. Come to think of it, Rachel-san, who is a Living Doll herself, was created by Sechs-san. In that case, I can understand why they arent recommended for extermination. It must be because accidentally destroying someones Living Doll could lead to trouble.

Their abilities vary greatly depending on their creators skill, but they are generally intelligent and friendly by nature. One difference between them and Golems is that they possess an artificial soul, allowing them to act independently. They can also absorb magic power from the air, meaning they require almost no magic power supplied by their caster. This might make them sound exceptionally capable, but their abilities are considerably inferior to those of Golems, and unless they are created by an exceptionally skilled caster, they generally lack the performance necessary to fight effectively.

Rachel-san, a Peerage Holder, is apparently the finest creation Sechs-san has ever made. When I asked Sechs-san about her before, he told me that her existence was the result of several miracles coinciding, and that he would probably never be able to create another Living Doll with comparable abilities, making her an exceptionally rare case.

However, they are dexterous, particularly with their hands, and can perform household chores if taught how. As a result, they are quite popular as pets, and some people even purchase them from necromancers for that purpose. Some inns also keep them as nighttime cleaning staff. When keeping one, be aware that they are generally nocturnal unless their caster has specifically configured them otherwise. They do not require food, but they do need to be played with regularly. If you neglect to play with them for too long, they will become lonely and stand beside their owners pillow, staring at them as if demanding attention. Be sure to play with them properly to prevent this from happening.

No, thats actually pretty scary!? Having a Living Doll stand beside your pillow and stare at you while youre sleeping sounds like something straight out of a horror movie.

Well, I suppose that wouldnt happen if you made sure to play with it regularly

[I see. So, if we find a doll in an inn while traveling somewhere for a quest, it might start moving around at night]

Serious-senpai : [Western-style doll versions of those might be scary, but if there are also plushie-like ones, I can see how they might be popular as pets probably? Still, since theyre nocturnal, keeping one sounds like it would be pretty difficult]
