Chapter 2660: Re: Demon Realm Amusement Park

The presentation was truly incredible, and even the smells were realistic. However, I had already expected it to be a splatter-horror attraction from the warning posted before entering, so I had prepared myself to some extent.

After that, we encountered several more splatter and grotesque scenes. Hina-chan and Aoi-chan were extremely frightened, but I continued onward without any problems, comforting them along the way.

Thereupon, we came across something resembling an entrance, beyond which nothing could be seen. It seemed that passing through it would take us to the next section. So we went through but what awaited us was darkness so complete that we couldnt see even one meter ahead.

[Eh? W- What is this!? I- I- I- Its completely dark!? K- Kaito-senpai, Aoi-senpai, y- youre both here, right!?]

[Its okay. Were right here. But we cant move forward like this]

[Does this mean something is about to happen?]

I answered Hina-chan, who asked anxiously, but it was so dark that I couldnt even see the two of them, who should have been right beside me. This didnt feel like ordinary natural darkness.

I could tell they were there from the sensation of them clinging to me, so perhaps staying close like this had been the right choice after all.

However, we couldnt proceed in this darkness. As I wondered what we should do I heard a sound resembling a series of rapping noises.

[Eek! W- What was that?]

[Rapping sounds As I thought, something seemed to be starting.]

At first, they were simple rapping noises, but they gradually grew more intense. Before long an eerie, hoarse voice could be heard.

This is the darkness that reflects fear It reveals that which you fear most.

The thing I feared most? What was about to happen? As I wondered that something began to emerge from a part of the darkness ahead of me. The moment I laid eyes on it a shiver ran through my entire body, making my hair stand on end.

I desperately held back the scream that nearly escaped my lips, but a numbing shudder ran down my back, and I felt my legs trembling uncontrollably.

Impossible W- Why? C- Could this be Is it reading my memories and consciousness, then projecting the thing I fear most?

[Hyaaaaaaa! Abababa! D- D- Dont come any closerrrrr!!]

[Nooooo! W- Why is something like this Eeeek!]

I could hear Hina-chan and Aoi-chan screaming. That meant they were each seeing something different, just as I suspected. I couldnt imagine Hina-chan and Aoi-chan screaming after seeing the same thing I was looking at.

An illusion created by Illusion Magic, these werent real I knew that. I knew that, but the fear engraved in my heart wouldnt disappear. It was so terrifying that even breathing had become difficult.

Floating before my eyes, even darker than the surrounding darkness, was a sphere of black so impossibly deep that it seemed capable of swallowing everything.

I remembered. That fear, that despair That thing was one of Kuros greatest failures One of the Five Despairs, the origin and the pinnacle.

It was the original despair that had forcibly taught me that something called Edible Hell existed in this world, and made me experience, for the first time in my life, the sensation of writhing around on the floor, not because something was poisonous or anything of the sort, but simply because it tasted unbelievably, purely, and utterly disgusting.

A substance that should never have existed in this world. A black spot that swallowed everything Baby Castella Dark Matter!?

D*mn it, dont let it fool you! That thing has been sealed deep inside my Magic Box, with my firm resolve never to let it out again. Theres no way it could appear before me once more!

My body was trembling because of the trauma engraved in my heart Something I could overcome! Besides, my two kouhais were also frightened after seeing something terrifying. I had to stay strong for their sake I wouldnt lose!!!

[Both of you! Its okay! Its just an illusion created by Illusion Magic! No matter how terrifying it looks, its only something were seeing! It cant actually do anything to us!!!]

[K- Kaito-senpai]

I was frightened myself, but even so, I pulled the two of them tightly against me and spoke encouragingly. They were probably seeing the most terrifying things they had ever encountered in their lives too.

It was a terrifying attraction that could only be described as one that brought your traumas to life But even so, these were nothing more than illusions.

[This wont go on forever, and were not alone! Im sure everything will be okay!]

[Y- Yes!]

[Im glad that Kaito-san is here with us.]

I felt the two of them cling tightly to me, their bodies trembling. After a little while the despair that had appeared before our eyes vanished, and the surroundings grew bright again.

We were in a fairly spacious room, and an exit leading to the next area stood in front of us.

[I- It looks like its over.]

[Fuu Fuuu T- That was completely unfair!]

[So, in other words, it was something like a manifestation of our traumas I suppose thats the sort of thing only magic could accomplish, but honestly, it was genuinely terrifying.]

It seemed that the gimmick in this section had finally ended, and I let out a relieved sigh.

[Aoi-senpai, what did you see?]

[A ghost from a horror show I accidentally watched when I was little. It was the scariest moment of my entire life, and Id been trying not to remember it What about you, Hina-chan?]

[A Black Bear.]

[Ahh, the one from the Sacred Tree Festival That makes sense. I guess it shows us the scariest thing weve ever encountered in our lives.]

Just as Aoi-chan said, it made sense that Hina-chan had seen the Black Bear. After all, that had been the first time in Hina-chans life that shed faced a genuine threat to her life. It wouldnt be surprising if the experience had left her traumatized.

[That said, it didnt actually seem like it was going to attack us. It was just there, so I suppose they showed us some consideration.]

[Rather than completely recreating our traumas, it seems more like they simply make scary things appear]

I see. Since the thing Id seen hadnt moved in the first place, I hadnt realized it, but rather than recreating our traumatic experiences, they simply made the scariest things appear, just as the voice had said. They didnt make them move or anything.

[By the way, Kaito-senpai, what did you see?]

[Baby castellas.]

[ [ Unn? ] ]

My two kouhais tilted their heads, looking utterly bewildered by my answer, as if they couldnt understand what I meant at all.

? ? ? : [By the way, just to clarify, when we say it projects your traumas, it only applies to relatively mild traumas. It doesnt target genuine, severe traumas that could drive someone insane, make them scream and cry uncontrollably, or involve the death of someone close to them. Hina-sans experience with the Black Bear was frightening, but its something shes now able to look back on as a memory, so it was eligible to be projected.]

Serious-senpai : [More importantly, Kaito was afraid of baby castella!?]

? ? ? : [Im actually somewhat traumatized by that myself. Baby castellas that deal fixed damage But well, it didnt happen in this main story, but over in the gaiden, there was someone who ate up and disposed of all thedespair-inducing baby castellas that had been left forgotten in Kaito-sans Magic Box, saying they were tasty.]

Serious-senpai : [What kind of monster is that?]

T/N: LazyCat wont be around for a couple of days for IRL stuff, not sure when Ill be back exactly, but should be settled around 3-4 days. Not sure.
